My innate instinct is to fire off a shotgun of thoughts and words so that the person listening can understand every nuance and layer of what I’m saying. This has lead me to saying WAY more than I should. Then I’d get carried away and wear my thoughts and feelings on my sleeve. @@KingStoic101 , Thank you for all of your thoughts and careful readings of the points which have helped me for years. Yes, wisdom passed down through the generations. I think my friend cared very much about how I could best put to use in my life, the potential I had. (Or, HE thought I had!) How many would care to mentor a young person like that? I embrace silence. Though I am an introvert, this is not the same as me practicing silence because I habitually have inner conversations that led to having negative feelings. Thoughts of people, places, and things that negatively affected my life. Being silent inwards in a wonderful gift to possess as it is truly golden.
Intrusive thoughts only get worse as you get older. Why did no one tell us this when we were children/younger. You hear of wrinkles, sore knees, slowing down, loosing memory, hurting joints, hip replacements but no one ever tells us that the inner voices take over. Not only as you mentioned, thing that have negatively affected us but, at least in my case, things I should not have done. Seldom these were not born out of malice but out of ignorance but they haunt me just the same. If as we grew up we realised that growing old is more than just about greying hair or losing it altogether, we were subtly taught that our actions bring consequences of many levels even into old age to the point where everything is replayed over and over and over and over again. Even as an appreciative, thankful and positive person it is difficult to keep it all at bay. Anyhow, all those negatives actions are on them, not on you. All good wishes.

I enjoy silence so so much no one can come and stay focus and more energy towards inner your inner self and stronger and fearless and speaks for you entirely real facts.
I embrace silence. In my homeland of Hawaii there is a ancestral proverb that roughly translates, "In language there is life, in language there is death. Speak wisely." As we learn from hermetic teachings, eastern Hindu and Asian cultures and Toltec wisdoms of the southern Americas, (everywhere really) words are like spells harnessing universal energies that when focused and channeled may manifest intention along side the actions we carry out...
'Chosen' being the operative word. In one of his most recent video, on discerning between GOOD and BAD people, the choice of words was wordperfect. Beautifully selected to deliver his message. Not a word too many, not a word short. Haven't finished watching yet but the same appears to be true of this video. He is not only delivering the message of this one in his wording but by example, a meta-delivery if you will.
Your comment, Craig, encapsulates a sentiment that resonates deeply with many on their personal journeys. The gratitude you express for the message reflects an openness to receiving guidance and wisdom, even in unexpected places. It speaks to a humility and awareness that we all need support and encouragement on our journeys, no matter how far we've come or how much we've achieved. "Enjoy your journey everyone, it's important you do!"-this line encapsulates a profound truth about life. It reminds us that while we may have goals to strive for and challenges to overcome, it's equally crucial to savor the present moment and find joy in the process of growth and self-discovery. Your words evoke a sense of camaraderie and shared humanity, inviting others to join you in embracing the adventure of life. They inspire curiosity about the experiences that led you to this realization and provoke introspection about how each of us can find fulfillment in our own unique journeys. I had been for years under the effects of extreme duress and also trauma. Physically, the levels of cortisol were so high and it took a good while for me to regain hormonal balance. The long term effects for me were that I was unilaterally expressing myself with others. Once I was able to regain balance in life, unseen to untrained eyes, the stress hormones subsided, and I was able to regain my full self, where I became more receptive than responsive. The long lost person, who was gaining information to a world that freely reveals itself to those who are attentive, re-emerged and again I was able to listen purposefully and attentively. It has been a superpower that I lost somehow and now regained. Thank you to the Stoic Community, and its creators, for sharing the core values of this Super power, and sometimes super weapon. If only were were still.
Your journey from enduring extreme stress to reclaiming your inner peace and attentiveness is truly inspiring It’s a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience we can discover within ourselves How do you now apply your regained superpower of attentive listening in your daily interactions to foster deeper connections and understanding?
Be still and allow the world to reveal itself" is one thing I keep reminding myself and repeat it often. Listening requires silence. but this video has taken it to the max. knowing the reasons for a contemplative demeanor makes it so much more valid. I apply it to understand the situation and the person in front of me. It is when we grasp the fulls spectrum of things that the best decisions arise. @@KingStoic101 Thanks for acknowledging my comments (and experiences) Not all in life is a good experience. We find moments of crises and strife. I hope that they may be of use to others as well. How video contents can be of high value for the world. Indeed, our character is tested, not when things go well, but when things go awry. I am still an extrovert, and quite communicative. But in between those moments of interaction, people still reveal who they are, what they are about, and if this is a healthy relationship I'd like to cultivate or toxic interaction that may be the cause for a lot of contention later. With even small bits of attention, if truly listening and absorbing, they still reveal a lot about themselves. And I make just a small decision in terms of finding them healthy to be in my close inner circle or To push them further and further away to the outer circle and have no contact.
As a child I was always told to only speak when necessary and always make sure it’s relevant. I was disciplined to never interrupt adult’s conversations and never talks back while being scolded because it was a form of disrespect and a form of rage. After being scolded we were given the time to speak and explain our side. I imbrace silence, silence is virtue and discipline
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that my post has helped boost your confidence. Embracing who you are is a wonderful thing, and I'm glad I could play a part in that. Keep being true to yourself!
Silence is golden. Two ears one mouth. I’m learning this slowly. I’ll only share my opinions now if asked and only fully depending on who’s asking. My circle is small and I don’t trust many.
This is so true! In high school I was bullied (name calling) and I would never say anything back. One day she asked me "why don't you ever say anything" I stopped, looked at her, and smiled ...turned back around and went on my way. 😄 It really does confuse people because they are looking for reaction.
Very sorry about the passing of a good man. I've been watching his videos for less that a year and learned enormous amounts of stuff from John. My best oto his wife and his kids. Very sad indeed.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's great to hear that the video resonated with you. The Fifth Habit from Stephen Covey is indeed a powerful reminder to prioritize understanding others before seeking to be understood. I'm glad you found value in it.
In the past, I have a few friends who were silent and always made me thought how to break them. I was an opposite but now I come to realised if then I spoken less, maybe I would have able see the upcoming disaster that made me into my downfall. Now I am still learning to speak less, saying less then my friends used to question me if Im alright, meaning if I am talking they assume all is well within me. When im quite they think i was angry 🤣, I have this face which if I keep quite, my face is a litttle combinations of scary and seriously dangerous. I dont want that so to avoid it, I tend to be the joker and and also the ice breakers among our friends. Sense of humour and telling porkies that was funny. My transformation into Stoicsm phylosophy would definitely made my friend surprise a bit. I would still talk only when its necessary. Thank you for this principles and it would surely help me more build my strength even more and listen more and see dangers before it connects into my life again. 🙏🙏👏👏👌

