@@Swordsquire I have a 92 EG Civic for 29 years now as my everyday car. I'm getting a Fit very soon tho. Parts are too hard to get for my Civic now and its pretty rundown (but still goes and gives great mileage)
@@lawrencedavidson6195 You have my envy, I still miss my little Stitch. I sold my 91EF about 9 years ago. The new owner totally rebuilt him from the ground up, with slight mods. I'm eyeballing the second gen, and/or a 3rd gen Fit Sport. Manual.
This was a really good video. I felt very comfortable listening and watching. Not a lot of industry jargon, either. Just honest, straightforward exposition of a new car. Thanks for your no-nonsense, yet friendly delivery!
I just got a white 2017 Honda Fit EX and I hope I can get use to not having dials & hope the computerized technology doesn't break. There isn't a lot of storage for CD's. I read that the 15 & 16 ARE UNCOMFORTABLE but when I tried, could feel it off the bat. Maybe the head thing was tiny bit more forward which may be the cause..
I bought a red 2017 LX yesterday. So far I just love it. The storage space is incredible. I just don't think you can do any better at the price point. Its a fine ride.
There's 2 car review channels that I always look for when needing someone's opinions on cars, SUVs and trucks. Alex on Autos and KBB reviews. They are both very professionally done, great videography and easy to digest and comprehend. I like watching certain "amateur" reviewers but watching their obviously amateurish videos gets boring and tiring....but they do have their place in the UA-cam universe. Keep it up, Alex, Micah and company!
I don't want.to shock you, but I like it...its.my commuter. I own a Hell cat for fun. My wife enjoys it, it's our 3rd car. It gets great mpg and I'm not short and I feel comfortable. For the price, there is not much I like.
I'm not a fan of sub-compacts with sub-compact 4-cylinder engines, but I recently test drove a new Fit with the CVT and I was pleasantly surprised. It feels sporty, the paddle shifters actually respond very well, it's comfortable, and just generally fun to drive. Not too shabby, Honda!!
Why do all the reviewers complain about no radio dials when you have controls on the steering wheel which means you don't even have to take your hands off the wheel to work the radio. For years complaints were why don't they put control's on the steering and now that they are,you want the knobs back.
I think it's more that they bothered to put audio controls on both, but put a far more inferior control on the dash instead of just using a standard dial. If you're going to do both, do it right, ya'know? The slide control is a bit ass on the Hondas imo.
It looks like the rear seat doesn't fold as flat as my on my 2009 fit. It seems to leave quite a big hump. No more sleeping in the back on long road trips.
I really don't understand the complaint of the touchscreen volume control. When you can easily change it on the steering wheel where its easily accessible without letting go of it. Which is safer. Looks like every other car reviewer mentions this just so they can have more to write or make their videos longer.
The new 2018 Honda Fit has a tuning knob on the radio and is supposed to be quieter with improved driving dynamics over the 2017 model. The Fit is one of the few Honda vehicles that actually looks good to me style wise. People complain that the Fit only has 130 horse power, but the base 1995 Toyota Camry had only 125 HP, and the 1990 Camry had just 115 HP. Horse power keeps going up, but people keep complaining that cars do not have enough. You can get a speeding ticket driving any car sold in the USA. They all will go 80 MPH or faster, even the tiny Mitsubishi models. The Fit is certainly an efficient, well designed vehicle all around.
The pricing in Canada, specifically Alberta, is so bad. The Fit LX with a CVT costs $21,500, while the Civic LX with a CVT costs a hair over $20,000. Like, seriously?
After 16 months with my EX 6MT I'm very pleased. My only real complaint is with the stock tires. The Firestone FR740s are disappointing. They are reasonably predictable, and grip levels are OK for an A rated tire, but tread life is pathetic. Average seems to be about 14 months for most reviewers. I got 16 months. (Yes, I kept them properly inflated and rotate them regularly.) But even with these uninspiring tires, it is still a nimble, well balanced fwd car. I just ordered a set of BF Goodrich G-Force Sport Comp 2s in 205/50R16 (same rolling circumference as the stock 185/55R16 and still fits the rim width).
Really enjoyed this review. I love how he pointed out the low arm rest and touch screen lacking knobs for volume controls. I love everything about the car but for me I get worried about safety especially when I want my family to drive this car. Lack of rear brakes worry me.
