I'll never forget seeing The Cowboy Junkies at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh. It rained. Margo said,; "If you stay, we will play". Well, we stayed and they played and it was like nothing I have heard since.
I've been hooked on the Cowboy Junkies for years. What a GREAT band. I often put them up on the BOSE wireless speakers and play my acoustic all night long next to them. LOL.... Plus I always had a crush on Margot :-)
When she looks off into nowhere after the final verse....drums come in....then during the last chorus she's gritting her teeth......she's completely immersed in her performance. It's almost like the song is singing HER......taking her somewhere. Watching her sing this....she almost isn't human for 5 minutes. Skin crawling brilliant
Ukulele? It's a mandolin. And, it appears he's taken half the strings off and, I assume, run it through a 12 string FX box. That's a lot of attention to detail.
First, huge Cowboy Junkies fan. Ever since I first heard Caution Horses in ‘90. Always loved Those Final Feet, but this live version & the emotion in Margo’s voice as she sings it takes it to a new level. Tremendous band both musically & lyrically.
seriously, from the first time i heard them on wxpn til today, no band has captured so much emotion, so much gut wrenching how did i f*** up my life and at the same time leave you feeling uplifted at the end.
LOVE MARGO... When the Cowboys Junkies came out, I found a mirror. So, I bought their Cassett. As Life throws us tragedies, their music has never been more important to me. My husband, 5 years tommorrow fell during Work and broke his neck, resulting in BOB becoming a quadrapelegic C4... EVERYTHING Changes, peace.
I saw the incredible Cowboy Junkies during the (Rodney King) Los Angeles riots of 1992. It was a mesmerizing, almost phantasmagoric show. They opened for John Prine at the Pantages Theater on Hollywood Boulevard on May 8th of 1992. Although history states the LA riots ended a few days earlier, only the arsonist and looting stopped at that time. Hollywood Boulevard was blocked off by the National Guard checkpoints for 3 weeks in May. The freeway exits from Hollywood, South beyond South Central LA, were blocked off. It was eerie approaching the Pantages theater, and seeing an empty Hollywood Boulevard with fully armed guardsman with automatic weapons. The Pantages has approximately 2,700 seats, but only 500 were filled. We were able to move in close to the stage. I've never been to a concert with such a mesmerizing ambience, out of the 200+ shows I've been to.
Lyrics: Place my body on the funeral pyre, Cut it loose to float downstream Leave it frozen on a mountain top, Suspend it high to be picked clean You said never to grow old, But you forgot to tell me how You said never to grow old And then you sank your teeth into those final feet Last night I dreamt of owls at my window I knew that time was winding down Turned to tell you of my premonition, Changed my mind and lay back down You said never to grow old, But you forgot to tell me how You said never to grow old And then you sank your teeth into those final feet No sense wasting the time you got, You got to walk down every road No sense pretending that you're what you're not, When you got to shoulder every load You said never to grow old, But you forgot to tell me how You said never to grow old And then you sank your teeth into those final feet You said never to grow old, But you forgot to tell me how You said never to grow old
Is that really true about when the owl calls your name. Old northern First people saying, read a book by that title once. I guess when it happens, only you alone will know.
OK, I watched closely and I've got it: His mandolin only has 4 strings. They look thicker than usual mandolin strings (maybe in the range of guitar strings?). And the "mandolin" appears to be tuned like the top 4 strings of a guitar. So it is effectively an electric concert ukulele with a low note on the bottom string. A hot pickup and an overdrive pedal or two - maybe some judicious EQ tweaking and he's got the Les Paul sound. Brilliant! Swap this instrument out for a real mandolin on the songs that call for it. Rock on Jeff Bird!
It is a little unclear, but eventually I got it. Pretty heavy stuff stated in a few words. People sometimes hang on too long - they sink their teeth into those final feet.
No posing. Just a phenomenal amount of talent. Another great Canadian band proud to say.❤❤❤
I'd be happy to have this song played at my funeral. It could make a dead man smile and cry bittersweet tears.
God damn right brother!
Me as well Partner
Me as Well Brother God Bless
I was thinking the same thing as well!
I'm gonna be young forever. Never lose your child like Innocence

Michael Timmons is one of the best song writers of our time. His songs touch the deepest part of my soul.
Just how goddamned good is this woman!
Very damn good
Darn Good..even Better
She's a gift from god.
Hell yeah!

Margo's singing at 4:23 is the definition of transcendent- geez!

Truly incredible. Not only silky smooth but it cuts down to the bone.

Za fantastic song in combinatie with the band !!!
My God ... Margo is so brilliant here. What a voice!

It's almost like the song is singing HER......taking her somewhere. Watching her sing this....she almost isn't human for 5 minutes.
Skin crawling brilliant
Agree she is living it
A true singer, Mike Stipe of REM was like that, the song controlled him as much as he did it....
Damn right
Earth shattering, that is her voice. God love her.
Margo's intensity of delivery is shattering.
That side shot with her hair blowing gives me chills,
as does the timbre of her unique voice.
The Most Beautiful Song...I cried all the way thru...Oh what a Sweet 1
Oh Margo absolutely beautiful.
In spite of the electric ukelele this is very listenable. Margot Timmins has the rare talent of producing a singing voice at low volume.

One of my favorite, love the cowboy junkies .
Awesome version of this song, I like it better than the studio version on the CD!
+sportsterray66 I agree. This is a good tune on Miles From Our Home, but it's simply brilliant here.
I'm going to see them Nov.20th here in Chicago at The Old Town School of Folk Music, bought two of the last three tickets available for that night!
Lucky lucky. Enjoy the show! They haven't been through Dallas in a while. Hoping I get the chance.
I hope you do too, after three decades, they might decide to quit touring soon, glad I get to see them finally!
Love this gals voice
Miles from our Home - Best track 👍 thanks for sharing 😊

Lyrics:
Place my body on the funeral pyre,
Cut it loose to float downstream
Leave it frozen on a mountain top,
Suspend it high to be picked clean
You said never to grow old,
But you forgot to tell me how
You said never to grow old
And then you sank your teeth into those final feet
Last night I dreamt of owls at my window
I knew that time was winding down
Turned to tell you of my premonition,
Changed my mind and lay back down
You said never to grow old,
But you forgot to tell me how
You said never to grow old
And then you sank your teeth into those final feet
No sense wasting the time you got,
You got to walk down every road
No sense pretending that you're what you're not,
When you got to shoulder every load
You said never to grow old,
But you forgot to tell me how
You said never to grow old
And then you sank your teeth into those final feet
You said never to grow old,
But you forgot to tell me how
You said never to grow old

Awsome. Real power there.

Nice 'nice 👍👍😊
Too overwhelmed to say anything but "fabulous."
Is that really true about when the owl calls your name. Old northern First people saying, read a book by that title once. I guess when it happens, only you alone will know.
How in the world does he make his mandolin sound like a Les Paul? Maybe an octave lowering pedal?
Jeff Bird is a major talent!! Check out some of his solo stuff! Truly amazing!!
Heard them last nite & couldn’t figure where that sound of his was coming from😂

If she feels cheap , I wonder where that puts me?
i'm only young - can someone explain "those final teeth"?
sorry "final feet"
it's ok, I'm old enough to understand now - Jesus
It is a little unclear, but eventually I got it. Pretty heavy stuff stated in a few words. People sometimes hang on too long - they sink their teeth into those final feet.
Singer becomes tiresome...but the band never flags!
Awsome
