For some time now, our heroes have become somewhat weary of fighting XANA all the time. Tired of the routine of it all, and of Yumi’s seeming indifference towards him, Ulrich starts seeing another girl, which makes Yumi angry and causes a fight between our bashful love-birds… At the same time, a tower is activated on Lyokô, but none of our heroes can work out what Xana is up to. Still in doubt, Ulrich, Yumi and Odd are sent to the virtual universe and realise they have fallen into a trap. If they attempt to come back to the real world, they will be annihilated once and for all! This fight to the finish completely changes our heroes’ perception of their mission - this time round, it’s not the usual routine - and it helps Yumi and Ulrich to work out their differences…
Rewatching this show as an adult I realize Ulrich’s roast game was strong af. This boy is savage.

To be fair, neither Ulrich or Yumi started dating at all prior to this episode. Neither of them made an official commitment to the other, thus I find that Yumi's over-reacting when she sees Ulrich talking to Emily. Thus, as Ulrich's friend, she should respect his decision to talk to other people, regardless if they're a guy or girl.
Then to add insult to injury, she then decided to take advice from SISSI of all people, the LEAST credible person on campus.
I could tell a mile away that Sissi was using Yumi's emotional insecurity to her advantage, and she fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
I love the pairing between Ulrich and Yumi, but most of their problems stem from Yumi's insecurities and indecisiveness.

I mean, he already confessed to her when Sissi made that fake letter so all Yumi had to do is confess back but instead pulled the "we're are still good friends card" and didn't addressed anything, but then proceed to get angry at him when he kissed Sissy even though she's not his girlfriend and when talks to other girls even though when they hang out together she doesn't seem interested to move the relationship past friendship and even treats him like just a friend. Yumi is annoying sometimes.
For everytime aelita entered the tower slowly we wanted her to go faster to avoid any fatalities on earth, but this is the only episode she should've been slower.
Right now people are possibly saying deep down: darnit aelita! if you could've entered the code much slower, Ulrich and Yumi would've kissed.😄😄😄😄😄😊😊😊😊😨😨😨

Starting off an episode in Lyoko? That's new. Usually it takes until halfway through the episode.
Yzarro there was one that began in lyoko, Yumi and aelita were there, it was the episode xana sent out clone Yumi
Then the one a few episodes back where all three of them got trapped in a virtual reality during the return to the past.
One of my favourites episodes when I was younger, and still is! Though I think every Yumi and Ulrich fan will agree that there's a love -hate thing going on with this episode...we loved what went down, but hate how you teased us!! xD
It's fun watching all of these again, super nostalgic...not afraid to say that I'm not even a teenager anymore and still enjoy revisiting these c:

I really like how this show teaches kids about healthy relationships. Sometimes people fight and sometimes feel like talking to other people but that doesnt mean the other person doesnt love you. That a mature message.
Too bad for the rest of the show their relationship is toxic as fuck. Lol.

Given how Yumi's parents temporarily separated from each other over an argument that seems to be very stupid and didn't try to talk it out with each other, it's kinda sad that Yumi does the same thing with herself and Ulrich.
And given from what we see of Ulrich's father, he doesn't look like the type you could talk things out with, and unfortunately Ulrich seems to have gotten this unwillingness from him. Though granted, Ulrich may not be one to try and talk things out with others because he thinks that it's a waste of time from dealing with his dad.
This may have passed over my head when I was younger but it seems the trouble with Yumi and Ulrich's 'relationship' is because they don't how to properly talk to each other, mainly because their parents never taught them to. That and the teenage hormones. Because of this I can understand why Yumi tries to make them "just good friends" later on in Season 3, though that doesn't really have her addressing the issues, just pushing them aside in a different way.
Just imagine what we could've seen if Ante Films and Moonscoop didn't try to make the show more simplified.

Well, I think that both actually did want to talk it out, but they didn't know how to express their feelings, especially since they don't consider themselves to be dating each other.
Ulrich found interest in Emily because he was doubting that Yumi had feelings for him. Rather than speak to Yumi about this insecurity directly, he tests Yumi: Either she gets jealous, indicating that she still feels for Ulrich, or she doesn't care, and Ulrich gets a new girlfriend.
Yumi responds with jealousy, but she decides to show her anger towards Ulrich rather than speak to him, attempting to mask that she has feelings for him. He actually caught this and called her out on it, but at this point, the fight was already too heated for an easy discussion.
Still, at least they did make actions to resolve the conflict, even if they were unwise choices.

Woah, I like what you said about Yumi and what she said about them being "just good friends". I initially was all "Well yeah, Yumi is fed up with the back and forth and it was getting toxic" though you had me see what she said in a different light. Downplaying the main issue (their communication skills) and just acting like they're "friends" because that's easier than addressing it. They obviously care about each other a lot, hence their "not friends but not yet lovers" stance. They just need to be honest with each other, something they were both unwilling to do for their own reasons. It amazes me how Psychology can play a role in these things.