I want this to be my first vehicle, but I want the EX-L trim with navigation. In either the color black or passion berry with all black interior. I really love this vehicle. :) :) :) :)
I looked at a Honda Fit & a Nissan Versa Note & a Kia Soul. I bought the 2016 Kia Soul because the quality blew the other two out of the water. The soul cost less, has a beautiful interior & better quality larger more comfortable seats. We love that the Soul sits higher & is easier to get in & out of. Kia is owned by Hyundai now so it gets the 10 Year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. I got the Caribbean Blue, love it!
Gave some friends a ride to lunch in my '17 Fit and they were impressed that it was so roomy inside for a small car....smiling, I told them that the Honda Fit is only little on the outside.
Well put together. One question: previous reviews of earlier models indicate 4k rpm's at 80 mph, results in a LOT of noise. Does this model still need 4,000 rpm at 80 mph?
Thank you for not reviewing the top of line model. You give us the basics and let those with extra dollars go surprise and delight themselves on their own time.
Probably the best subcompact money can buy in North America. However given the engine, I can only dream what a Fit Si can do if Honda fitted it with the Civic Sport 1.5L turbo with 180hp.
Just bought mine and I already want to trade it. Civic/Camry both get almost as good MPG, yet is have larger more powerful engines and are far more comfortable on hwy. The gearing on the manual is weird as well - 1-4 seem normal, then 5 and 6 are more like 4.1 and 4.2...it's at like 3.5k RPM at 75 mph - who only drives 60 on the hwy? When I test drove mine, i only got it to ~60mph and really wish I took it to freeway speeds because I would NOT have bought it. They seemed to have designed shifter and arm rests for someone who has 5' arms. They must've hired interns to design and code their 7' display - it doesn't work and is confusing and challenging to use. Loads of craftsmanship and usability issues, which I imagine are a result of engineering cost out exercises. They better hope this thing is reliable af because that's about the only thing going for it imo. I'm hoping to trade mine and not lose too much money. Buy a civic or a camry.
Lets have an update. Serious Quality control issues. I find, that the driver seat heating coils in the heated seats primary heat my BACK in the driver side seat, with very little heat down low. While the passenger seat Primary heats my BUM. with very little heat on my back. I have found flipping the head rest greatly improves the comfort of the car, however I am unsure of the effect on safety.
You forgot to mention which model you are driving and personally commenting on (ie the comment of the volume control you made doesn't apply to all three models) nor does the sunroof come with the base (LX) model which would then give you more Head Room (that you pointed out as a vice you see intergrated sunroofs will reduce your standard head room area). The Fit's CVT transmission is one of those areas that one should also talk about, Normal hwy driving RPMs are greatly reduce from Manual option and from earlier designed CVT which is one of my favorite features. Oh, and all Model Fits have a seat height adjustment (at least for the driver), It will adjust quite low for a-tall-in-the-seat driver, above the LX model, larger tires and wheels improve the ride and tracking by seemingly 50%, at the expense of a couple miles per gallon. The Base model has 150w, 4 speaker stereo, vs the 160w, 6 speaker with the high models.
You summed it nicely to why the CVT model is "better" than the manual in the current Fit - the RPMs are just too high at highway cruise speeds on the manual transmission. This becomes annoying on long highway drives. I suppose if you just drive majority city then this may be a non-issue but anyone doing highway driving for any period of time, seriously look into this factor before deciding to go with the manual. Problem seems to be that Honda configured 5th and 6th gears to be essentially the same ratio, so 6th barely has any benefit over 5th. A shame really. Maybe done on purpose, to steer people away from the manual.
Hey everyone, I am considering this car as it's much more affordable than what I'm driving now. I'm changing careers so wanna play it safe and cut as many expenses as possible. Just a few key (to me) questions that I would appreciate anyone's feedback on: I'm 6 ft, 190 lbs... will I be comfortable in here? The reviewer mentioned the low middle armrest... is it that low that it is hard to rest your right elbow/forearm on? Is the hard material on the left armrest really that uncomfortable? I'm expecting resale to be quite strong on the Fit... Is the car assembled well (squeeks, rattles, etc)? How is the brake pedal feel? Firm? Or spongy with lots of pedal travel? Noise? Comfort on long-ish drives? Thanks again everyone.
I own a 2017 fit LX/CVT. I am about your size (well a little heavier). The low middle armrest...true, it is low, that could have been better thought out. Hard material on the left armrest is not uncomfortable... The car is a high quality build, no squeaks no rattles, although you will hear the engine. The brakes are good, plus the CVT almost seems to sense braking and helps with braking. I use mine 90% for urban driving. I think the Fit would be OK for a couple of hours of driving, but not sure I'd want to do a cross the USA road trip in it.....Best thing to do is go to a dealer and take a test drive.
