Fitz Roy Sunrise Attempts | Poincenot Base Camp Day Hikes

  • I set up camp at Poincenot Base Camp and do a few day hikes from there while I wait for good weather to see Fitz Roy at sunrise. The weather is really hit and miss every day with a few heavier rain days keeping me trapped in my tent. I also struggle with some sort of stomach bug that leaves me feeling nauseous the entire time I am there.
After my fourth attempt at seeing Fitz Roy at sunrise I hike back down into town in hopes of finding an available hostel bed before my next big trek starting in a few days.
If you're one of my regular viewers please comment below and let me know what you think of my recent change in format where I now create longer videos showing a trail from start to finish rather than splitting it into sections.

    Loved this!!!!
There are so many times that I wished I had spent more time researching before going out for my photos. Or that I had time to spare to wait just that little bit longer. At the end of the day, I’ll tell myself it just wasn’t meant to be in that moment. It has made me love those rare and fleeting glances at beauty that I do find all the more.

Your channel deserves so many more subscribers!!!
You have a knack for getting yourself into tough situations! I am sure you don't seek them out on purpose, but the way you handle adversity is actually one of the most fun aspects of your videos. The first video I watched was when you failed to summit Freemont in the Winds and your tent almost blew away -- I've been hooked ever since.
You may enjoy reading On the Edge by Alison Levine (who got oh-so-close on her first Everest summit leading an all-women team, and eventually completed the seven summits plus the two poles). There's a fascinating chapter in her book called "the weakest link" about how to handle situations that suck with grace. I think you've already mastered the art!
And the new format is great, IMHO.

Thank you so much for saying all of that. It really made me smile today. In fact it has given me a little smile throughout the day when I remember it.
Sometimes it's hard to spend hours on videos only to watch my channel grow so slowly, but I am holding onto hope that people will continue to discover my videos over time 😁 and hey if you know anyone who might enjoy my videos please send them to my page 😊🙏
Also I haven't read that but it sounds absolutely incredible and inspiring! I'll have to add that to my list of books to check out!
aaaand lastly, I'm glad you like the new format. I've been enjoying it as well, it gives the videos a sense of completion for me. Thanks for taking the time to let me know 😁

Also, the shots/views in this video are incredible. I’m sure not getting to see Fitz Roy at sunrise after 4 attempts must have REALLY been sucky, but for the people watching, we didn’t lack beautiful views at all with this video!

Thanks! Yeah it was absolutely rough not seeing the sunrise after so many attempts 😂 but thats all part of the adventure. I'm glad you still enjoyed the shots. I tried to limit how much I showed of the sunrise attempts because it was obviously dark and cloudy so the shots weren't too pretty. But the moments when the sky was actually clear that place was incredible!! I'm excited for more of the videos coming up that show just how amazing that place was.

I know 😫 It's always so hard to figure out what to do in those moments. I try to lower the volume and just make sure the subtitles are accurate but I can't really edit out the harsh wind sounds. I already carry pounds and pounds of extra tech gear when backpacking so it's hard to imagine bringing anything else even if it might potentially help with the sound. But maybe some day if my channel ever takes off I can hire a sound editor to help 😂
