I tottally forgot about Drax with my DnD comparisons! He was probably standing still and I missed him. He's the player that never learns the rules of combat and RP, chose Barbarian, and always wipes the floor in combat!
During your review you mentioned you wished your PC could run the game with Ray-Tracing, just found they released a Ray-Tracing Upgrade Patch for the PS5 / XSX versions, assuming you have a PS5 or XSX, might be worth replaying again. Also if you haven't already, I highly recommend you play Alan Wake Remastered, would love to see an 'Everything Great about Alan Wake' video assuming you enjoy it, which I believe you will.
27:30 Oh man then that means you missed the dialog option with Drax. I don't remember what it was but if you find an item Drax will talk about how he went after and fought Thanos. He dosen't know if he did or not it ended in what seemed like a stalemate, but the ones that saved him said he killed Thanos. But Drax says that his gut tell him Thanos is still out there and waiting.
I love how Star-Lord feels like perfect balance between the pre-Gunn movie “war veteran that’s mentally and physically exhausted after sacrificing everything to save a galaxy that’s constantly and seemingly _trying_ to kill itself” Star-Lord, and the post-Gunn movie “loveable idiot who’s nostalgic for 80s music” Star-Lord. It’s the perfect way to hook diehard fans of the classic comics as well as casual fans who only know him as Mario- I mean Garfield- I mean Chris Pratt
Yeah, that's something I appreciate in the game. THey could've easilly just followed the MCU bit for bit, but instead they took elements that more casual fans would recognize from the movies with elements from the comics. Loved how they pulled so many references across the cosmic Marvel comics into this game that could've easilly just been "Let's regurgitate the Gunn movies but without the actors licenses and his writting".
I really liked how this game leaned into the comics a bit more. Also this might be a hot take, but I prefer the game Guardians over the movie ones. This is coming from someone who loves those movies, GOTG is what got me into the MCU back in 2014.
On my second playthrough I tried to sell Rocket instead of Groot, and it changed the whole level from a stealth game to an all out assault. Square Enix may have made a linear game, but its a fat street to walk down with plenty of side alleys.
Dang I chose rocket in my game and yeah didn't expect everything to turn to shit lol. I will now have to play through on new game+ and choose the opposite options to see how things change.
While playing, for every dialogue choice I just thought what would Star Lord actually say? It felt good to start the game being sarcastic and laissez faire and slowly morph into a more serious and caring character not just I'm cinematics but in the dialogue choices I made. The whole game felt so organic and real. Even against Resident Evil Village this is my Game of the Year.
In my latest playthrough, I've tried to mix more snarky options into the dialogue choices after being more of a "stay positive" hero. It's fun either way to see him start pulling rank later, like against Rocket and Adam Warlock. He's a nice guy, but don't push him or he will push back.
Okay but what the hell is wrong with the ones from the movies. And don't say because they use too comedic moments in it because shut up and it's basically the point.
I love that there’s a scene you can miss when you walk in on gamora meditating surrounded by dolls. It’s a cute and funny scene but sad once you realize that gamora just wants to be a normal person. She wanted a normal childhood with a sister she didn’t have to kill. So she surrounds herself with dolls and stuff because she wants that innocence of childhood back
Gamora's initial quirks, which I already liked, only made her more interesting to me after getting her backstory. "Wow, Gamora really likes puns. Funny, but I wonder why the writers took that road... Oh, THAT'S why she says them... That's really messed up."
There's a collectable you can talk to Drax about where he reveals he used a form of "magic" that fueled his rage and brought to him his deepest desire "revenge on Thanos" but he goes on to say that he blacked out with the last punch. He's pretty sure Thanos made it out alive barely just like he did.
it’s also stated that he actually fought him twice and both times had questionable endings to the fight. When you get all the dioluge about him you understand why he’s called the destroyer. Dude went on a tear thru the galexy three times and each time more deranged and berserk then the last. Until he snapped out of it (ironic since he later falls to the promise that would have started his fourth tear thru the galaxy) and turned himself in he was a fucking monster. You think the ones we’re shown are the dark ones. Na that’s only the tip.