Interior noise has been an issue all along. It would seem to be still be a cause for concern. Pushing $20K well equipped, it's hard to ignore this. Having to make the radio louder once up to speed gets annoying after a while.
hans chueh I test drove one Saturday and I'm 6 feet + 309 lbs. Once I was n the car, I had room. I drove a 6 speed manual and with the salesman and running the a/c. The engine feel stronger than any 91cuin power plant, I ever driven before. It's ugly but my 04 Trailblazer only get 17 mpg.
About the touchscreen volume...I drive a Fit and there's a real convenient big button on the steering wheel that lets you change the volume and channel. I never even use the touchscreen for volume. Buuuut, then again it's not the base model.
+SaharaGem I'm not crazy about the touchscreen volume control myself, but duh.... as you mentioned, there is this button on the steering wheel.... how was that not covered in the video?
I really want this car, but one thing that turned me off about it was the engine noise that was made when I would accelerate during my test drive. I love this car a lot for its features, price, and fuel efficiency. I knew that this car was expected to have road noise due to its class, but the engine noise was loud!. My kia soul does better in terms of engine noise in the cabin. Any thoughts anyone?
Slow as hell, but was great on gas, 7.8 gallons full tank every time I went to get gas and about $18 bucks on 87 octane. 43 mpg was the best i did on highways. Beats paying 40k for a Lexus hatch hybrid. But moved on to a 2017 wrx limited and don't miss this lil guy.
i owned one, GK5 model. Cons: Useless arm rest (too low) Touch screen less responsive Noisy engine when accelerating 7 cup holders (do u need that much?) stock tire could be better Pro: Good FC Well placed cupholder (the one on the driver side at the aircon vent) Spacious rear legroom Completely flat rear seat when folding Magic seat / Ultra seat/ utility mode
My '15 Fit quietly shutters me from point A to point B without any fanfare or hoopla. Its very low on the police radar, and with a name like Fit along with that computer mouse of a profile, it is low on the fellow driver's incitement meter as well. Plus, it can swallow up my full suspension 29'er - with both wheels attached. No more folding bike racks or Yakima roof racks.
Maybe after hearing enough from KBB and other outlets, Honda will update armrest and side door cushioning as they did with the Civic. Or bolt on side armrest like on previous generation Fit.
+penvon Why don't you just tell us? Assembled in Mexico. I know that, but I'd like to hear about the front seat comfort, or lack thereof. My sister bought an insight a few years ago and had to sell it in just a few months because the driver's seat was downright painful. She said her hips hurt all day long, and her commute was only 20 minutes. She traded it in on a Toyota product and is thrilled with how comfortable it is, even after a 300 mile drive, she can still walk without pain. It completely soured her on Honda products. They miss the mark in some areas, making it seem like they aren't even trying. I'm a driving enthusiast, but I was hooked by Toyota's comfort and reliability a few years back when I test drove a 2007 Camry Hybrid. I'm on my 3rd one and have now driven almost 300k miles with only one problem. The new Rav4 Hybrid fets the same EPA mileage rating as my 1st gen Camry Hybrid did and very comfortable and capable vehicle. I will be buying one this summer.
When the new generation Honda Fit came out I really didn't like the exterior styling at all-- It has since however grown on me. I would purchase the vehicle. I'm glad it comes with a manual transmission. I will NEVER in my life buy a CVT transmission car. My Mom had a Nissan Versa-- Absolutely terrible. CVT's are simply depressing to those whom love driving. The new generation Civic looks amazing too and I'm glad it is also available in manual transmission. Now only if hybrids could be made with manual transmission without around the same miles per gallon I would actually think of buying one. Great review though, Kelley Blue Book.
Needs a 1.8. I have a big family all over the world and have driven dozens and dozens of different cars a total of around 2 million miles. I would never consider anything under a 1.8 for a number of reasons, but the primary reasons? Overall usefulness, safety and reliability... Try to drive this car with 4 people from Miami to New York and you'll understand my reasoning. There is NO substitute for reasonable displacement.
and i also have to add that this was the best car review ive seen out of so many ive watched literally because he didnt feel the need to drive a 100mph wich every other car tester seems to find the need to do so wich i find no need for at all best car review and test drive hands down....
yep....totally agree. I really couldn't care less about how the Fit does in a 1/4 mile drag race......that isn't what this car is about. The Fit is about efficiency, dependability, low purchase cost, and the ability to carry an amazing amount of cargo.
