- The fourth of the compilation of train videos covers the prolific and signature traction control system from Bombardier Transportation, the IGBT-VVVF based Bombardier MITRAC. They are used in a number of products, including Bombardier Movia Metro, Bombardier Flexity light rail vehicles, Bombardier Electrostar EMUs, Bombardier Innovia Metro and even the high-speed Bombardier Zefiro.
The timeline of this video goes back to 1998 when the IGBT-VVVF traction control technology has being introduced in RapidKL (then Putra LRT) new rolling stock, in chronological order to the more recent Adelaide Metro 4000 Series (A-City). Other rolling stock featured includes the London Underground S7 and S8, SBS Transit C951, Shanghai Metro, Guangzhou Metro, Adelaide Metro Glenelg Tram and more!

[Update on Incorrect Pitch]: An investigation found that the frame rate was exported too low, causing the lower pitch. The video editing software has limitations on the frame rates we are allowed to be exported. We managed some sort of a fix for future videos for now, but perhaps when we manage to afford to acquire an Adobe Premiere Pro license that would a long-term solution. Thank you for your patience!

I like R143 and R179 motors in NYC. They perfectly are part of the Bombardier MITRAC.
Too bad the R179s are defective and being fixed right now.

So the IGBT-VVVT system is being used on most metro trains and on suburban trains and high speed trains across the world that were manufactured by Bombardier, Siemens, CAF & other manufacturers. As well in the UK that Bombardier have built trains including the London Underground S-Stocks and 2009 Stocks, London Overground Class 378 & Class 710 and the DLR light rail stocks.
You should've added the Adtrains M4 (septa market frankford line) also has the bombardier MITRAC propulsion system.
I believe the dutch (R)(H)SG3 have these MITRAC and said inverters too.
Editors note: because SGBuses has not yet been to New York (or even to Boston or Atlanta), the 1508C (CQ310, CQ311, CQ312, R142A, R143, R188 and Green Line type 8) or TM1301SP (R179) were not included here.
The C951 uses Bombardier DR1200 TEFC PMSM's (totally enclosed fan-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous motors) unlike many of the others on video, which use regular 3-phase AC induction motors.

The first train is a SMU 220 found in the Brisbane Citytrain network. A lesser known name for it is the 220 series.
This is what the MBTA redline 1800’s sound like! They use this system as it’s also built by bombardier

It depends on the driver's controls. They are most likely separate.