I truly appreciate this channel. I have watched several videos on several topics in Stoicism, and they are all very information. The opportunity to embrace meaningful silence more often came to me at the perfect time. I am living and teaching in a foreign country and I have found myself choosing structured silence to more effectively interact and communicate with my co-workers. It has already helped me in ways I didn't know it could.
I was the person who used to speak less ,used to be a silent, shy girl , but now i dont know why ,i dont know what happened to me 😌, I'm not able to control my words from years ,i hurt people sometimes ,got hyper and anxious 😢, i dont know why this silent girl turned out to be a talkative girl 🥺😌😌 , i want to be who i was an year ago who used to speak less ,who used to appreciate silence , and im working on myself 🙂🙃
It's fascinating to see your journey from silence to expressiveness and now seeking a return to your roots. What steps do you think can help you find that balance between expressing yourself and valuing silence once again?
Anger can pop out like that when it has been sucked up instead of being appropriately expressed. Btw, I hate the word "appropriate. " Who gets to decide that?
Your awareness of this change in yourself is a key step in learning to step back, pause, and listen. Awareness is first and sometimes hardest- so you're on the right path!❤
It sounds like you were only being silent out of fear. Your talkative nature is a product of you growing out of that fear. Now you are looking for balance. You'll find it.
I Embrace Silence , committing to a journey of deep listening and reflective wisdom. I am in control of living a life filled with more depth, meaning, and value. Thank you for this life lesson.
Silence has always helped me think. It sets fools on their heels too. I almost don't want to waste the breath and time exhaustively arguing and complaining when I could be fixing things best to my ability. Embrace Silence my friends and your breath while you have it.
I embrace silence. Thank you for the insightful video on this. It resonates with how I respond to my significant other, who is the mother of my only child, with her talking more while I often silently listen.
"Wow, thanks for sharing this insightful piece on the power of silence and the stoic philosophy! It's amazing how speaking less can actually amplify our presence and impact. Embracing silence isn't just about withholding words but about choosing when to speak with intention. Let's delve deeper into this transformative journey together!"
Beautiful the reach of this knowledge doesnt only reflect your personal feelings but the fundamentals of wisdom as well just as the bible states of all who wish to heal so your intentions honor those reflective catalogs less but meaning towards the same propisitions for what it means to have mercy on yourself
Working on it - it's the writer in me - and the teacher. I am mainly quiet except when I believe someone is trustworthy. I have found out the hard way that people can pretend to be trustworthy - just to figure out your weak areas. I have cut back on trusting and therefore cut back on talking. I keep working on it. A little bell goes off in my head now when I find myself about to share when I should not share. My mother told me when I was a little girl that talking and trusting were my main problems. Thought before speech.
I’ve had an emotional month. For some reason I kind of shut down at work. I don’t want to talk to anyone. It’s more that I’m avoiding people while I feel so negative and depressed, but I’m even avoiding people I like. Some of them have noticed that something is not normal with me as I’m usually more upbeat and positive. But I’m just telling people that I don’t want to talk about it and that usually ends the conversation. Really I am tired of superficial connections that don’t make it past the work parking lot. And I’m so let down by people who start to show some interest in me but ghost me, don’t call back, are too busy for me or whatever, and I wonder if I just put out a vibe like I have friends and am not attractive. Contempt is the correct word for what I feel for my coworkers and personal life. I can’t seem to form relationships and I’m becoming more lonely by the day. I work in a large Emergency Department as a nurse. There’s a lot of snobby/arrogant people there it’s relatively people considering how big the unit is but those individuals are more challenging and arrogant than your average snob. Many people there I have tried to make friends with. But I can’t seem to develop any more than a superficial relationship with anyone. Last month I noticed a group of people go out and hang out with each other that were people that I had tried to connect with. But they didn’t want to connect with me. They just ended up connecting with each other. Which made me feel like a loser. So now I feel contempt and I don’t want to continue trying to connect with people. So at work I have largely quit talking or making eye contact with people so that I can avoid them. That’s what led me to this video. I just want to know how to learn the trait correctly so my work silence becomes a virtue. That leads to a better personal life and better work life.
In observation of Law #4 "Always say less than necessary". In 1922, a young woman said to President Calvin (aka Silent Cal), Mr. President, I made a bet that I can get you to say more than three words. His response was "You lose". King Louis XIV was known for saying "je verrai" (I shall see) when dealing with his ministers regarding matters of importance.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It's great to hear that you resonate with the Stoic philosophy. Keep exploring our videos and embracing that mindset.
I see now those moments of clarity, when the obvious emerges from the obscured are those quiet moments. The silence invited the moment of clarity. Now I have it.
Im learning this lesson. My roommate likes to hear himself all the time. I aint entertisning his demand for attention by bring silent and ignoring his negativity
Interesting, I had not considered weaponising silence. It makes a lot of sense. It can also be used with compassion. Staying silent allows others to reflect on what they have said. It goes both ways i can see. I will make more effort to learn more about this. I am interested in learning more about philosophy and am glad to be here. I think i will listen to a podcast a day on philosophy.

