Hi, My name is Sara. When I was in middle school I watched your channel religiously. I aspired to be as talented at you. Sometimes I still come back to you channel to find old recipes I loved like this one. Fast forward a good 10 year and I've graduated from culinary school and dream of being a pastry chef one day. But I have to give thanks to my roots and the people who aspired me to follow this path. You've impacted my life more than you know!. Thank you
Even I am Korean, I really love your foods! I tried to follow but I failed all the time...;~( but I am trying and trying!! thank u for videos and kindness♡
PS- this recipe can lead to wonky pieces. Specifically, I've had 80%-90% success, but some pieces tend to become crumbly after the fact. The strangest thing. Anyway, did a little research and the trick is to add vinegar to the recipe to offset the post sugar crystalization that occurs. No worries, it doesn't effect the taste because you use only a trace amount of vinegar (4 tbs). Hope this helps :)
I made this with orange koolaid and it came out awesome. I gave a portion to one of my sons to try and he said "tastes like a Starburst!". The whole house loves them. Hubby took them to work and his office loved them too. Going to try with grape tomorrow.
Hey! I'm not stealing this but I am sending it to MamaNieceA who can use it when she is doing home-school projects with her kids. I have sent her lots of your videos!
First... Great video.. This is something I have never seen before.. Looks like fun to make (and eat!! ) Next : In the notes you mention that people are having mixed results as far as texture of candy. Since the temperature of candy needs to be calibrated for elevation that could be the issue. It would be helpful to know "your" elevation so adjustments could be made ... OR if the recipe listed is for sea level. I really love the idea of this and want to give it a try.. Starburst is one of my favorite things in life !! I bet it would be a big hit with the grandchildren as well.... Thanks for the recipe and all the tips.. !! : )
Candy thermometers didn't always exist, there is the old school method of dropping a drip of candy into a glass of cold water and seeing if it holds its shape. If is flattens slightly it is soft ball stage, if it flattens when you lift it out of the water it is medium and if it holds its shape in and out of the water it is hard ball stage, which is where you boil most taffy to. Then there is soft crack and hard crack which most hard candies are taken to.
I wonder if I could replace corn sryup & vanilla with honey. Should work, right? Both corn syrup & honey are naturally high in fructose sugars afterall.
Karl Marx i am actually going to make a video to show you how you make full bowls of taffy how i use to do in prison with just a microwave, sugar, coffee creamer and any flavor you want with drink mixes or even soda
I just finished my 3rd batch today. I made tropical punch, cherry and orange. I omitted the vanilla on the last two batches because it dulled the tanginess of the fruit flavor. I brought the temp to 250° on the 1st, 240° on the 2nd and 245° on the 3rd. 245° was the sweet spot for me. A good candy thermometer is key. I use an analog Taylor candy thermometer. They're about $13 at you local megamart.
Candy makers pull taffy to force air into it. These very small air bubbles are why the candy lightens and becomes more opaque as you pull. They increase the volume of the candy, but more importantly they make it more flexible, less likely to crystallize.
I made these yesterday and I had so many problems. My candy thermometer was messed up and I took it off the heat too soon and it made candy sauce so I put it back on the stove and brought it to the right temperature and the texture was ok (a little soft) once it set. It had a funky flavor though. I was initially going to make it cherry (I made a half recipe) but my Kool-aid was old and I had to throw it away so I was going to make lemon but some of the cherry had already gotten in the mixture so I ended up adding a pack of lemon AND cherry Kool-aid. Big mistake! So, I'm going to try again today and use only 1 packet of Kool-aid and cook it a little longer. Hopefully it'll turn out! Thanks for the recipe!
I was watching you measure the corn syrup and the butter, and all I could think is that you need a measuring cup like I have. I got mine from Pampered Chef, but if you google "Plunger Measuring Cup" you can find similar ones on Amazon. It's great for sticky solids/thick liquids like butter, corn syrup, and peanut butter. Once you try it, you'll wonder how you ever did things like this without it!!
Just made this with my 8 year old. It worked great!!! And was such an easy video to follow, so thank you, Yoyomax. Watermelon Kool Aid is sooo good. Blue Raspberry Lemonade: yuck. Temp got to 253 and made pretty firm taffy. We are studying states of matter and this was an great way to demonstrate phase change!
just a couple questions *what kind of butter? *does it matter of its REALLY equal when it is split? *for the smaller packets,is that a better way than using bigger kool aid packets?
I made some and they turned out amazing! I also used a meat thermometer but mine turned out perfect! Thank you for the recipe I love watching your videos!
This taffy tastes remarkably like Starburst candy. The pulling part is messy but something that is easy to do. It is explained in simple terms and looks like it's very fun to do. I will definately be trying it out soon!!!
I've made these twice before and both times the candy has gotten EXTREMELY hard the next day. I made sure to stretch it until it got slightly hard, I brought it to the correct temperature, and wrapped it in wax paper, but it still hardened both times. Any suggestions on how to prevent this? Thank you :)
I just absolutely love your videos!! You always have fun, tasty candy, cakes, treats of all sorts. Not to mention you always show step by step instructions, clear down to showing how you color cake batter for example!! Love that!! Cant wait to see more fun, easy fun treats to make!! :))
If you used unflavored gelatin, some red food coloring, and added peppermint flavoring instead of kool-aid and vanilla, they could be candy canes or peppermint candy.
OMG I just love ur videos I'm a beginner and watching ur videos I have changed alot thank u so much for the time,.money and effort u put in these videos I would like to ask to see more microwave recipes I think I would be a great section not to many channels have it thanks :)
I've tried making these twice now following your exact directions and each time the candy does not want to become solid at all. It stays liquid. It was fine as like an ice cream topping or liquid candy, but it did not come out like a taffy at all either time. Did anyone else have that problem?
Could you make a keto version by any chance? I have been ALL OVER the internet and there is absolutely nothing available except for gummies and that is no starburst chew. That video would go viral if someone could come up with it!!!
hmmmmm when we made it with my grandma 48 years ago , after a full roiling boil that you cant stir down at med/high heat , she tested the syrup by dropping a small amount in a bit of cold water and as soon as it would become a soft ball and hold its shape for a full 5 seconds it was Soft Ball Stage (change water to fresh COLD water each time you test ) Then its ready to poor on surface and keep folding with spatula and separate, or not , to fold/ knead in flavor .Then start the Table Pull lol we Always ended up in the middle of her kitchen when the taffy had cooled and we were trying to keep it in motion till it had that Taffy Touch ,not sticky with quick touch ,then quickly roll into long tubes , cut , and wrap with wax paper YUMMY!!
When you say we can use the golden kind of syrup as well, do you mean like Lyle’s golden syrup? I just purchased some and am looking for an opportunity to try it!🙏❤️
When I made this I used cherry extract instead of vanilla but I did everything else exactly the same and it has cooled but it is not the texture of yours mine is sort of runny? Like I grab a ball of it and it will slowly sludge out of my hand I'm going to try cooling it longer but it's already been 30 minutes. Please any input appreciated
Have tried making these three times now, all have been a disaster. Maybe I'm getting conversions wrong as we use grams not cups. Would appreciate a converted recipe.
Hello, I am trying to figure out the weight of the yeild of this recipe as close as I can to the gram with the waste that gets left on the spoon, pan etc included. Can you tell me what weight this recipe yeilds please? Thanks!
Only use half a cup of water or else it won't work, she recommends way too much water, messed up my taffy cause of it, had to recook till the water evaporated
Thank you thank you so so so much it was amazing but I made mine more harder than yours so it could be a starburst Crazy thing I did not even use a candy thermometer 😁
Mine is currently hardening, for anyone reading this YOU NEED TO LET IT BOIL AND THICKEN FOR A FEW MINUTES so that it isn't runny . Let it cool, mine thickened into sticky really fast
Hello! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! I am curious to try different flavoring. Such as fruit juices, would it work if I use fresh juice instead of water to boil with the ingredients? Or would the sugar in the fruit juice affect the end result because it may be added sugar. Thanks in advance!