I definitely fell in love with these characters more than the MCU version, especially Mantis and Drax. His MCU counterpart is way too silly and I never take him seriously and he just seems incapable of being effective in battle. Here he retains the best of the humour and is a force to reckon with who (allegedly) killed Thanos
Agreed Mantis was like useless in the movie, she was awesome in the game and actually pretty funny, the part where she keeps talking about how many time Rocket drowns had me rolling. Drax was so great Star Lord -"actually it changes everything....the most deadly woman in the galaxy just admitted.. she loves us 😏" Gamora - "I did not" Drax- "you did..you said you were in love with us right after the part about killing your sister" Gamora- "I said I enjoyed your company" Drax- "that is the Katathian definition of love"
The characters complaining about you going off path is actually a nice touch. Can get annoying afterwhile to some, I assume, but it's also immersive with the fact that you're doing something that would actually annoy people in real life without restricting the player from doing what gamers do in games.
Also they recorded tons of additional dialogues, just for this detail. And sometimes Peter says he wants to get higher to survey and characters appreciate this
I cracked up when Rocket mocks us at one point. "hey guys look, there's some really interesting crap on the floor here. Let's all stick our fingers in it!"
Easy GOTY for me. I never laughed and cried so much in a game before. I felt so attached to the characters and what they were going through - I even cheered at the screen when we turn to tell Drax "Let's go get Fin Fang Foom!" The joy and excitement he had. The huddle Mechanic was amazing - I fought a Giant Space Dragon to "Don't Worry be Happy" and the Church Leader to "Never Gonna Give You Up". Each track either hypes you up or leaves you on the floor laughing. Honestly my favourite version of the characters- a little mixed for Mantis, as I liked her Telltale version a lot more at first as like the little sister must protect figure, but I appreciated them giving her the Martial arts knowledge she had in the comics, and her cute happy delivery of really morbid lines was such a delight in those segments of the game. Brilliant direction to keep the spartax origins for Peter from the comics rather than the ego stuff for the films, as it's something that can keep on expanding in later stories instead of removing like in the second film. There's just so much to say and love about this game and I can't wait to see where they go with it!
Oh my god, my excitement was right up there with Drax when they finally decided to go after Fin Fang Foom. When Drax mentioned he wished they went after him in the QZ zone I was like "oh dope reference, wouldn't that be a dope ass fight to do." Then that moment happened and I was like "holy fuck it wasn't just a reference, this shit is actually happening!!!" I couldn't wait to fight Fin Fang Foom. Haven't seen him included in much media since that one fight in Ultimate Alliance, and this fight certainly topped that one
I had such a great time with this game. I've replayed it twice after new game plus, and it was such a pleasant surprise to me. To me, it's able to stand on its own from the previous game and movies. On top of that, this game actually made me tear up at certain moments. Namely: Gamora revealing Nebula's death, Drax saying goodbye to his family, and Peter saving Nikki from the promise.
My favorite costumes for each character.... Peter: Standard-Lord/ War Lord. Drax: Cage Match/ Monk. Gamora: Casual Kill/ Chosen Daughter. Rocket: Smuggler/ Movie version. Groot: Movie version/ Nova Corps.
@@bryanegelhoffsanimationtec257 regarding skins. I found it really weird that drax doesn’t have his scabbard in skins other than default. It really shows in cutscenes, especially considering that rocket and gamora keep their weapons in all costumes
@@danzansandeev6033 also found it weird that only starlord and groot got the annihilation skins. Especially since rocket wears that outfit during endgame.
I admit i'm not big fan of Marvel movies. My favorite movies were Guardians of the Galaxy movies and the Antman. I think this game bests these movies. What an amazing job from everyone who worked in this game.
@@bryanegelhoffsanimationtec257 My favorite costumes for each are the movie ones. I love how faithful they are to the originals and they just look great.
I was really indifferent to the MCU version of Gamora so I was really surprised when the game made her a funny sarcastic assassin who likes dolls (Probably because she never had a childhood) . Then you have her come off as cool without it being dark or sad or edgy. Love it.
