To me, Dimash's singing is so immensely pleasing, heart-rending, soulful that I just enjoy it and let the rivulets of tears roll down my cheeks. I'm a linguist, and I pay some attention to Dimash's pronunciation of the Russian language (which is not his native language). That, too, is masterful. The way he pronounces the liquid consonants (which do not exist in English) is exemplary. -- Mr. Igor Krutoy, the most celebrated Russian composer of contemporary music, (who has taken Dimash under his wings; he and Dimash have produced "The Love of Tired Swans, "Mlle Hyde" and "Ascolta la voce" so far) said about Dimash (a few days ago): "No one is greater than Dimash." Mr. Krutoy, in his white shirt, in the front row, was the first to jump up and applaud once Dimash had concluded this Sochi performance of "Sinful Passion" and was about to be drowned under the flowers offered by the grateful Russian audience. It's always flattering to hear that our favourite singer is awesome, but from a vocal teacher I expect a detailed analysis, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Another wonderful thing about Dimash - he made so many of us interested in learning about vocals! I always thought myself a hopeless singer, and here I am, listening what's healthy, what's not, and how to improve :)
@@DrMarcReynolds You're welcome :) I think I got the feeling of "too much" from your first pause. You said Dimash switched from pop to oparatic. Then started explaining difference between an oparatic sound vs a pop sound in terms of vibrato, and then talked about formants which was a word I'm unfamiliar with. Then you mentioned overtone series in relation to formants. That's a lot of technical information conveyed rather quickly. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think most people would need prior knowledge to understand what you're saying here thus my 'most viewers' comment. Using vocal examples, which you started doing more towards the end of the video, would most likely have made it easier to understand. For me at least! :) When it comes to technical terms, I think they're important in achieving a level of understanding, as well as making analysis. That however brings the question: Is your channel for the broad audience/laymen who only barely grasp such terms, and would have a need to have them explained often with practical examples, or do you want to mostly appeal to people already into voice teaching or coaching? Since you're a director I'm sure you're well-aware but I think considering who your audience is and at what level you want to convey is important. I watched this ua-cam.com/video/eRkgK4jfi6M/v-deo.html video on explaining musical harmony on 5 levels which I think is relevant. An example of a youtube channel where the creator holds nothing back is 8-bit music theory ( ua-cam.com/channels/eZLO2VgbZHeDcongKzzfOw.html ). I think it's great he only briefly explains the music theory concepts, and instead focuses on analysis with every tool he has.
A performer who makes other people want to sing too ... that says something wonderful about a performer. For the record - no voice is hopeless if that person is willing to work towards improvement. Everyone has a beautiful voice - it is harder to unlock some more than others but I have yet to find one that isn’t beautiful once it’s set free.
The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental Arab technique, is a funeral lament, paying homage to the dead vocalist: Brilliant! The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band's name is A'Studio. The dead singer left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. The lyrics are by the poet Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebyev, who is the keyboardist with long hair, which we see in the video accompanying Dimash.

Hi Professor Reynolds. Thank you so much for your in-depth analysis and reaction on Dimash’s (Sinful Passion) performance. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was worth the wait. Dimash is truly a unique one of a kind singer/artist/performer. I’m looking forward to more reactions from you (on Dimash, of course). Please do a reaction on Love of Tired Swan.
Thank you for your reaction and the lesson you gave🙏🙏🙏 I'm here after watching Sam and You reacting to Dimash and I suggested in the comment to ask for your reaction of this song,so I really thank you🙏 I agree with what you said about Dimash, after watching him for the first time, what make me want to hear more is his way to deliver the song, I cried even I didn't know the meaning. Dimash makes me love every songs he sings. I really admire that👍💜
Dimash is a true musical master. He sings in 10 different languages and plays 7 musical instruments. I believe his mom is an opera/ pop singer and his dad is a pop singer. I’ve heard him hit a D8. He’s heaven sent.
Someone, who knows Dimash and his family, said, he´s a nerd when it comes to perfecting his abilities. It´s meant in a positive, friendly way. We know how much work´s behind, to sing like he does. By the way, I´m a new subscriber and I admire your expertise and analysis.
This is the best explanation of Dimash singing technique and the most professional and I have seen all of them during two years..Dimash is a cross over came from bel canto He is able to do a "Messa di Voce" in the 6 th octave!!!!!! He brings a new style that he calls neo-classical
I really enjoy reactions to Dimash, and I especially like it when musical people react because the commentary is educational and the approval more informed. Thank you! Heh heh it's a measure of my confidence in Dimash that I am posting this about 20 seconds into the performance ;) DKIFC/USA
But i have to point out that you've missed the 22 seconds vocal gymnastic he did at the end, just one word; it is delicious, thank you again for being there and being you

