  • Full Grown Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Adults? Do they Exist? The electric blue Jack Dempsey is a super finicky fish. I highly advise you feed them a quality food.
    Continued fish tank talk:
Overfiltration is a term used to describe a situation where you have a lot more filtration than would ideally be needed. Basically it makes no difference if you overfilter as long as the flow back into the tank is so fast that the fishes are struggling in the tank. Advantages are it keeps the water really clean and is ideal for any fish that do not handle even a little ammonia in the water.
Sweet build! Been thinking of making a sump for my turtle tank just not sure where to start! So much info and different builds out there! The bacteria won't grow more than it needs to or rather can. Once the supply of nitrogen waste is used up by them it doesn't matter how much more bio filtration you put.
My new Leopard Bush Fish. Funny how many different names they have. They are also known as leopard bushfish, spotted ctenopoma, leopard ctenopoma, spotted climbing perch, spotted leaf fish, spotted cichlid or spotted bushfish.
Steve Bartlett I just rearranged the tank and adding a bunch of new plants. There was a lot of particles floating around as you can see around him too. It’s not on any of them anymore. That's awesome. Are you in the States? I work at the TN Aquarium and we have a tank full of these and I had never seen them before. Now of course I want one.
you should check out Bridges Pets in Snohomish. It’s considerably larger that aquarium coop. Doesn’t have some of the more unique stuff they have but they do have a large selection. That’s where I go for my fish. Since it’s closer. Amanda Leigh Nares Yes, they have a great selection. I got my Angelfish and Red Lizard Catfish from there. They are really overpriced though.
I have a good relationship with Aquarium Coop and Robert can always order things in too. I like to support local small businesses since I am a small business owner too.
I will agree that bridges is overpriced. Not on everything but I find them to be pretty close with a lot of fish stores. I do however think that while their pleco selection game is on point they are way overpriced.
Yep...I lost danios too thought they were too big for my leaf...one of mine is with angels and paridise gourmi's...and the other is with a crawfish ,tiger Barb's and a bala..all get along fine.

I had an issue with baby EBJD's. After tons of research I bought a pair and they didn't make it, I was heart broken and felt like a horrible fish keeper. I gave up on the dream of having such a beautiful fish, I decided that I would not buy anymore because of all the issues. However many months and a lot of tears later, I ended up at my local fish store and she had a juvenile EBJD in all it's glory. He was priced at $75.00, I have never paid that much for any fish.... ever and had no plan to at that moment either. I actually would go to the fish store just to visit him because nobody was buying him. I finally broke and bought him. I held off naming him so I didn't get attached to quickly. He has adapted to his fish friends and now named Helix after the helix nebula. He has so many different hues of blue, tiny specks of black, and when the light hits just right I can see his red tipped fins. He is truly the jewel of my tank. Fast forward 3 years and Helix is about six inches now lives with two african cichlids, two clown loach, one 10inch ghost knife and 10inch monster oscar Jaxxs. They all live in a 75g and I have grown them all out together. So far they have no idea that they can eat each other. I do 2 water changes weekly, and feed frozen and dried food.

I just lost my male electric blue jack Dempsey, he was about 8 to 9 inches long. Absolutely gorgeous he was. But he went so sudden no present disease no injury he was acting odd laying low on the bottom. My wife and I are just shocked

i had 3 adults in my 1000g cichlid pond (i’m in south florida and it has 4 big heaters when needed) and they were fine for 2 years or so but a few months ago my water crashed… it was after “winter” i have no idea what actually happened, but the water was super murky, the nitrates/nitrites were sky high, huge fish kills.. it was horrible. now the water is stabile again but i haven’t seen them. the regular jack dempseys are still there but the EBs are gone

I wonder if isolating them and cranking the heat up would help some times when these fish are sick 🤔 are there any specific medications and symptoms to look out for with these fish?

I bought 2 and they are beautiful about 4 inches now they have grown so quickly. But one of them is acting really shy and hiding a lot. I think he is afraid of my blood parrot and yellow lab. But the other seems to be okay for now. But yes they were like 20$ -25$ and they were so small like an inch when I got them

I’m kind of torn, because wouldn’t it be worse for them to live in a display? Or possibly go to a home where the tank was set up 2 hours earlier? Or into a 10 gallon tank? It is a sad situation but at least I know he/she will be happy in my tank 😞

Have you seen the pink one's? I wonder if it's the same deal with them. But I agree 100% it's a shame that these fish are out there with almost no hope, at one point I was thinking of getting a tank full of them myself

Had mine for 7 years. Went on vacation and the tank turned and I lost them. I only had 2 (started as 4) The first thing that I noticed was you have them in a tank with other fish and alot of them are way too big and aggressive for these fish.I kept mine by themselves in a 55 gal. The dominant one killed the other 2 by chasing them until they died. I don't know why he(or she) left the other alive. My guess is dominant one was a male and the other was a female. They're not hardy and they are not aggressive like regular Dempsey's. I also kept the tank just below brackish. Could have helped stave off bacteria and disease.I fed them tetra min tropical CRISPS and supplemented with bloodworms. What I will call the male was deep brilliant blue while the other was paler. They maxed out at about 5-6 inches. I have other fish in the tank now, but when they pass, I will go back to the EBJD. Other than discus, what has that much color in fresh water.

Keep them by themselves or smaller less aggressive fish it’s simple. I bought 4 lost two
But they are doing good. Only the strong will survive. Do not get bigger size keep them around the same size. One that died was twice as small the other was getting bullied. Have one male one female left so far so good. Also treat them for diseases they have bloodworms with medication

"EBJD" they are sensitive fish, but not as sensitive as the platinum ones . only when kept alone will they grow to adult size in 2 years. i think what you're thinking about are platinum ebjd, not the ebjd, plats are breed by spawning two ebjd. to get a full blue body.