Thanos gave her and Nebula dolls when they were younger. Then once they were attached to the dolls, took them away as a lesson to never get attached to anything. So once she was free she started collecting them. It's part of the dialogue you unlock if you buy her the doll from the Collector on Knowhere.
The part at the end cracked me up and also was sad, when she talks about killing Nebula Star Lord -"actually it changes everything....the most deadly woman in the galaxy just admitted.. she loves us 😏" Gamora - "I did not" Drax- "you did..you said you were in love with us right after the part about killing your sister" Gamora- "I said I enjoyed your company" Drax- "that is the Katathian definition of love"
27:26 There's actually a few optional conversations that expand on what exactly happened between Thanos and Drax. While it is true that Thanos vanished after his fight with him, Drax is the one who insists that he still feels his presence out there, and that him "killing" Thanos is merely post-war propaganda.
I don't think the scene with Drax and his family was alluding to him killing his family, it's just to destroy his grief and the illusion entirely like how Peter had to kill his mom to break the spell. It's Drax confronting his greatest grief and trauma and I think it's absolutely beautiful.
As someone who's lost people in my immediate family, watching Drax reconcile (I think I'm using that word right) with his dead family and move on from that pain was singlehandedly the hardest thing I've watched in any form of media. Full frontal emotional breakdown and I lived for it. This game is fantastic.
Drax and Nikki are so well represented in this game especially the way they deal with grief. I know there are some days where you would do anything to have them back but you know it can’t be done. Draxs longing to see his daughter and wife feel and look so genuine and his pain in “killing” them is so brilliantly conveyed. And Nikki actor(don’t know their name) is so good at portraying a distressed child who tried to prove herself to her mum only to lose her and wishes she had the time to spend with it. I know I wish I had the time to spend with my mate.
Completely agree. Exciting and engaging story and good gameplay. Although it does have a bit of a downside. It makes you realize what Avengers could have been lol.
As a 38 year Marvel Comics reader I totally appreciate the homage to the comics. You guys should read the Anihilation comic mini-series if you like this game.
Nicki yelling at Peter then telling him how she felt about losing her mom is the words I couldn't bring myself to say after I went threw losing someone close. And damn it hit right in the feels when a game based on comics helped express the hurt and uneasy that comes with losing someone
That scene with Nikki refusing to accept her loss, and you so perfectly imperfectly explaining why it resonates... hits hard man. I get it too, my life is in a weird spot right now and that catharsis is what everyone needs. You earned yourself a sub bro
Am I the only one that after this game tried to find an accurate copy of the Star-Lords jacket online because 1. Great Cosplay 2. Just cause 3.They might be my favorite interpretations just right above the films
I honestly have been non-stop listening to the star lord band soundtrack the songs are soooo good. Easily one of the best part of the game is the music.
I loved this game so much I bought it twice (once on Steam, and again when I got my Xbox Series X). Playing through it a second time was just as, if not more, joyous as the first time. This is easily one my favourite games I have ever played.
It was really smart of Eidos to capitalize on the team mechanic in this game not just for combat and platforming but also for general team interactions. Such as Rocket's sarcastic occasional "pewpewpew" when Peter would shoot at those worm hive trophies, or as in this video, Nicholette chiding Peter for deviating from the path to collect something, a scripted dialogue that may be completely avoided in some playthroughs. I also absolutely loves the fact that each costume comes with a precís of not just the furst appearance, but also the name of the artists, editors and cover artists. Very nice to acknowledge the people who made these characters.
Yes I have been waiting for this. This game was such a pleasant surprise. I love your videos, I really appreciate the nuance these games have that you point out.
People keep saying online how 'gaming is dead' or how 'gaming industry is dying', without realizing that they are getting to play gems like this. Ofcourse in every era there will be good and bad games, good and bad movies, books, tv series and so on. I think on platforms like youtube its easier to sell negativity and drama. Which is why you deserve a shoutout for not falling to that. Making positivity your core theme for this channel must have taken guts, especially when you could have also done a 'boo hoo look how modern gaming sucks now' move. I genuinely love this channel. I have often watched it during some of the darkest moments of my life and it just makes me smile and giggle like a kid. And this game, damn, no words can ever describe how much I love it, so thanks for doing that for me. I never understand people who say 'gaming sucks now'. GOTG, What remains of Edith Finch, Abzu, Spiderman, Arkham games, Journey, Solar Ash, Forza Horizon, Rollerdrome, The new Hitman games, Stray, Firewatch, Plague Tale games, Jedi Fallen Order, Titanfall 2, and SO, SO many more that I played, and thousands more that others can recommend. Gaming is the best its ever been. And I love how channels like yours highlight that.