Thank you for the reaction. You still do not know Dimash. Dimash creates a new genre in music. He mixes pop, rock, opera, rap, hip hop and r&b music, in his own unique way. His universality and versatility makes him a favorite to fans of any style of music. He has the vocal ability to sing like whoever he wants, and that's his advantage when he sings rock. His super-genius essence creates such a covers of legendary songs that are unthinkable to be accept until you hear Dimash's covers. React all his performances please! In youtube you can find all of his songs with an English subtitles. You will be blown away by his other performances...... SOS Adagio. Show must go on. Confessa + Diva dance. Hello. Sinful passion. Daybreak. Opera 2. And many, many more... Enjoy!
Wonderful and informative I really don’t want to use reaction. It was like sitting in a master class. I really enjoyed your insights. I feel we are starting to see the beginnings of Dimash as an artist over the past year. At the worlds best he is giving them what they asked him fo by naming him the 6 octave man. Dimash never answers how wide his range is. He says it is not important. In saying that I feel since the singer he has been working to develop his lower areas. Also perhaps the more middle sounds. There are nuances that I hadn’t heard before that are more regular now. He is also adding in more folk and other inspirations from across the globe into his songs. I am truly looking forward to hearing him 5 or 10 years down the road. I remember hearing Lena Horne on cassette then seeing her live in concert. The cassette was great but good lord in concert, she was just astounding to me. Dimash tends to astound me in tape versions as I have only heard him through the internet. I can only imagine what seeing him live might be like. I was fortunate growing up I got to hear a wide variety of music, living in 7 countries gave me even more to listen to and appreciate. 😊
Many greetings from the Czech Republic Sir. Thanks a lot for Your professional comments to Dimash's performance. I'm really happy that the professional as you are, has known his gift. I would like to say very important thing for me. He's not only vocal genius, first he is very nice person who can makes people better and happier. He's awesome personality who is dedicated to make miracles all over the world. I'm really looking forward to this.
Thank you for your reaction, I really admire the amount of detail and depth you go into - it's extremely unique for a vocal coach on UA-cam to be so vocal about the techniques used and how they alter the performance. It's taught me so much from just one video already, I really appreciate it!
Now I understand why Dimash has such an overwhelming brain entrainment effect, an endless source of endorphins, dopamine, oxytocin, adrenaline, an instant heart chakra opener 💙💜💕🧡💚💞🙏 Music schools, music business should take into account the healing effect of Dimash special music vocal technics and also musical arrangement that turns a god song into a completely awesome song ( Sinful passion, The love of tired swans, Adagio, Hello, All by my self, SOS, and the list is will be endless in time).

Since I watch and listen to Dimash voice his renditions, I have learn alot about how to sing.. Then, yes... I feel like singing too although my voice is not that good.. And, most of all you teach me how to produce such a voice like Dimash does. Thank you 🙏😘
That would be interesting to really see. Im thinking that if they were longer he would have shorter vocal chords that would let them hit the high notes (think of children and how their vocal chords are smaller and thus make a higher pitch naturally). The reason I don't discount the idea that they are longer though is that his lower range sound very baritone like... it has a richness we don't usually hear in higher voices. Interestingly enough often baritone's find that they have a higher extension up top that lets them sing countertenor type literature. If it was true that they were longer that might answer another listeners question about his highest notes and whether or not the are whistle tone or falsetto. We gotta get someone to scope those vocal chords and measure so we can figure out what is going on there :)
I wonder how he determined that. Did he really have them scoped I wonder? If so it would be fascinating to know how much different they are than normal. How much is the god given instrument and how much is everything else is always tricky to really identify with any real authority. Especially since the voice is not the easiest thing to study.
There's an interesting video with Dr Ian Howell discussing the countertenor voice. Trying to summarise from memory, there are 4 subsets of what can be considered 'countertenor voice' (and I do class Dimash as a countertenor), which Dr Howell classifies as choral countertenor (can drop to a low range, but tends to top out around d5 in the upper register), Bach countertenor (still retaining lower register but has to have a solid E5), and the Handel countertenor (same as previous but pitch up to G5 at least). There's a fourth category that Dr Howell seems to separate from countertenor, but still places it under the same umbrella, which is 'Sopranist' or male soprano, who is generally someone who lacks in the lower register but is able to sing up into the soprano register to C6 or higher. Out of the first 3 subsets I think most of them could probably get up into the soprano (c6 etc) range with proper training, and that would especially apply to the Handel countertenor types. That is personally where I would place Dimash, as a 'Handel countertenor' (none of these classifications is fixed, as far as I'm aware, so these are theoretical categories used to understand the pitch ranges of countertenors), so he can go into the lower registers but has had the vocal training to move up into soprano register. In terms of vocal chords, my understanding is that Dr Howell (and others) will place sopranists/male sopranos into a sort of highly specialised category, because their voices are due to anatomical anomalies with their vocal chords. Basically their vocal chords don't lengthen and thicken the way a man's would normally, either due to illness, or hormonal issues, so that allows them to sing in a very high range for a male but it means they lose the lower register (or struggle with it at least). Think people like Michael Maniaci, and Radu Marian for examples of male sopranos, in Dimash's case though if his vocal chords are indeed longer than normal then that would indicate his soprano register is something he trained for & is not due to a vocal chord difference.
Dr. Marc Reynolds longer vocal cords are less related to pitch range than thickness and mass of the cords. Length is good because it creates more sound output