Speak wisely."
As we learn from hermetic teachings, eastern Hindu and Asian cultures and Toltec wisdoms of the southern Americas, (everywhere really) words are like spells harnessing universal energies that when focused and channeled may manifest intention along side the actions we carry out...
silence and virtue .....brougth out the best of me .. PEASE AND APPRECIATION
Too soon old, too late smart. Your chosen words are invaluable to me. I so much appreciate this. Thank you.
😮😮😊@@seasun7745
Me too. But I remind myself I am actually not old and have many years to practice these principles to improve. Perhaps the same for you?
we embrace silence
Thank you this was the message I needed this morning. Enjoy your journey everyone, it’s important you do!
Your comment, Craig, encapsulates a sentiment that resonates deeply with many on their personal journeys. It's a reminder that amidst life's trials and tribulations, there are moments of clarity and inspiration that serve as guiding lights along our paths.
Overall, your comment serves as a beacon of positivity and encouragement in a world often fraught with uncertainty. It reminds us to cherish every step of the journey, for it is through embracing both the highs and lows that we truly discover the beauty of life.
Thank you every morning I listened before leave my bed ....million thank ❤
Your journey from enduring extreme stress to reclaiming your inner peace and attentiveness is truly inspiring
It’s a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience we can discover within ourselves
How do you now apply your regained superpower of attentive listening in your daily interactions to foster deeper connections and understanding?
Be still and allow the world to reveal itself" is one thing I keep reminding myself and repeat it often. Listening requires silence. but this video has taken it to the max. knowing the reasons for a contemplative demeanor makes it so much more valid. I apply it to understand the situation and the person in front of me. It is when we grasp the fulls spectrum of things that the best decisions arise. Thank you again, for taking the time for this uplifting production.@@KingStoic101
How did you get your cortisol level under control?? I know reducing stress is the best way and what affects did cortisol have on your body?? I'm struggling with something not good!!
@@jenchristeson2796 Your proactive approach to managing stress is commendable! Have you explored any Stoic practices or mindfulness techniques to help cope with your current challenges? We'd love to offer support and insights to assist you on your journey to well-being!
I love how the thumbnails sum it up in case I don't have time.
Thanks for noticing that! It's definitely a convenient way to get the gist of the video. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts!
I love that too! Makes me actually focus better on the video. Thanks. @@thestoiccommunity
Talking less will help us think more deeply in every situation. I like stoicism. Thanks for sharing. 😘
I embrace silence. I've always been the one who listens instead of the one who talks constantly.
It's great to hear that you embrace silence and appreciate being a good listener.
This post has given me confidence in myself, because I have always been what I thought was reserved shy etc Thankyou
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that my post has helped boost your confidence. Embracing who you are is a wonderful thing, and I'm glad I could play a part in that. Keep being true to yourself!
The duality of existence is reflected in silence.
I embrace the power of silence..
I love this channel!
Silence is golden. Two ears one mouth. I’m learning this slowly. I’ll only share my opinions now if asked and only fully depending on who’s asking. My circle is small and I don’t trust many.
We get so much inspiration from your videos .
Changing and altering as a person
Much appreciated with all your posts! Transformation is acknowledged. Let's embrace silence.! Thank you.
Thank you😊❤
Thanks!😂❤😊
Thank you brother; for preaching the right words to our youth.
I embrace deeper contemplation.
Thank you for yet another epic stoic video i always look forward to watching these with my first cup of coffee thank you for giving us silent people hope that we are doing yhe right thing with our silence
It's great to hear that you enjoy watching them with your morning coffee. Keep embracing your silence and finding strength in it.
Reminds me of Stephen Covey's Fifth Habit, the most important one.....Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's great to hear that the video resonated with you. The Fifth Habit from Stephen Covey is indeed a powerful reminder to prioritize understanding others before seeking to be understood. I'm glad you found value in it.

