Hola amigos, its great to have you back in CDMX. Just south of UNAM, about 5-10mins by Metrobus is Piramide de Cuicuilco. It’s estimated to be the oldest surviving archeological site in the Valley of Mexico built around 900 B.C., 2000 plus yrs before the Aztecs arrived!! You just have to take the Insurgentes Metrobus line (line 1) and get off at Villa Olimpica Station. Hope you can visit it! Greetings and great video as always!

Hahaha! The finger thing is from an old Mexican TV show from the 60s where one of the characters would move his finger like that to indicate that that is what he wanted or was referring to. It usually went accompanied by the phrase "eso, eso, eso", "that's it, that's it, that's it." The show was really popular and the gesture just caught on among most Mexicans like a catchphrase and it stuck. Lol
Gilberto is right, i would like to add that "Chavo del 8" the show was not only extremely popular in Mexico but in USA amongst latinos, and all of latin America. i am almost certain there is no latin American who does not know el Chavo del 8 even today

I have live in Canada for more than 15 years, my parents live in Houston Texas, my sister and my brother live in Mexico, the problem is how far they live, but I know that after almost 5 hours of flight I will be able to see them, every year I flight twice Texas and twice to Mexico, the family means a lot to Mexicans, even though we are on the other side of the world, we will always meet and have the big parties, greetings Goya and Guera !!!

A comment on your advice to ask for directionality in Mexico City, when I was around 16 years old, a long time ago, I went to the Centro with two friends to buy some things we needed, well, we got what we went to get and I needed some parts for my bicycle, we were tired and couldn't find a bicycle shop, we were in front of a store that we knew that sell fishing and camping gear, so I turned to my buddys and told them I'll ask here for a bicycle shop... you can imagen what my nice buddies told me about my idea... Well, I went in and followed by my supporting party... and asked the guy in the counter for a bicycle shop, he answered, hold on, he asked an other guy behind the counter for a bicycle shop, and he said it is around the corner, my nephew came with me to the shop a few days ago, he was also looking for bicycle parts and he told me he found a "small shop that has every thing and very good prices. My buddies jaws dropped to the floor. The shop was exactly what was described and I got what I needed. From that day on my loving buddies were telling every one at school that needed to get some weird thing for a school project: As him, he'll ask someone on the beauty salon and he'll find out you where to get it. Hahaha!

You two are so much fun! I’ve been binge-watching your videos the last few days, and now I want to go back to Mexico so badly! Your comment about something being different from the Spanish you learned in high school reminded me of the first time I was in Mexico City. My friends and I were at a restaurant and I wanted butter for my bread, so I asked the waitress for some manteca, which I remembered very clearly as being butter from my H.S. Spanish (mind you, my high school years were over 50 years ago, but I was first in Mexico only 5 years after that). The waitress looked at me in extreme shock and made me wonder if I had just said a very dirty word. Finally, after some conversation I learned that butter is mantequilla, and manteca is LARD. No wonder she looked grossed out! I also used a lot of “sign language”, as in acting out things I didn’t know the word for, but, hey, it usually worked and it was a lot of fun. You two are bringing back some wonderful memories for me. Thanks for all your great videos.
Very good compilation of expressions. Wera is ok when she sais tha the crucial intonation is en the "Eh!" for being a little bit sarcastic. And it is true that Chillangos (we) are alwasys a little bit pressed and sometimes wer are more "rude"... But that s true for the most of great cities: Parisians are like that, NYorkers are like that... But you re right again when you said that also among the great cities, CdMx is not so rude, and people are ready to help. Thank your for loving this city. I don’t usually say “oye joven” because my servers are usually older than me lol. And when you say “joven” you’re saying young person or youngster. I just say “¡desculpe!” or “¡oiga!” Which is more neutral.
I think the "oiga joven" is more common in central Mexico . Because in northern Mexico, people tend to just say "oiga amigo", "oiga compa/camarada", or just "oiga" or "disculpe". Even in Guadalajara I've rarely heard people say: "oiga joven."
"Ahorita" is the diminutive of "ahora" ("now") and it is a slang expression in many Latin-american countries meaning "right now" and in Mexico sometimes it is a polite way or dismissive way to say "hold on" or "eventually" . The expression in proper Spanish for "right now" is "ahora mismo".

Just a note, to call the waiter in Mexico (or any other employee) we don’t use the informal “tu” mode saying “oye joven” like you did (4:49) we usually use the more formal “usted” mode by saying “oiga joven”. Just as the waiters will always use usted, too, when they address us customers. Also, the “eh” at the end of the phrase does mean sarcasm, just like the huh in american english often does.
I love your channel because for me you guys have the perfect English pronunciation, not too fast, not too slow, just both perfect in your pronunciation, you could be the perfect English teachers in México and no doubt you guys could get inmediatelly a job in schools there, half time or full time and well paid, even in language centers just for a short period of time, I remember I had an English teacher in my Career in Mexico years ago that she couldn’t understand an Spanish word, she was like 17 years old earning a very good salary, she was fun and the best of all, students could learn the real English accent, if you guys some day plan to establish in one place, I think teaching English would be perfect for you and Mexican students, the good thing here is that you already know some Spanish, you should give it a try, I think it’d be fun💖

Hello guys, a very funny video, and the touching final part where you miss your lovedones, that's me now, it's funny we moved from Mexico a mounth ago, quite curious to Denton TX, near your US home, and I am at the oposite side of the coin, all it's a highway far, not people to ask directions for, etc. An adaptation period for me and my family, enjoy Mexico and I'll enjoy TX, cómanse unos ricos elotes por mi, there is no such a delicious thing like that here!! Loved it! I totally relate to everything you said about the hardest thing when you move to another country, culture: being faraway from family. For me it’s been a little over 18 years since we came to live in Canada. My daughter was born a year after so she’s 17 so her dream is to go to Mexico City and live there for at least a year so she’s looking into University programs with an exchange option.
I think that the gesture we made with the hand when we say "thank you" or "no, thanks", is the same, it hasn't a different inclination. Also when somebody is rude we address to him not polite, but more polite. Because we know that that will angry more that person. By the way "ahorita" is more like "I will do whenever I want to do it".

"Con permiso" also means "I´m going" in or "I´m going out", I can use it in a crowded elevator or when leaving a group of people.
People in Mexico City and all around Mexico City, are serius sometimes I don’t get what they say either. I have family there but it’s funny how they talk lol.

I totally relate to everything you said about the hardest thing when you move to another country, culture: being faraway from family. For me it’s been a little over 18 years since we came to live in Canada. My daughter was born a year after so she’s 17 so her dream is to go to Mexico City and live there for at least a year so she’s looking into University programs with an exchange option.
I think that the gesture we made with the hand when we say "thank you" or "no, thanks", is the same, it hasn't a different inclination. Also when somebody is rude we address to him not polite, but more polite. Because we know that that will angry more that person. By the way "ahorita" is more like "I will do whenever I want to do it".
