Bless her, I feared Marie might cry because of the amount of effort she had put into making the Gingerbread chapel & was falling apart around her. There was that moment when I thought she might!! It's okay Marie...I hope you will show us the final results! 🇺🇸
@@janegendreau6595 I did too! But she tried to take the moment and make it into being ridiculous and how life can be at times. I think it did make her feel like crying though, at first. She worked hard at it, and all was going perfectly! We know thgins liek this can happen and hope they do not, as it is hard to do what she has so far.
Gingerbread houses are no joke, and notoriously fiddly and brittle. She’ll figure it out though, and when in doubt glue cardboard behind the gingerbread and slap it together. Royal icing and tons of it, and candy to cover any cracks. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! 💕

You could always hang the painting on the back of the loo in the winter salon. It might be nice to look at a royal figure while sitting on the throne 😂❤️🇨🇦
It always makes me sad whenever a woman apologize for not having make up on. You look beautiful with or without makeup so please don't apologize for not doing anything wrong. 😊
I cried out loud. “ oh, no Marie” when the first one broke, then I’m ashamed to say I started laughing hysterically when they all started breaking,…..forgive me😂😂. I’ve never made a gingerbread house so , how very dare I .😂😂
Having made my 1st gingerbread ho7se ( from a kit) last weekend, the 1 st thing I did was invite a friend to assist, highly recommend another pair of hands. Then refrigerate overnight to le5 it set, before decorating 😂 Bon Chance Marie 😊
I'm glad Marie laughed and didn't cry over the broken gingerbread house...The painting looks um, well, like a conversation piece...lots of fun after a few cocktails for sure!
I am going through the 4th post-operative period on my right leg and these videos are the joy of my day, I appreciate them so much, their joy is contagious! May God bless you! Someday I'll see them! From Argentina with love
Marie, we have all had architectural crises with gingerbread houses. I learned to bake each part twice. I was laughing so hard but it was WITH you, not at you. 😂❤️
Marie! You need to use LOTS of royal icing, particularly in the inside corners of the walls of a gingerbread structure. An extra pair of hands help too.
Marie, you are so loved. Mistakes and fumbles happen. You spend all year creating magical dinners, foodies for all parts of the day. I can't even manage to make anything close to serviceable, it's a miss repeatedly. So big hugs from this Crazy Montréal born Canadian, living way up here in Finland. Johannesz-Poul Haukkavaara
Oh Marie! I am glad you laughed when it kept breaking and I hope you just glued it all together because you can put candies in all the broken spots and hide them just fine. It is a beautiful chapel. And remember how the chapel looked and how putting new paint and gluing the real chapel back together and it looks fabulous! Think of the art of gluing broken pottery back together with gold and making it look more beautiful. And Phillip, I have to agree with Stephanie. The painting kind of leaves me speechless!
In the late 80’s, there was a fabulous drag queen venue in Chicago called the Baton Club (interpret as you wish). That portrait reminds me SO MUCH of one of the performers - who, btw, could do a pretty spot-on Cher impression.
Use a stack of books and surround it to prop it together. Also, I always use dehydrated powder egg whites for safety for children. Also I think cream of tartar helps with the icing glue.
The poor little man wasn't blessed with good looks, so it's a blessing that he came from royalty. Marie, get some books or small boxes and prop the repaired pieces against them for stability while you ice them together, then leave them to dry. I've been there with this headache when making many of them.
Stephanie you could always hang the painting in the wine room. It would minimize your viewing time as you pop in to grab a bottle and then pop out.🤣🤣🤣🤣😝
Another chateau channel had a similar experience with gingerbread construction. Planning ahead for falling walls seems to be the lesson of this Christmas season. Always so good to see you all.
Oh gosh, you two. I am in the process of wallpapering my bathroom and stopped to watch and take a break... I REALLY needed that laugh! I almost spit out my tea when I saw the painting 😅. I understand why you felt sorry for him, and besides all of his issues, he is a great item from history. Great conversation starter. Can we have the gingerbread recipes??? I think you did such a great job!!
I actually gave ashout out of gratitude that this is not in my home …. No oil painting 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Nick you summed it up perfectly sending you all love health and happiness from Dubai
💗Marie, Hope you'll forgive a Monday morning quarterback as we say in the states, but a double batch of gingerbread (one can never have too much) with a thicker rollout will help. And handling the slabs like they are angel wings as well, will do the trick. Putting in the stained glass candy weakens the walls but you CAN do it! C'mon, try once again please! 💗
Marie needs to go with you all on the next outing. I love her and she is always left behind and left to cook and she needs a break too. Don't listen to them laughing at your painting Philip because it's going to turn out to be a gem dandy of a jewel after the frame is fixed and the painting is cleaned I just know it. Love from South Louisiana, USA!
Well Stephanie, I agree with you about the painting! Marie….i am sorry your gingerbread house had an issue. That’s why I gave up making them! All of you had us laughing!
Well Marie, I could never get a gingerbread house to work in my favor either. Which is a poor reflection on me, because I probably attempted hundreds working with kids, seniors and with the disabled my entire life. NOT one worked well! LOL 😂 At least there was a snack to eat after the disaster. 😁 I kind of like the painting, simply because It seems to hold a story and the sitter courageously welcomed a portrait of himself. I always knew I liked your aunt, no wonder we are both December babies. No one celebrates with me, so it was nice to see her celebration. Mine was on the 11th.
Stephanie, I think you may have a skin condition called “rosacea”, as I do. It’s treatable with laser therapy. Maybe see a dermatologist and check it out, because it does worsen over time of untreated.
I FEEL for Marie - very much! And I love the painting - such a history, such good stories. I look forward to a whole episode where you go to his castles and tell us more details about that royal person.
I’ve made over a dozen gingerbread houses. Looks like your pieces might need to be thicker. I use granulated sugar that I melt on the stove top for glue. Good luck!
I love the painting- it’s already started dialog😂 Marie the gingerbread pieces were gorgeous! You needed an extra pair of hands. Those windows for the chapel were amazing! Another wonderful vlog!
Maree - I’m feeling for you. Gingerbread houses are not easy! Glue the cracked pieces together with the icing, have large cans of food to hand to prop up the pieces as you glue them together with the icing and hold then in place until it dries and cover it all in icing and sweets. It’ll be fine! Or decorate all the pieces and say it’s a deconstructed gingerbread house - deconstructed desserts are very cool
As someone who has filled his own home with an array of oddly-faed instant relatives, I find the small val portrait fetching. Its age alone is compelling. On another subject--how is it that all of you are so thin and fit the way you eat and eat and eat. Here I am a fat American and hardly ever get the chance to enjoy the rich food you LaLanders pile upon your tables! Well done. I wish I had your genes.
Marie next time put stacks of books to hold the two walls while cementing them together. Let dry, then go at it again with another wall and books for stability. The obese royalty painting should hang behind a door in one of the out buildings.😂

Marie, I can show you how to assemble a large gingerbread house/chapel. My husband is a Master of it. The roof should be tied together with strings in two holes, pre-baked. The walls go up first, then the roof.

Stephanie, I have an answer for what you should do with that god-awful picture. Put it in the chicken coop so they have somebody watching after them. Lol.
Even if it is ugly it is still a 18th century painting that has survived to now because someone cared about it. Putting it in a chicken coop would destroy it and be an unpardonable act of vandalism

Marie, you have to have something heavy for the gingerbread house pieces to lean against when you’re glueing them together so they won’t fall 😊
Or just give up and use hot glue - nothing edible
