The Kawai (Teisco) S-100F is a great little monophonic analog synth. It only has 1 VCO, but lowpass and highpass filters and some interesting modulation routings! Although it's limited, the basic sound is excellent. It reminds me a bit of the ARP 2600. The VCO has a huge range - very low and very high frequencies are possible. Built like a tank, best quality made in Japan, high quality hardware, easy to repair.
I played the Kawai S-100F with delay effects from Korg SDD-3000 (right channel only). On the left channel you can hear the synth dry. - Наука та технологія
Massive, classic and Vince Clarke΄;s first synth ever
A hidden gem. I've had one for years and it has the most incredible sweet spots, especially for bass lines.
Welcome back
Sounds juicy 👍
Vince Clarke's first synth!
#JonzunCrew maybe also
I sold mine, luckily I was able to buy one back soon for little. I've had this one for eight years now and it will never leave. Amazing synthesizer !!
(Retro-fitted with Kenton CV/Gate/Filter 😃).
Long time no sound!
Very nice - its simplicity is its strength. I have a Teisco S100-P from the same year which has many similarities in tone generation. The licensed ARP keybed is a joy for expressive playing...
Thanks for posting a new video. Your synth videos are my favorite above all others.
thank you :-)
A triumphant return!
Sounds fantastic! Super cool demo!
Nice demo. I have one too. Vince Clarke's first synth apparently and he referred to it as "crap", I read. But it's not. Great little synth, very sweet sounding.
Vince has always had a tendency to be a bit fickle about what he likes. I think he means what he says when he says it, but he has often changed his mind when he learns something new. In the case of the Kawai 100F, at the time I've heard/read that he was frustrated that it had control inputs but wouldn't work with either the ARP or Roland MC-4 sequencers. He was also learning how to use Daniel Miller's ARP 2600 semi-modular synth while producing Depeche Mode's first album with him, so especially in terms of modulation possibilities, the 100F must have seemed quite pathetic in comparison. Additionally, Vince himself has said that when he and Daniel opened up the 100F, nothing was even connected to the control inputs! I don't know what to make of that, as Kawai is a legitimate company. He thought this was deceptive and a rip-off. Maybe he bought his 100F used, and someone had mucked around with it, or a mistake had been made at the factory. Who knows?
Now, Vince has expressed his appreciation for some relatively basic synths just for their sound, such as the Sequential Pro-One and Roland SH-1 and Juno-60, and he uses a Yamaha CS-10 (similar to Martin Gore's CS-5) in his current work, so we still don't have an explanation for why he didn't like the 100F, since pretty much everyone agrees that it sounds good, even fantastic. Maybe he was just frustrated with it at the time for other reasons, which is all I can think of.
By the way, just to show how everyone is different, for a long time Vince said that he didn't like the Jupiter-8 much because it didn't seem all that capable to him. In contrast, I took to that synth (actually a VST thereof) like a fish takes to water--from the very start, I could get great sounds out of it without trying hard. It took me much longer to learn how to effectively use the Minimoog, Prophet-5, and even the Juno-60, for example, and most people rave about those. But the Jupiter-8 just "speaks" to me. In contrast, it sure didn't impress Vince at first, although I think he might have changed his mind at some point, because it's still in his studio 30+ years later, and he has a tendency to sell anything he doesn't actually like and use.
Welcome back!
That’s a good intro dude, intros like these with the sound of the feature synth, make the videos more interesting 😊
👍👍👍very goo.
nice fingerd portamento.
and cross modulation.
it sounds like every "stinger" sound effect from every old japanese tv show was made on this thing.
As usual you make it sound top notch! This one also looks great - outstanding design! Pity it's so pricey.
And yes - welcome back!
Ooh, what a lovely sound!
Very satisfying sounds
Thanks, nice demo! I like the fx channel splitting.
Cool sound! 👍🏼
Synth by Vince Clark in early 80`s
Damn this sounds amazing for one VCO
Very Nice Video. 🙋♂️🎹
Crazy for synth funk
I remember from the unit I had ( the Kawai version with a Kenton kit ) it was a bit Arp ish .
two legends (debuglive) came back at the same day, what are the odds
Really nice demo! 100f's just got up 1k in value.
Depeche “Speak & Spell” vibes all over this
This is for me one of the best mono synth ever. And I'm serious !
Thanks!
😍
Dope
Tolles Video! 🙂 I assume the 110F would be the better (more flexible) option in direct comparison...? 🤔
Danke! Don't know, never had the 100F
I traded one back then for a beer. I will never part with it.
The best ever made
Yum.
was this Vince Clarkes first synth?
Yes, he had the Kawai-branded 100F, like the one in this video.
wat about a comparison with a yamaha cs-5? how do they stack up?
The Yamaha 12dB multimode filter sounds completely different.
Space 🪐🚀music!
How does this compare to the Kawai/Teisco 100P?
The 100P is a preset synth, its not comparable.
Vince Clarke's first girlfriend.
😨
Could be Polyphonic , but Is monophonic
