Thanks to this channel I discovered the classic 60's player strat, in my personal opinion the best series ever made By MIM Fender, classic looks and tone but extreme playability!
Excellent video; nice job! Everyone will have a different take on the tonal differences. For me the tone of the Classis Series had more clarity and beef (maybe not the best word?). I suspect if you could EQ the CS pickups they would have a slightly higher output around 500K, which would push the front of an amp a little harder. A blues player might want this. The CP was thinner, and twangier (again maybe not the best word) and for a "Corey" type player, or a country player, maybe the best choice. I can see great uses for both!
Thanks for your comment! Indeed with some EQ you can probably nail any classic Strat tone you want with both. The main difference with these two is the playability, the CP is a very different guitar compared to the CS, it has many modern features that make it easier to play it (at least for me).
@@LostPlectrum Agreed. I have other guitars with flatter fingerboards and it does make it easier to play for the most part. I think the exception is someone who relies on a heavy thumb over the neck style, where the 7.25" can help. All things considered, I would opt for the CP neck! Thanks for your kind reply!
@@Guitarslngr I personally think that those CP60s were among the best MIM Fender ever produced so far! They only missed rounded edges on the fretboard for a better feel, otherwise they are pretty cool! Thanks to you!
I like the Classic Series 60’s better. It looks vintage plus it is lighter than most strats. Mine it is in need of a re-fret so I am gonna get some medium jumbo.
Great comparison! I decided to do the best of both worlds and put the Custom 69's in my Classic Series. Perfect combination for my preferences with the 7.25 board and 6-point trem.
How does the 2018 classic series mim with pau ferro board compare to the latest player series strat? I have a player series in capri orange. And someone is selling a 2018 classic series with pau ferro sunburst strat for 550 dollars. Is it worth that price?
They are two very different Stratocaster, the Classic SERIES comes with vintage specifications like the 7.25 radius and small vintage frets. The recent PLAYER is more modern specs. Impossible to tell you which one is better for you since it6a personal preference, the price tag is about right by the way.
Man this is a great video review of both. Lovely work man. Great playing ....What's sad, I have a classic but it's the VIBE hahahah. Classic Vibe 60s but it's a great one. Alder /Maple/Rosewood which china crafted in 2015. But , I have the player series loaded pickguard. It's in a league of it's own and I absolutely love it. I will eventually put stainless frets on it if I get the chance. As I hope to keep it forever. Great review my friend.
There is my comment. Lol. Yes indeed. If I can find as close to Gilmours. But I am finding lately I am more needing to work on my playing. Lol. @@LostPlectrum
got a series 60s in electron blue w/ rosewood fretboard for 300 dollars recently. at that price point, it makes me think i'll never sell it. actually really like the pickups, they are bigger sounding, so you can get some nice warm dynamics in the neck pups with clean amp settings and bouncing between 5-10 on the tone knobs. I've gone between 20" fret radius, 12-16 compound, 9.5", and now this vintage 7.25" and really don't mind in my playing. have the trem set up nice and functional and it makes up for not being able to do the more crazy bends I can manage on my q series ibanez.
@@LostPlectrum it’s actually about two shades darker than lake placid. It gets darker in direct light. Extremely classy. It took a few hours to set up and about a half day of oiling the fretboard as it came to me scraped bone dry, but it soaked it all up, all of the screws and electronics functioned as they should. Needs a little fret work on the 9th fret, just a little high. Luckily I’m housemates with an apprentice luthier.
@@TheAndrewc5120 I never heard about a classic series 60 in electric blue, that's not a colour they used in that series. Are you sure about the colour?
@@LostPlectrumAH you know what? it's a standard upgraded stratocaster with the 60th anniversary badge on the back of the neck. guy that sold it to me had no idea, and i obviously didn't. that being said, still the best sounding strat i've personally played! And immensely classy colors all around.
@@TheAndrewc5120 ah, that makes sense then! Spotting a Strat model among all those variations out there can be quite tricky! Enjoy your new guitar! Wish you years of music with it! Rock on!!!
@@LostPlectrum yes my cp 60s has rosewood board, none of the mim fenders have had rosewood boards since around 2017,all pau ferro now, only fender japan and usa have rosewood boards these days, even some squiers had rosewood boards in the past, they are now laurel
add the most recent player series mim to add to the confusion,so classic player, classic series, player series lol almost as bad as ibanez.i constantly see mim fenders described wrongly on the used market, the cp is the best of the bunch, supposedly first 2 years 2006/7 have ybarra initialed pickups, that are slightly different from the custom 69s found in later cp models,i own a sonic blue 60s classic player from 2007,huge difference from the old mid 90s mim standard i used to have, the cp imho is the best guitar to be made by ensenada factory, its on par with a couple of my japanese made fenders, not all,and you dont hear me say that often about a mim,i dont think the vintera series that replaced the cp are quite as nice
Agree on every single word el bib! Every single words. Fender loves to confuse we customers, I have to say Gibson is doing the same or even worse than that because it's changing the specs of series over time. So not only the naming is controversial but you have even to consider when a guitar was built! By the way the CP line is the best Mim out there, Telecaster Baja included! Last but not least, add the Player Plus, and you get even more confusing picture!!!! Lol!!!!
This is how you compare the tones with these side by side comparison. Well done. Very different tones too, I do prefer the classic player.
Thanks mate, glad to see you around!

Classic player like the one in the vid or the more recent"player"? Fender likes to confuse us with similar model names!

Still plan to upgrade my Black MIM Gilmour vibe as I told you before. Hahah.

Love my CP strats
They are the best mim model in my opinion! Especially the CP60.
Good review, the classic player 60's has pau ferro in the fretboard, it's not rosewood.
Yes you are correct this one loaded with PF I think but they came with rosewood prior to.....when was that, 2018?

If you see CLASSIC SERIES with a serial beginning in MX13 grab it!!
Why do you like the 2013 ones?
classic player all the way

@@LostPlectrum I do not, but I wish :)

The classis series is not as TINNY as the classic player. Sounds more genuine to a 60's strat to me.
Classic series is one of the best kept secrets of Fender!
