(There were lots of both conventional and experimental weapons deployed in attempts to destroy the Remagen bridge after the 1st army took it by surprise and the demo charges failed partially, countered by the largest concentration of AA deployed in WW2 and several new detection systems. I think that'd make for an interesting soundscape despite being yet another WW2 song.)

They took down all of the old black and white photos of the history of the base, and had the same sort of pictures removed from the different unit HQ buildings. The reason? Because they don't represent today's "diversity". They're following up with mandatory training that is teaching troopers that everything in the past was racist and bigoted.
They're straight up destroying our base's honorable history and heritage because it doesn't fit into their ideological narrative. I've talked to other NCOs at other bases and found out they're doing the same everywhere.
It's both a power play, because they have the ability to do it, and a play at more power, because the destruction of heritage leaves a people more vulnerable to future power plays. It's a move that results in layers of consequences. They did it there, they're doing it here.

My father had his Huey shot out from under him in Nicaragua. He had to make it back through the jungle with the wounded gunner while only having a half melted M-16 and two spare mags. Without help, because everyone saw his Huey fireball into the jungle and just assumed everyone died in the crash. But the people who shot him down knew there was at least one survivor because of their footprints in the mud away from the crash site.
It took me until I was 17 before I ever even heard about it. He never talked about it very much. Those are all the details I have. I wonder what song would have been good to go with that?
I hope this is the good version of the song.