Never considered that elevation could have something to do with it. Thanks!
@PiranhaFisher Of course it matters if you don't have a candy thermometer, you have no way of knowing you have reached the correct temperature.
what if you don't have can you use a normal thermometer
No^ normal thermometers don't reach the tempurture
There is a way!

Whats the taste difference between pulled taffy and not pulled?
Candy makers pull taffy to force air into it. These very small air bubbles are why the candy lightens and becomes more opaque as you pull. They increase the volume of the candy, but more importantly they make it more flexible, less likely to crystallize.
CommanderBalok you didn't answer her question at idiot
Payton Nishitani she did
There's no difference in flavor, just texture. It'll be a lot chewier if you don't pull it and it may be a little grainy in texture.
@@paytonwithpatriotnews5455 idiot.
Yum! A great alternative for those who don't or can't eat gelatin, since that is found in Starburst.

did they differ in taste with the one that wasn't played with and was played with?
Im 10 and im scared its going to be stuck to the pot and im going to have the wrong temp prob shouldn't do it its 10:54 pm😂😂😂
How long do they last? I just made some, very pleased with the results. I got it first try, very good tutorial
Can I use LorAnn flavourings instead of kool aid as i don't currently have kool aid
I plan to do this for cannabis edibles. Will Unsalted butter work with this?
Can I use honey instead of light corn syrup?
I dont know if i cooked it long enuf since i dont have a thermometer, its in the freezer now, what will happen, can i still make it like this
So quick question.. Why 12 of all the numbers?
i tried this but i guess it wasn't at the right temperature because it was very hard. you had to suck on it before chewing.
Isn't this a double boiler?? Someone please answer me ASAP
You can also use powder coffee creamer, kool aid and a tiny bit of water and skip all this bs
I'm guessing the pulled is also "lighter" in the mouth or softer than non pulled?
Mine is currently hardening, for anyone reading this YOU NEED TO LET IT BOIL AND THICKEN FOR A FEW MINUTES so that it isn't runny . Let it cool, mine thickened into sticky really fast
What if instead of a fruit or candy flavoring you used a rum or brandy to flavor the mix?
Do you have to pull it? It looks so good. Im thinking fruit punch.
I live in dublin and I can't get Kol aid drink so can you use something else or what
They're kinda like laffy taffy also because they're soft but laffy taffy is a little bit harder.

How much taffy does one package of koolaid make?
The cherry would be great for Halloween too. It looks like blood while stirring it. XD I WOULD LOVE TO MAKE THIS!!! S cool!
The candy looks good but I wouldn't be able to eat it depending on the stickiness.
I've let it sit for 15 minutes and it still isn't hardened up what should I do?
When I tried this the taffy stayed liquid it did not hardened so I could mold what happened