When it comes to technical terms, I think they're important in achieving a level of understanding, as well as making analysis.
@@DrMarcReynolds Haha, please talk as much as you can! :)
I loved seeing your reaction. Thanks for choosing Dimash. As a voice teacher his performances are very interesting as you just saw. I'm glad that you are enjoying making your videos. Good sound improvement too.
Although you did miss the long note Dimash held at the end. But still fantastic reaction. I hope you gain many more subscribers. All the best to you. :)
Thank you! ... yeah... bummed I missed that last note. Still have some improvement to make on the sound I think but Im getting there. Thank you for your suggestions from before. They were REALLY helpful!
Done ! Welcome to world Dimash!
Dimash is The Best Singer ever and forever, saludos From Venezuela
Thank you for your very enlightening reaction. I dont really know anything about the nitty gritty part of singing, but I am always in awe at all Dimash performances on stage. he is one of a kind. After watching your video, I am all the more impressed with Dimash.
So far the more I watch the more impressed I am.
So great! Thank you!! Looking forward to your next reaction to Dimash! Plz do more!!!
His vocals are like a paintbrush that paints a Masterpiece with every stroke he makes!!! :) Loved your analysis! Blessings..... :)
Oh woww!! I feel like I'm watching a complete lecture!! I love it!! So many things I have learned just by one video!!
Please2 continue with Dimash! We'd love for more explanations about his technique, posture, placement and everything!
Will be waiting for your next video!! 😆😆
Thanks for watching D8_Squad! Glad you got something from it!
Now that is impressive how you breakdown all these technics with such clarity. I understood everything you said and I am hardly an enthusiastic singer.
Subscribed because I love to learn all these technicalities and specifics details about singing, and you just killed it. Thank you so much.
Thank you Santiago! This comment made my day!
I rarely ask for analysis or reviews from singers but please allow me this exception ua-cam.com/video/Wri8me2dTE8/v-deo.html We would love to listen you breakdown this Dimash breathtaking performance to us in the way you only can do it. Thank you so much!
Love from Uruguay!
Hi Uruguay! 👍
MIBAQS Uruguay 🇺🇾
Wow so technical!!! I don't understand everything, but I am fascinated to know that there is a science to Dimash's technique. It sounds like how a gym coach would describe development of different muscles of the body, except this is an description of how to control vocal chords, which to me seems so alien! Now I am more in awe of Dimash than ever. Thank you so much for this lesson. I hope to hear more from you :)
There's a tv interview with English subtitles where D talks a little bit about the science behind the music which is why I follow Dr Marc's reactions as well, it's just so enlightening. D treats his music like any professional athlete which explains the 3hr daily training
Yes! It's becoming the generation of people with perfect abilities! How lucky that I lived to see this!
That was a wonderful reaction video. I’ve listened to that song numerous times and know all the places where I always feel pulled in emotionally. Now your explanation tells me how Dimash is achieving that effect! A revelation! Fascinating! Thank you.
What I love about your comment here is how you talk about how you feel pulled in. I think that reaction is what every performer should be actively seeking out - finding every way to help their audience feel. Dimash is so cool because he finds so many ways to do it.
Great comments...I am looking forward to see more videos with Dimash...I am always saying, he should be in textbook on how to sing amazingly..
Done! I have had a lot of people ask for a reaction to that. I will do it for next week!
Great... I really enjoy watching you analyse his performances... I wait next your analysis for another Dimash performances...
Dimash- the best voice in the World #1🌎👍🏻
Yay! More Dimash reactions pls! Thanks!
He brings a new style that he calls
neo-classical
Great reaction 👌
Pssssssstt, 👑 Dimash is a vocal Monster 👹🏅

