Animation: How a Glacier Melts

  • Опубліковано 4 лис 2020
  • When warm summer air melts the surface of a glacier, the meltwater bores holes down through the ice. It makes its way all the way down to the bottom of the glacier where it runs between the ice and the glacier bed, and eventually shoots out in a plume at the glacier base and into the surrounding ocean.
    The meltwater plume is lighter than the surrounding ocean water because it doesn't contain salt. So it rises toward the surface, mixing the warm ocean water upward in the process. The warm water then rubs up against the bottom of the glacier, causing even more of the glacier to melt. This often leads to calving - ice cracking and breaking off into large ice chunks (icebergs) - at the front end, or terminus of the glacier.

      Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.

      @@doxielain2231 or the earth is alive.. have you ever watered your yard and the grass can not absorb any more? What if you can’t shut it off but your neighbors had their water shut off and all their yard and trees and flowers were dying? Your hose wasn’t long enough but you knew how to extend a hose .. it wouldn’t take long have done it before.
      Now what if you came upon a group of people all standing around complaining of the neighbors dead yard. Then complaining how much water was flowing down the street. Eventually the intersection is gonna flood they said if they can’t get the water to stop. You are a bit perplexed about the water not being able to be shut off but the obviousness of applying that fresh water to where it was needed until then was baffling. As you looked around you were informed other neighbors were sick most likely due to the lack of fresh water in their home. Others had no water for cooking or hygiene… all of these places could benefit from the water running down the street… this groups main concern, attention and resources went to stopping the flow of fresh water.
      … it’s hard to say anything or hear anything they say… sometimes I hear about cost to buy another hose .. everyone agrees not an option and it’s back to .. gotta stop water..

    All of Greenlands glaciers are growing.
    Greenlands ice sheet is gaining more ice in the winter than it is losing in the summer.
    Greenland is breaking alltime low temperatures each winter.
    Sea ice ALLWAYS MELTS during the spring.
    Everybody who know anything about arctic sea ice coverage knows that.
    Sea ice around Greenland allways averages the same coverage.
    Of course it varies from year to year.
    If you have any scientific understanding of atmospheric physics, you would understand that.
    The Danish meteorological society has a website explaining Greenland's weather on a daily basis.
    I tried to post their link but...
    NASA deleted my comment.
    Why wouldn't NASA want you to learn more about Greenland?
    Aren't they in charge of space exploration?

      Compared to 1960 we are majorly low on the ice sheet
      Small variation are different

    • @TheErik249
      @TheErik249 8 місяців тому

      @vibhav6551
      NASA and NOAA didn't start attempting to scan ice thickness and coverage until 1981.
      At the time of the Vostok ice core and Geenland ice cores experiment, Greenland was first accurately measured at around 9800 feet.
      Its ice margin has cycled back and forth slightly.
      From the N60th parallel to the N80th parallel, there are no consistent warm days. There is increased solar radiation from April until October.
      From October to April, there is minimal to none.
      Heat doesn't melt ice at the poles.
      The sun does.
      This is one of the very first and biggest mistakes that climate change conspiracy theorists make when they attempt to fearmonger the arctic and antarctic ice.
      Take a flight to Nuuk.
      Hire a guide to take you to the ice margin 65 miles to the east.
      You will never forget what you will see.
      It is amazing.
      It rises off into the distance until it touches the sky.
      That ice isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
      To melt the Greenland ice cap Earth would have to tilt the northern hemisphere toward the sun at 23.5 and continue with a circular orbit for about 8000 years.

    • @andrewberg146
      @andrewberg146 Рік тому

      As the front of the glacier melts away, the glacier behind it has less resistance to flow, so the ice flows faster down toward the water. Either a new equilibrium will be reached with a faster ice flow and melting rate, or your scenario with the glacier melting inland. Either scenario results in greater melting though.

That will not happen in the foreseeable future, but it hardly takes the entire loss of an ice sheet to affect population centers worldwide. Or The simple answer is no. The whole world will never be underwater. But our coastlines would be very different. If all the ice covering Antarctica , Greenland, and in mountain glaciers around the world were to melt, sea level would rise about 70 meters (230 feet

    As the climate heads into greater extremes globally, how can we best deal with future climate crises?
    The short answer is that we cannot deal with them unless we take care of nature's inner balance.
    We live in a tightly-closed and interdependent system in which everything boomerangs back to us. While living in such a system, we need to reconsider what we want and think, and how we treat each other, because our human connections are the primary influence on how nature responds to us.
    It is common to think that climate is dependent on factors outside of us-whether it be balances between heat and cold in the environment, or the effects of various kinds of pollution we emit-because we lack a complete picture of how our attitudes to each other bring about the strongest responses from nature toward us.
    No creature distorts nature the way that we people do. And it is not simply a matter of switching to renewable energy sources, electric cars and the like; it is a matter of how we relate to each other.
    If we truly wish to witness more balance throughout nature and not have to deal with all kinds of cold waves and other natural disasters, then similarly to how we have electricity, water and gas meters in our homes, we should also have meters that count how much evil we emit into the world from our negative attitudes to each other. What I mean is that if we could feel the extent to which we emit negative forces into the world, which negatively ricochet back to us, then we would wish to change this negative driver within us. We would want to switch it to a drive that makes our human connections positive, and which harmonizes us with nature.
    In simple terms, when we get up in the morning, we should first and foremost consider what we need to do in order for all people to have it good. Developing such an attitude is not so simple, yet we will need to seriously work on it as we head into the future. A life of increasing blows from nature or a life of peace and harmony depends on the extent to which we impact a shift in our attitudes to each other-from negative to positive.

    If the cold water is still up there, the ice will keep warming and warming. Even if the salt water catches to go up there, the ice will turn it into cold water.

      Greenland is experiencing record LOWS, yes you saw that correctly, record LOW temperatures so that ice sheet is expanding. And as it normally does, the spring warmer temps melts some of the ice causing caving. It's a natural thing.