There's optional dialogue between Drax and Peter where Drax says he fought thanos but passed out before the final blow and when he woke up everyone was praising him for killing thanos but he's still not sure if thanos is dead or not.
@@g3eneralz382 They were definitely setting up Thanos for a potential sequel. There are a number of dialogues in the game where Drax and Gamora seem to imply they believe Thanos isn't actually dead.
16:06 I wish he would’ve stopped for a min and talked to some of the aliens and the street vendors, i would love to see the interactions between Quill and the aliens 😩😩
Hearing your monologue at 35:05, there is so much emotions in your voice, it almost felt like you were about to break down and cry just thinking about that scene. Eidos is true to their moto of "Creating emotions".
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, just as I enjoyed playing the game. My grandma died almost 13yrs ago now and my mom died last year. I felt what Nikki felt, what Peter & Raker felt. It is like an all consuming mass, an abyss that swallows you; I’m scared and angry. I often wish for my own death, I hate feeling so incapable and trapped; playing this game, needless to say, resonated with me. I would’ve done near anything to save my mom, my grandmother, I would’ve brought ruin to the whole world if it meant I could save them. Living without them has been the most painful thing and confiding in my friends has been the most humbling. This game… I cannot properly convey how much it made me feel in the best of ways, even when it was painful, maybe especially when it was painful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it was an honor to hear how it touched you too.
Through all of last week and the start of this one ive probably watched over half of the videos on this channel glad to see another video to quench my never ending thirst for gaming wins Edit: boy this game is deep
Main thing I liked about the game is the team building, trust, love, emotion the guardians have for each other. Voice actors really did the good job, best voice acting.
I happened to absolutely love this game. I got it for my birthday this year, and i played the hell out of it. For me, this game, and Psychonauts 2 were the two best games this year.
I’m gonna say it here but I’m sure someone already did, Drax is unsure if his battle with thanos truly resulted in Thanos’ death, there’s a conversation you can have with him based on a collectible where he says he gained the power to sense thanos, went and battled with him for days when they both were on deaths door, Drax dealt a final blow then woke up somewhere else, his head says there’s no way thanos survived but his heart says he is still out there somewhere, hiding to weak to return
While playing this game I constantly related it to avengers. It is a shame that avengers didn’t capture the characters or the potential like this game did. And i felt joy and pain while realizing that at any turn
Just finished my first playthrough a few minutes before I watched this, and personally I'd absolutely give this game the best marks possible. Short enough that I didn't feel it a slog, long enough to justify the price. The game got more emotions from me than any media since FMA Brotherhood first came out. This landed in my upper tier of favorite games ever.
@GamingWins It's been a while since GOTG was released so I hope this comment finds you. For various reasons I did not get to fully watch your "Everything GREAT" video the game until recently. I felt compelled to message you because... 1) I'm so happy the game resonated with you and 2) I've yet to hear someone define how profound the Nikki scene was with such clarity and eloquence. It was truly something to experience from both a viewer and creator. There was not a dry eye on the PCAP stage the day we shot that sequence so to hear your experience and your added insight having had a theatrical background was wonderful. Please keep up the great content. I love watching these videos.
I like to compare Raker's death with Starro's death in Suicide Squad. Starro's last line, just as they defeat him, is something along the lines of "I was happy, floating through space, staring into the darkness." and it's his last line that makes you feel bad for him cause you realise he didn't want any of this he was taken from his home and was forced to defend himself. With Raker, we know his motavation is his son to come back to life, but we sort of forget about all that under all the grandiose and fighting. When he sees Magus and talks about his son, it all comes back to us and his good intentions with trying to cure death essentially but being used by Magus.
you talking about how this game made you feel emotionally reminds me of my journey through ghost of tsushima, that game has seriously impacted me even long after finishing it, i hope more people get to experience what you and i did.