I found the center console with armrest new on e-bay for the Honda Fit for $44. "Rotatable Storage Box Armrest Center Console For Honda Fit Jazz 2009-2013 12 11" Brand: XUKEY. Made in California.
Miguel, for fuel sipping leader status along with obtaining any remaining incentives for owning and driving one, the hybrid would be the choice. For very good gas mileage in a non-hybrid vehicle, along with possibly the most utilitarian vehicle for the money, the Fit would be the clear choice. Are you a dedicated and devoted Green person? Or are you looking for excellent gas mileage along with the flexibility of an interior that can hold bikes, large stuff from Home Depot, and score points by helping your friends move? Ask yourself these questions, come up with a strong answer, buy the car with no buyer's remorse. Be happy.
I'm thinking about buying an everything car and this may be it. I currently own a new Miata, a newish Xterra 4X4 and a BWM motorcycle. That's $75K in vehicles when this $21K car can do a lot of what I need minus the thrills of off-roading, top-down fun and blasting around town...which I rarely do since I work so much and need to commute 100 miles a day.
+Edslittleworld I've had my 2015 for 14 months... 35,000 miles on it now... commute 60 miles each way and did a trip to FL... all I can say is that I look forward to my commutes - I REALLY like driving this car. The only bummers I've ever had were things that happened to the car - I've hit two nasty potholes bent the rim once, replaced two tires... but still drives nice... give it a try!
Ed, you're very welcome. I'm going the "backwards" route here. Depending on the path that I choose, I may opt to get an "obsession car" AYPI - However, at this point I really like this car so much it is currently my obsession car. I got 275,000 out my my previous car (a Civic), although I treated it well mechanically, I treated it as a utility. Perhaps once it's christened with a fender-bender, my Fit will be deprecated to utility status, and I can move on to own a garage-kept white-gloves-only pleasure car.
LOL...be careful what you ask for! I have a 2016 Launch Edition Miata that I'm obsessed about. It gets 34 mpg just zipping around town. However, it's sooo impractical and a bit spooky to drive as it's soooo low to the ground in a world of pickups and SUVs. Oh well...thanks for the advice, nonetheless!
Think about it Ed... what's more impractical in this day and age... a pickup or an SUV that gets at best 20-25 mpg and is used for commuting (I live in rural NJ, so I know there are many legit business uses) but c'mon... I know there are at least some that are just driven to show "manliness" or "status". I commend those such as you who can have fun in a vehicle getting 34 mpg. A minor suggestion... get a highly visible dashcam for all to see, (and act responsibly yourself) and nobody messes with you...
No automatic climate control in any US model. No automatic starter in keystart model - you have to hold the key until the engine starts - unlike some other cars where you just turn the key momentarily - and the starter runs by itself until the engine starts.
I'm surprised to see so many people hating the styling. I think it looks great!
Agreed!
the stilling is downgrade from the second generation.

Too bad finding a Fit (or any other small car) with the manual is so hard. Every dealer in my area only carries either an automatic or a CVT.
Or just finding one most dealerships barely stock them because people..... Want the civic?
And somewhere right around 2:20 I let out the single loudest *HA!* ever uttered by man. Love you, Micah

I have found flipping the head rest greatly improves the comfort of the car, however I am unsure of the effect on safety.
the manual fit is much faster than the cvt equipped one. the cvt model is very slow.
Am I the only one wondering why you are reviewing a 2017 honda fit on 2014???
Are the seats comfortable? Surprised your review didn't try to answer that question.
Hey everyone, I am considering this car as it's much more affordable than what I'm driving now. I'm changing careers so wanna play it safe and cut as many expenses as possible. Just a few key (to me) questions that I would appreciate anyone's feedback on:
I'm 6 ft, 190 lbs... will I be comfortable in here?
"2017 Honda Fit" and the video was uploaded in Aug 2014? Typo?
Do you think the Fit can withstand Canadian winters with winter tires?
how tall are you?
hans chueh Micah is 5'10". Hope that helps! :)
Same as me! thanks
hans chueh I test drove one Saturday and I'm 6 feet + 309 lbs. Once I was n the car, I had room. I drove a 6 speed manual and with the salesman and running the a/c. The engine feel stronger than any 91cuin power plant, I ever driven before. It's ugly but my 04 Trailblazer only get 17 mpg.
I bought it!
hans chueh Auto or stick? I would buy one but I have to pay off my 2011 Ninja 1st.
Can anyone spot the Chevy volt at the 3:15 Mark?
Why did you not mention the right turn camera and two reverse cameras?