I'm doing a Code Lyoko marathon. Rewatching every single episode from beginning to end. Including Evolution, especially since I didn't even know it existed. I'm so glad I had this show to watch as a kid. Ulrich and Yumi were the first couple I ever shipped in my 15 years of existance. Feels good to come back and remember the good times.

ace b . but even if ulrich and yumi had kissed on lyoko wouldn't the return to the past have undone the whole thing so it never happened in the first place but i could be wrong the return to the past technically isn't time travel but more like a time reversion it reverses time and makes time go backwards so they have to keep living the same day over again it doesn't send them back in time but rewinds it 24 hours.

tbh for me it makes more sense that it's y=ax+b instead of y=mx+b. Hell, the first form is closer to the general form of a linear equation (Ax+By+C=0). It's not wrong at all, it's just being expressed in a different form.
Like, I just plotted y=2x+5 and 2x-y+5=0 and they're the same line.
Its actually quite common. At school for stats we leanred to express the equation of regression lines in the y= ax+b format. to calculate á you need one formula and to calculate b you need another one

Rewatching this now that I’m older, I wonder if how upset and IMMEDIATELY over the top jealous Yumi is about Ulrich and Emily wasn’t just because middle school crushes are dramatic as hell (tho that’s def a huge reason lmao), but is also a bit influenced by how unstable the relationship between Yumi’s parents is. We know they seem to have temporarily separated at one point over a silly argument, and while their relationship does get better as the seasons go on, it does seem pretty tense s1. Kids learn how to handle their own relationships by watching their parents after all, lol.
What about Ulrich's parents? His mom is neglectful, and his dad is straight up an abuser.

I think it’s more like actual combat isn’t really his cup of tea, however given that he does have the ability to rise above his own fears/limitations (especially when his friends are in danger) he could’ve ended up being a big help on the field despite his experiences with virtualization

Part of me just imagines Jérémie getting fed up with the constant drama between Ulrich & Yumi and he ends up pulling a Murray Bauman from Stranger Things 3 by telling them to either quit bickering or just get it over with
This episode actually becomes better in hindsight- the constant xana attacks with the return to the pasts are a quick way for xana to become more powerful.

I've always shipped Ulrich and Yumi . Thought they would be so cute together . I always wanted them to date in the series. Yumi does have feelings for him , she just dont want to admit it that she does. And what drawing my attention way while back about Emily on her Robe looking for Jim was kinda strange to me. Until now I realized that odd had some kind of a rumor about them dating. 😂 Makes me wonder if that was true lol . Cause it was odd for Emily being in her Robe looking for Jim like that lol. 😓😂😂

Not all the other evil things like making it so they can't be devirtualized, or taking away gravity, or trying to kill them in general.....nope it was locking off the elevator that crossed the line.
musicLover9487 he must really love that elevator. I mean I can see why, he would have to go back through the boiler room in the factory to get to the computer room like in that episode when the factory machines came alive and attacked him and odd.
I think what really crossed the line here is the fact Xana doesn't even leaves a chance to fight back. Usually the crew is at the top of its power (with maybe one of the members MIA) ready to kick his butt, but here they're all one-shottable and weakened to the brim. Locking Jeremy out of the elevator was just icing on a cake in this situation.

Something that always frustrates me is that this could’ve been the perfect moment for Yumi and Ulrich to confess to each other. Or at least til the end of the season.
But instead we get William in the mix and makes their relationship even more complicated. >:(
The real problem here is that season 2 onwards likes to pretend this episode never happened. Having a character like William get in the way of their relationship for a bit isn't really an inherently bad idea, it's just that he could've been more interesting and vital to Ulrich and Yumi's character arcs in some way.
Adding William to start a love triangle and a lot of things starting in season 2 were just pointless drama. The writing really suffered as the 3D animations got better.

You’re not wrong, when the show was under antefilms the show had an extremely tight budget because the show was originally going to be a 26 episode mini-series called garage kids, however then they still treated the funding as if it was still a mini-series instead of a full on cartoon. The show didn’t receive proper funding despite selling worldwide. It wasn’t until the show was picked up around episode 27 by MoonScoop studios and Splash Entertainment, did the show actually receive the funding it needed.

This was the first episode i ever saw of this series. I was 7 and when I saw them nearly kiss, I was so mad they didn’t. That was also the first time I got blue-balled, so thank you Lyoko. I found the show a few years later and now I’m rewatching the show that made my childhood. Thanks for uploading this show
Writer 1: Hey I know! Let’s pretend this moment never happened and add even more conflict to their relationship.
Writer 2: Maybe we can also add some kind of bad boy for Ulrich to rival against for Yumi’s affections.