I just finished this game today; damn, didn't expect it to be so good. The developers cared so much about this game that they added an insurmountable amount of detail everywhere. I am from South America and I use to play games in English because I appreciate the original work of voice actors and developers. However, due to the amount of dialogue, I decided to try and play this game in Latin American Spanish. I cannot believe that they went the extra mile and gave us such an amazing dubbing; they hired amazing voice actors for this and gave them creative freedom to add their own jokes. Eidos deserves more recognition for their job here, I cannot wait for a sequel!
I received this as a Christmas gift and I have to agree that I have not fallen in love with a story and characters so hard since the first Last of Us. God, I really hope we get a sequel as it's the most deserving I've played in years.
The 2nd promise confrontation with Quill and Niki always brings me to tears every time I play this game even though I know what’s happening this is why GOTG is my #1 top favorite MCU/marvel characters in the entire galaxy
I’m just getting around to seeing this now and watching all the way through and experiencing the scene between Peter and Nikki in her promise over again reminded me of how much I love this game not only for how entertaining it is but for how moving it is.
I LOVED this game so much. I havent played a game this fun and well done in so long, everything about it is awesome... also I love the message of the story of the game: "we all lose family and friends but we have to let them go to go forward" such a simple yet strong message. Probably one of the best games I have and ever will play.
Just finished the game last night, it is so amazing. One part about the story I really like that wasn't mention in this video was the Galactic War that ended some years prior to the game but the events of it is the reason for everything that happened in the game; from Peter getting space-napped what lead to Warlock founding the Church and getting corrupted into Magus. While that stuff alone is a good reason, the real reason I enjoy the inclusion of this Galactic War in the lore of this game is that reading about it in the various articles of the Compendium (the in-game database for any players interested in the lore stuff) that the game writers took inspiration from the Annihilation comic mini-series, keeping some the big stuff (like Richard Rider leading the resistance, Drax killing Thanos) but changing some things to fit with their story (Chitauri being the big bad and Rocket being created as a super-solider for the Kree during this war). I feel like this was a smart move on their part because the Annihilation series was not only a great comic event (seriously, pick it up and read it) but it was very influential on the state of the larger Marvel cosmic stuff and the event in it and it sequel lead the formation of the Guardians of the Galaxy as we know them. Also reading it back in high school around the time the first Iron Man movie came out is what lead to me to actually go and read comics period, so it was nice to see that series wasn't forgotten.
You are what this game is to the reviewing scene. A breath of fresh air and complete honesty with so much personality that the game might as well have been written by yourself. No pushing a narrative, no pumping BS because it's what the publisher would want the reviewer to thing... An honest thought of what the game, whatever the game is, and what's so good about it. Are you perfect?, no, no-one is, a Space Rider With No Name, A Bit of Good (A Bit of Bad).
my favourite scene of the game is that is not part of the main storyline its when on knowhere (the first time) if you walk to the rift drax is standing there and you have a beautifull conversation about both peters and drax their loss
My absolute favorite game of the year, I cannot stop recommending it to people. Unforgettable story moments, heart wrenching acting, stunning visuals… there is no way we’re not getting a sequel.