Liked and subscribed. I enjoyed watching your reaction as it makes me more appreciated to Dimash
I really enjoy reactions to Dimash, and I especially like it when musical people react because the commentary is educational and the approval more informed. Thank you! Heh heh it's a measure of my confidence in Dimash that I am posting this about 20 seconds into the performance ;) DKIFC/USA
Love to Dimash from Puerto Rico
But i have to point out that you've missed the 22 seconds vocal gymnastic he did at the end, just one word; it is delicious, thank you again for being there and being you
Yeah.... that's what I get for editing too late at night. That is a brilliant moment! Thanks for pointing it out though. It made me go back and watch it again. I actually had it on my original audio but then accidentally cut it out to early.
It's so cool how effortless he sounds. Based on experience, we know it's not within the common range, but looking at him you wouldn't know it. And then how accurately he's able to do it is just amazing.

I can't get enough of Dimash and can't stop watching this perfection... I cannot believe my eyes and ears.
Thank you for sharing this! It is inspiring to see someone use everything they have to make this world a better place.
We are always love Dimash ❤️🎶👏🗣🤴🏻🌎🙂🎤💁...............
Thank you for your reaction, I really admire the amount of detail and depth you go into - it's extremely unique for a vocal coach on UA-cam to be so vocal about the techniques used and how they alter the performance. It's taught me so much from just one video already, I really appreciate it!
Thank you for the comment and for watching Daisy!
I love your breakdown of what is he is doing vocally and how he is making some of the sounds he is. Great insight and love your enthusiasm!
Thank you!
OMG!! I enjoyed this tremendously! I loved your collab with Sam Johnson and now this video was priceless. Would you please also check Love of Tired Swans Kremlin live performance and Screaming Idol Hits live performance. First one is also a piece of art and mastery and the second one is more at the pop spectrum, I thought maybe you would wanna see how he sings a total pop song. And I won't stop there but will make some other recommendations lol.

Thank you for your very detailed analysis of Dimash's performance, Dr Marc! Love it! Love Dimash
Thank you so much! I loved your reaction! I liked and subscribed to your channel and wait for the next one of Dimash. Dimash is one of a kind! ❤ I loved to hear all the explanations what he did with his voice! Greetings from DKIFC/The Netherlands 🇳🇱👍😃
Thank you, Dr. Marc! I'm so happy to see you reacting to Dimash after your collab with Sam. You go more in depth and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have learned a lot about vocals since I started following Dimash almost 2 years ago. You expanded my knowledge to a better understanding. Thank you!
@ Kay Rush thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you! Your explanation enhanced my (already great) appreciation of Dimash and his crazy talent!
Excellent comments. Thank you. I love Dimash. Please take the opportunity to listen to some of his other songs. They're brilliantly performed. He studied singing from the age of five and is still learning at the age of 26! Thank you again.
Yes more DImash! Love of Tired Swans please!
Will do! Thanks Laura!
If we can just find one person who doesn't pause halfway through that last part so that they can listen to it as a cohestive unit. Uhg. Thanks for taking us up on our suggestion to react to him.
Yes!!!! Lol. That's so frustrating. Well said.
Since I watch and listen to Dimash voice his renditions, I have learn alot about how to sing.. Then, yes... I feel like singing too although my voice is not that good..
And, most of all you teach me how to produce such a voice like Dimash does. Thank you 🙏😘
Your reaction is so good and knowledgeable. Awesome ! Awesome! Awesome!!!

Amazing reaction...DIMASH vocal talent is super rare. He is So special. Dimash defines music's impossibility. He is our WORLD'S BEST!😉🤗🤗👦
Thank you reacting, I love your reaction, I from Thailand I love dimash.
I've seen people say that to Dimash actually has longer vocal cords than other people, or at least other men. That's why he can hit these notes.
@@DrMarcReynolds Dimash told Emre Yucelen (vocal coach) in an interview that he has longer vocal coards than normal..
You are the most intelligent and scientific vocal teacher I've seen on UA-cam so far. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your reaction and vokal analis.

@@DrMarcReynolds it's the alien song from the 5th element, it was made with vocals and synthesizers and defo autotune, it's supposed to be impossible for humans to sing, Dimash does not copy it completely, but close enough and he totally slay it in the Bastau concert (make sure u use the Bastau one, that one was PERFECT!!!)
