    Hi, I am a 57yr. young woman. I've waited for my man to fix our door for a year......
    I just watched your video and I am going to do it myself!! Thankyou for making such easy to follow instructions.
    I've fixed my truck, his car, and I thank folks like you who are gracious and share knowledge.
    Ill let you know how it goes.....here's to women carpenters! Especially us 'mature' gals...who still don't wait for someone to do what needs to be done.
    Thank you again, Georgia R.

    Hiya Dustin!! It looks like you have a fan base of female DIYers. I just subscribed. It is very rare a week goes by where I don't complete some traditional man job. Facts are, it is too expensive to pay for this work, so as my dad used to say, "has to can do." Last week I set a toilet and this week put in the first of three ceiling fans with a weird switch back wiring set up that gave me the heebe-jeebies. Today I'm installing the hinge side of a door jam that was kicked in. I've been collecting measurements and pieces to finish for a few months now. Thanks to you and other UA-cam helpers, this kind of thing can be done by this 58 year old home mender. You are very appreciated and it was good to see that the nail gun will hold pressure without being connected to the compressor when I go over to the house for these pieces; yay. I'm making a parts list from your video. Today is the day for this door repair... wish me luck!

      @@homemend as an update, I did my buddies front door today. This exact same fix step by step. And it worked perfectly. Two packs shims, leg board, stop mold, screws, nails and spade bit. And weather stripes, 100 bucks. And a six pack. 4 hrs with shopping and a good time. Thank you. His estimate was a whole fromt door replacement at 4500 bucks. We were gentle during demo and checked levels and door shutting, every step. And this video walked us thru it. Thank you.

    My wife and I bought a house that used to be a rental property and we're slowly fixing everything that the landlord let go or fixed in really cheap and crappy ways. We don't have a ton of money on hand to pay for other people to come in and do home repairs, and your channel has been really helpful, this video especially. This is one of those projects that's been really daunting for me since it seems so easy to mess up, and having you walk through it so clearly has eased a ton of my anxiety about it. Thank you!

    Hi Dustin, The firemen were called to a smoke alarm in an apartment and broke the lock side of the door like in your video(s). The tenants hired some "journeyman" from their work. They repaired it by cutting off 4 feet by 3 inches of the jamb and replaced it with a piece of 5/8" plywood? The job doesn't look very professional. I can't secure properly a jimmy deadbolt sideways with screws in through the plies! Your videos show how to do it right, permanently. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make excellent educational videos.

    I have a width of 5-1/4 but the closest I can find is 6 inch board. All the pre-hung and replacement jams are 4-1/2 now. It’s an early 70’s home. What do you suggest

    • @homemend
      @homemend  5 місяців тому

      Great question RB. If I’m understanding it correctly, you need a 5 1/4 inch width? When you buy a one by six it’s not actually 6 inches wide, it’s three-quarter inches thick by 5 1/4 inches wide. Hope this helps.

    Is there a jamb-side template for routing hinges and the striker thingy? I know they have them to use on the door slabs so. I assume there is one for jambs…right?

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 роки тому

      Hey Anthony doors vary on hinge spacing and hinge size. Usually when it’s into the hinge side, I will replace the whole door jam just because it produces a better product and trying to replace the inside is labor-intensive. I hope this helps

    • @homemend
      @homemend  Рік тому

      Thank you joyful! The hinge side is a little tougher. After re-creating the jamb you would need to trace the hinges and router them out. If it’s not damaged you may consider a split jam door. I hope this helps

      Thank you Steven, paslode has always been my favorite and yes for everything it’s 400 in the store. I recently found this one on marketplace. A guy was selling it for $150, it looked brand new. A guy bought it for a trim job at his house did the job and then it’s been sitting in his garage for 17 years LOL it needed a little maintenance but after I dropped it off at the shop he did what he needed to do in oiled it up and it is now good as new.Oh and it definitely pays for itself quickly. After you scored the edge lines for the strike plate did you then chisel out the thickness of the plate so it sits flush with the jamb? Seems that would be insanely hard to get correct.

      Hey Rick yes sir you can just trace the catch on there and then you just chisel out the thickness of the catch So it fits flush right in there. You got this

Door handle baby proofing should go on the outside of the door not the inside 😂 then with this video I learned how to replace the piece of door jam I broke in order to get my 1.5 yesr old out of my room because my silly goose self put the door handle baby proofing contraption on the inside of the door and he locked himself in and my windows were locked so I had no choice but to bust in the door 😂 thanks for the very informative video 🙂 😀 😅

    I have to keep my door locked to keep my son out of my room. I locked the keys in and had to destroy the jamb strip which now has dried wood glue on it. How would you recommend I get the glue off and just sand down and put a new strip on? What tools will get that glue off? Where can I get the right size jamb strip for the door? Thanks so much.

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 роки тому

      Hey Katie. I would just use a painters tool, scraper to get the glue off sanded down and then put a new “stop” on Home Depot sells a few different styles, if you have trouble just take a piece down and match it up. Also if you can’t find any jamb material a one by five will also work. You got this