13:35 It's actually not open ended at all. They explain that his father was the King of the planet Spartax. His guns are highly advanced Spartoi tech that has biological markers so they only work for someone of royal blood. That's why his mother thought they were useless. She didn't realize they would only function for Peter. And they're elemental guns, they can conjure any elemental power the user desires. Peter has no awareness of this function tho, so they activated only in times of duress. They can also do way more than the 4 powers shown, the limitation is purely a gameplay limit. If you listen to Drax's suggestion after the Worldmind bails, he suggests going to Spartax and Rocket and Peter then explain that their weaponry was so advanced they were prime targets in the war and the entire planet was destroyed to the point it's completely inhospitable. Peter having "god powers" and being connected to Ego was purely an MCU thing. In all other versions, his elemental guns are just highly advanced tech he gets via his Spartax royal heritage and he has absolutely no powers. also 23:48 if you find one of the collectibles during this chapter that ends up in Gamora's room, when talking to her about it we get to learn that this isn't a random kid but a kid that the Priests specifically assigned to Gamora to take care of. He was a troubled kid and the Priests decided that pairing them would help both of them heal together, which she admits herself worked. So her and the kid actually have a deeper connection than it originally seems. She took care of him during her entire time on Lamentis after killing Nebula. 32:35 Rocket has a file in his room that lets us know he had already ordered and received the gold outfits at the beginning of the game. He was annoyed tho because he wanted gold colored costumes and the person used real gold instead which made it far more expensive. He then tells the merchant he'll only pay a portion IF the outfits actually survive a battle whenever they get around to using them. 33:30 we should also consider that this actually means Kor-El is the THIRD parent of Nikki's to die. Both her actual parents were already killed by the Chitauri (which Peter can also relate to). This is her second time becoming an orphan even if she doesn't realize it, since her thinking Peter could be her dad obviously means she doesn't know she's adopted. It also shows Peter how badly Nikki needs him in the moment. She doesn't need him because he just happens to be her father but because she has nothing and no one else now that Kor-El is gone. At that moment he stops seeing her as the potential daughter he didn't know about and just as a child who is hurt and grieving alone.
I got this game the day after my dog died and I finished it quite quickly because I had time off from work to grieve. I guess at the time the themes of loss really related to me, I don't normally get very emotional but the scene with Nikki near the end really got me.
I think what makes this characters so lovable is the family feeling they represent. They start up as a team of renegades who have to stick together for convenience and then they are a disfuncional family that trust and cares for each other. Moments like Gamora’s confession or Drax’s acceptance of his grief are great because we feel how they are bonding and coming together. You can see it when Drax doesn’t stop talking about Gamora being a traitor and not trusting her, for later to see them talking about efficient fighting techniques.
Another thing I want to comment. Spanish dubbing for this game is awesome, it has typical expressions and references only Spanish speakers would understand, so jokes are not lost in translation but rather they are adapted to the public.
I'm absolutely buying this as soon as I have the means to. What really convinced me was that scene between Peter and Nikki towards the end. I've had a lot of the same feelings that she has for a long time, most of them because of childhood trauma. And being a child experiencing those things is so confusing and scary. You know the feeling is there, and you don't want it there, but you don't know how to get rid of it. So, you'll lie to yourself because you aren't old enough to really heal. All you can do at that point is cope. And just hearing her say that she would rather build a lie to convince herself that her mom is coming back, because it's better than facing that she isn't just broke me. I've had those same thoughts and feelings towards my own mom (and childhood), and I still do to this day. I'm still working on the moving on/letting go aspect of healing, which is going to take a lot of time. But hopefully not too much :)
i am so glad that i was able to play through this game with zero major spoilers it is such an amazing game and i definitely know i'll keep going into it just to experience as much of it as i can
I got this a week ago and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Really enjoyed the story, original soundtrack along with the licensed music, characters and all the great costumes. This has probably been one of the greatest games I’ve played in a long time. If anyone does read this please buy it. If you can’t then ask for it on your birthday, Christmas or whatever holiday you give out gifts
"I will cherish the time that we had, and not resent the time that we lost" I lost my brother a few days ago, and I've been beating myself up for not spending more time with him when I had the chance. I think that quote is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you for winning it so I could hear it
i already knew i would love this game from the moment I started playing, but god... that scene with drax really won me over to it being one of my all time favs and a game that I will always promote to anyone
This game is incredible! As a huge Marvel fan, I was excited for this, though a little weary because of Avengers, but I still decided to pre-order the game on a whim, mainly because Miles Morales was so good and I was hopeful for another experience like that. And somehow, I may have gotten a better experience. It took me a while to play through (a little over a month) just because I was very busy with life at the time, but it was on my mind every day that I wasn't playing it. It's been a long time since a game has held me like that. I would go as far to say that the story is even better than the Spider-Man games, which are phenomenal. The gameplay's not as good, so I still put them on equal footing in terms of quality, but that's still some pretty flarking high praise! I've never been someone to go crazy over story-less multiplayer games; these are the kinds of experiences I like to have while gaming, so I am very happy with this game and hope a sequel is announced soon. Even if it's not, though, I am so grateful that this game even exists in the first place. GOTY for sure imo.