Silence is golden...I embrace SILENCE...✨️
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's interesting how our communication styles can impact our perception by others. It's great that you're finding ways to adapt and grow from these experiences. Keep embracing the principles of Stoicism and continue to build your strength.
"Better to trip with the feet than with the tongue." - Marcus Aurelius
What steps will you take to embrace the power of speaking less?
I embrace SILENCE
Silence is gold.
I was the person who used to speak less ,used to be a silent, shy girl , but now i dont know why ,i dont know what happened to me 😌, I'm not able to control my words from years ,i hurt people sometimes ,got hyper and anxious 😢, i dont know why this silent girl turned out to be a talkative girl 🥺😌😌 , i want to be who i was an year ago who used to speak less ,who used to appreciate silence , and im working on myself 🙂🙃
greetings from key west 😊
Thank you universe for having made me that way 🙂
I embrace silence. Thank you for the insightful video on this. It resonates with how I respond to my significant other, who is the mother of my only child, with her talking more while I often silently listen.
I LOVE SILENCE & SOLITUDE
Thank you man it helps me a lot.

Well said!

I love the idea of intentially pausing from the "dance with dialogue" - especially valuable to one who works in a high pressure law firm.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts
I embrace silence.🙏🏽
Beautiful the reach of this knowledge doesnt only reflect your personal feelings but the fundamentals of wisdom as well just as the bible states of all who wish to heal so your intentions honor those reflective catalogs less but meaning towards the same propisitions for what it means to have mercy on yourself
I embrace the stoic silence
Working on it - it's the writer in me - and the teacher. I am mainly quiet except when I believe someone is trustworthy. I have found out the hard way that people can pretend to be trustworthy - just to figure out your weak areas. I have cut back on trusting and therefore cut back on talking. I keep working on it. A little bell goes off in my head now when I find myself about to share when I should not share. My mother told me when I was a little girl that talking and trusting were my main problems. Thought before speech.
Beautifully expressed.
The importance of quality over quantity in communication is highlighted, advocating for thoughtful and intentional speech.
I embrace silence. ❤
Grand Rising, thank u 👍👍.

Silence is the respite of the strong and confident - from the book “Ego is the Enemy”.

Silence is golden - golden ..
Excellent video, I look Forward to more.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Briljante Video!
Very useful. Thanks 🎉
Thank you for sharing your observation on Law #4. It's always interesting to see historical examples of the power of saying less.
Watching all of these videos of yours, I realize I have always been Stoic.
I embrace silence as a way to grow my mind resilience
I embrace silence!
I embrace silence ❣️
I embrace silence. This is the best way to live happily in a noisy world .
I embrace silence....💪
I embrace silence 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼❤️
Im learning this lesson. My roommate likes to hear himself all the time. I aint entertisning his demand for attention by bring silent and ignoring his negativity
Interesting, I had not considered weaponising silence. It makes a lot of sense. It can also be used with compassion. Staying silent allows others to reflect on what they have said. It goes both ways i can see. I will make more effort to learn more about this. I am interested in learning more about philosophy and am glad to be here. I think i will listen to a podcast a day on philosophy.
Silence it's peace 🕊️ peaceful ❤🎉
I really want this and I’m all for.the stoic way of life,we’re nothing is everything
