The diesel shop i worked at had a 1998 chevy 3500 van with a 5.7l vortec in it. We always put 15w40 in it and it has over 300,000 miles on it now, and runs like a top.
I’m running rotella 15-40 in my avalanche and I noticed the dreaded lifter tick went away. I’m about to do an oil change this Monday and I’m putting in some delo 15-40. Just remember, just because it’s Diesel engine oil, doesn’t necessarily mean you can idle a gas engine like a Diesel engine. It just protects better than conventional oil but that’s it. I highly recommend throwing in some Lucas oil stabilizer especially in the summer months. During winter you wanna go with Mobil 1 10w-30 or something like that.
Diesel oil has more additives and stuff to help the engine, I recommend watching a video explaining Diesel engine oil first. I didn’t see many people have problems with it but I did it during the summer when it was 90° everyday and my Jeep had a problem, I put the recommended amount of oil 6 quarts and it seemed fine at first but then my Jeep started to run real hot and one time I went to check the oil and it was steaming out the dip stick, I changed the oil to Mobil one synthetic a day later and no longer had these issues. I believe it was the oil but I’m not 100% sure.
@@ericfernando1356 yes it is if it's dual rated. She'll isn't dual rated every other diesal motor oil is if it has the API sm sn stamp that's passenger car motor oil rated. Cj and ck are diesal motor rated