I really don't understand the use of cameras on the Fit, because it's got 10 windows with excellent visibility.
I like how you finally criticize cars instead of posting only standards and options.
How are the girls suppose to mount me in this car. There is no head room.
i owned one, GK5 model.
Cons:
Useless arm rest (too low)
Touch screen less responsive
Noisy engine when accelerating
7 cup holders (do u need that much?)
stock tire could be better
Pro:
Good FC
Well placed cupholder (the one on the driver side at the aircon vent)
Spacious rear legroom
Completely flat rear seat when folding
Magic seat / Ultra seat/ utility mode
My '15 Fit quietly shutters me from point A to point B without any fanfare or hoopla. Its very low on the police radar, and with a name like Fit along with that computer mouse of a profile, it is low on the fellow driver's incitement meter as well. Plus, it can swallow up my full suspension 29'er - with both wheels attached. No more folding bike racks or Yakima roof racks.
Maybe after hearing enough from KBB and other outlets, Honda will update armrest and side door cushioning as they did with the Civic. Or bolt on side armrest like on previous generation Fit.
Is the motor loud? Like the Ford Fiesta's is ridiculously loud. Also, I'm 5' 3" with a German Shepherd and a Great Pyrenees. Think they'll fit?
JustSaying They would fit fine :) and so would you. And no, it's really quiet.
What small fuel efficient combat would you recommend that's under 20k. Also doesn't have to be 2015

+Kelley Blue Book tell the consumers about the comfort of the front seats, how BAD they are & where this vehicle was assembled.
I will be buying one this summer.
isn't there volume controls on the steering wheel?
Does this still have the compartment beneath the rear seats?
i want one with auto . how much? do i need to choose the high trim for cvt?
Are those paddler shifters on the steering wheel?
it looks better in person. saw one last week. red color. very nice.
I hope they will bring the hybrid version from Japan.
How much is it sold in US 4S store?
Needs a 1.8. I have a big family all over the world and have driven dozens and dozens of different cars a total of around 2 million miles. I would never consider anything under a 1.8 for a number of reasons, but the primary reasons? Overall usefulness, safety and reliability... Try to drive this car with 4 people from Miami to New York and you'll understand my reasoning. There is NO substitute for reasonable displacement.
do you have time machine i mean this video is uploades 2014 and you saying this is 2017?
and i also have to add that this was the best car review ive seen out of so many ive watched literally because he didnt feel the need to drive a 100mph wich every other car tester seems to find the need to do so wich i find no need for at all best car review and test drive hands down....
yep....totally agree. I really couldn't care less about how the Fit does in a 1/4 mile drag race......that isn't what this car is about. The Fit is about efficiency, dependability, low purchase cost, and the ability to carry an amazing amount of cargo.
Omg my name is Claribel too! I always wanted to know someone else with the name! 😁
I found the center console with armrest new on e-bay for the Honda Fit for $44. "Rotatable Storage Box Armrest Center Console For Honda Fit Jazz 2009-2013 12 11" Brand: XUKEY. Made in California.
*****, what did you think of the CVT? The car sounded rather buzzy under hard acceleration in your video. ;-)
Would you recommend this car for someone that's short say 5 ft?
Oh yes lol im 5'5 and I fit perfect
Thanks for the review. We are in the market for a compact hatch. Would you recommend a fit, an impreza or another?
please make a review of 2015 nissan rogue select S.. thankyou
w.. what's the different between Fit and Jazz? The look the same
Where do you fill the gas tank?
At the gas station.
+WarpWorld7 I know that but where is the gas tank?
Ruth Yoerg In the car.
1:03 the circle on the right hand side, that's the gas tank. Hope that helps!
Honda Fit or Toyota Prius C? can't decide :/
Be happy.

How many miles would a car like this last?
Does it offer good ground clearance?
How can a 2017 car review be posted in 2014?
How was this posted in 2014 yet it is a 2017 Honda fit?? And who else is here watching this in 2020
I'm thinking about buying an everything car and this may be it.
Thanks, Travis! I just might! I have 3 niche cars and now just want a fun, but non-obsession car to tool around in.
Gas tank under the driver's seat...is that a dangerous place?
I like Micah's reviews. I think he and Mat Watson are my fave car reviewers. PS: Nice farmers tan Micah. :)
No automatic climate control in any US model. No automatic starter in keystart model - you have to hold the key until the engine starts - unlike some other cars where you just turn the key momentarily - and the starter runs by itself until the engine starts.
+Theodore Zuckerman Talk about first world problems.
how will i open the radio
How was this published in 2014?...
