Buying used/second heater is not as simple as many may think?
There are many pitfalls you can find yourself in, even if a seller states in black & White "It was working when removed"
What does Working actually mean? I'm sure many people reading this would not be happy if they purchased a car that had a worn out engine that was puffing out lots of smoke or was full of warning lights on the dashboard!
As for the description, "it was working" in the sense it drove was right, just not as good as it was designed to do!
As with the car, heaters are not cheap items! So, you really need to know what you are buying before you part with your cash!
We can all put our heads in a bucket of sand and be blind to comparing like for like in the hope we are going to get a bargain? Sadly, we know from such buyers. They often call us for help and are shocked to find replacement parts cost as much or more than their bargain!
ECU's for example on most models will cost around £300 and if you are lucky to find a second hand one? Then you will join the rest willing to pay over £150!
Noisy blower motors are another very expensive item and beware of ex prison van heaters as they draw a lot of water spray in due to where they are positioned.
Ex BT heaters are also another issue as they where designed for that vehicle and will sooner than later suffer from overheating and eventually blow or lock the ECU out for good!
