    Hi Queen! Great video 🌟. Just a fyi: if you ever want to go from scratch, you can buy tamarind, plantains, and palm leaves-roast them to black but not burned in the oven, and toss in a good blender to make the powder. I'm in Florida so it might not be easily accessible to palm leaves, but the other stuff you should be able to find in Walmart or any international market. Be well 🌹

      Yes, you are so right. I like the simplicity and time saving of having the mixture ready. I may try the true from scratch method someday when my kids are older and I have a bit more time. :) Thank you for watching Doll.

    The main ingredient in african black soap is potash which is almost the same as caustic soda it's just more expensive and more of an exfoliate.
    You can imitate, and, in my opinion improve on this soap by just using caustic soda,powdered coal,black powdered clay,any brown clay and Shay butter.

    nice try, but truth is the african black soap has no lye in it, it is a mixture of plantain peel ash and cocoa pod ash that serves as lye.. i am from ghana where this soap is made but living in germany now and i miss the sweet citronella smell it has

      It actually does contain lye as the ingredients used in producing the ash are potassium rich, thats why the liquid made from these ashes are high in potassium lye

    • @HarrisPilton789
      @HarrisPilton789 8 років тому +4

      An alkaline substance is required to make soap. Ash takes the place of lye in traditional African black soap.

    I like that you didn't uses a crock pot. I do & I get a bubbling up affect after awhile (it can be very messy). You got me thinking I don't need to. Thoughts? I have never made this soap, but my method is the same as yours.

    • @brandijacksonwellness
      @brandijacksonwellness  8 років тому

      I think it's faster in cleaner minus the crock pot. However, the beauty of using a crock pot is that the soap is essentially ready for use sooner right? I like the cold process method and don't mind waiting. I'm going to start a monthly rotation and then there will always be soap ready and soap curing. :)

    • @narrowgate4229
      @narrowgate4229 8 років тому

      Brandi Jackson Nice. Yes with the crock pot it sets up pretty fast. I made pawpaw soap ( with Coconut oil,Hemp Seed oil, & Pawpaw puree) some other essential oils too. So amazing! We have a local pawpaw festival where I live. It leaves your skin so soft! The lather felt almost like shaving cream! Rich & creamy!

    Thanks for a soap DIY. I have been thinking about doing this using several different ways but I have to ask, where can I buy lye without going some place online? What kind of store should I go to?
    Have you tried using aloe? If so, how did it work out?
    Also when I pour my soap into a container, I use small wax paper cups for molds and cut them the tall way, so they are easier to hold.
    thanks for the video.

    • @brandijacksonwellness

      +kEEpEr Grounds Awesome! These are excellent tips. You can go to a hardware store to find lye for soap making locally. Just be sure to verify that the lye is in powder form, not the stuff used for plumbing. I have not found lye at Michaels or Joanns but there is also likely to be local soap making suppliers, try to google your local city and soap making supplies and I bet you'll find some good leads.
      Never tried aloe for soap but I have been thinking about it. Thank you for sharing your tips too.

    Don't know what's in the powder but African black soap doesn't need additional lye added to it.
    Did you mix anything with the palm oil, it seems to have a gel like consistency?

    This is very nice and simple. Is the palm oil food grade or cosmetic grade? I am Ghanaian and I use palm oil for cooking sometimes but I wonder is it's the same type bought at the local African stores.

    I need help. I am a fist timer and I tried a crock pot black African soap recipe and I missed a step. I melted my palm oil and shea butter in the crock then added my own ash/ oil and began with my stick blender. I should of blended before adding ash. Now it is not setting up. Can I fix this? Maybe turn it into shampoo? Any suggestions?

    • @brandijacksonwellness
      @brandijacksonwellness  8 років тому

      Oh, I understand your question better now. Curing is a process for the soap to continue soaponification where all of the excess water evaporates to make the soap last longer instead of dissolving in water. If you want to make soap that can be used right away try Hot Process soap making, it doesn't need curing time. :)

    • @AraTheAqua
      @AraTheAqua 8 років тому +2

      Hi,
      Hot process soap does need some curing time, the water does need to evaporate from the soap, experts say give it 2-3 weeks. it depends on how much of a water discount you give, the less water, the less cure time, but HP soap also goes through a saponification process during and after it is put in the mold ( In some cases). I have always wanted to make a African black soap with wood ash! it would be so awesome to be able to see the real deal

    You know, if you want a diy on how to make black soap, and it is supposed to be from scratch, don't use African black soap powder. You are supposed to teach us how to make it, and not use powders