I loved this game from beginning to end… it was so good in fact I did it in about 2 days… honestly that’s the saddest part I wish I hadn’t played through that quickly but I just… well I couldn’t stop… in my opinion GOTY
Being able to pull-off a combo also feels so satisfying in this game! Groot's Entangle + Rocket's Gravistick Grenade + Starlord's Eye of the Hurricane + Gamora's Shadow Strike + Drax's Pound and Pummel. This was always my go to at the start of an enemy wave(especially near the end of the story), and it really feels like they're working as one flarkin' unit!
The part at around 27:19 about Drax allegedly killing Thanos is actually referred to in other missable dialogue; he fought Thanos for many, many hours straight, to the point where both of them passed out from exhaustion. If I remember correctly, even Drax isn't sure if Thanos actually died or not, since by the time he came back around, he wasn't still with him. Hence, Drax is uncertain, because he doesn't know for sure that he finished him.
You do a fanatical job at making people care about games. For example, I played through this game and I really enjoyed it. Hell, I beat it with the hardest settings in like two days and want a second. But the way you describe everything makes it hit 10 times deeper. I appreciate you
27:26 yes, you can talk to drax when you visit knowwhere and get separated from the group, he is near a viewing platform where he admits that he doesn’t think actually killed thanos and it was all propaganda and knows he still lives
I played this when it first came out and got it for my birthday. The scene when he tells her about the candles hit me so hard cause my mom taught me the same thing. It helped me cope with the loss, and these days a lot has.
I have consumed and loved so much Guardians of the Galaxy content ever since I watched the first MCU film. But god damn are these iterations something else. They take the charm from the films but with so much more character and really bring out the best these ‘broken’ characters have to offer when it comes to the themes of family, finding your place and striving to change for the better.
When Nikki told Ko-rel "No, you empty your pockets" I paused the game and went and told my momma because I understood that this little girl was about to be a past tense. My momma agreed with me, if I had ever tried something like that with her she would slap the black offa me so hard my skeleton would turn 50 shades whiter.
What a coincidence this video came out the same day I finished the game. I didn't cry but only because I turned the sound off and looked away as much as I could during the part where I had to destroy the party in Nikki's promise. I turned it back on for the talk they had but the physically destroying of the party... couldn't do it with the sound on. I think I might still be recovering from the Mass Effect Trilogy. In short, this game is amazing and, if you ask me, this is the best incarnation of the Guardians of the Flarking Galaxy. Period.
Not gonna lie man, I love your channel. But I'm tripping right now and this video hit different from your other ones. Thanks for doing what you do bro.
I picked up Guardians 2 weeks ago on a recommendation from a good friend of mine. She told me it was one of her favourite games last year and while I was skeptical (Marvel’s Avengers and all that) I decided to give it a try. Now it is one of my favourites too. I can name on two hands the games that I have played that have actually made me very emotional and misty eyed while playing. This is one of them.
I tottally forgot about Drax with my DnD comparisons! He was probably standing still and I missed him. He's the player that never learns the rules of combat and RP, chose Barbarian, and always wipes the floor in combat!
I think MCU Mantis will eventually become more similar to this version of her.
Hey man, could you do days gone at some point, I feel it’s a really under appreciated game that needs more love
FYI Tom Segura is my and my Dad's favorite comedian so every time you use him in your videos we laugh automatically
People really need to give Chris a chance as Mario.
Charles Martinet never voiced him in any TV shows or movies.
This really won't be different.
I really liked how this game leaned into the comics a bit more. Also this might be a hot take, but I prefer the game Guardians over the movie ones. This is coming from someone who loves those movies, GOTG is what got me into the MCU back in 2014.
@@garfieldunderpants9914 it’ll be interesting to witness, I’ll tell you that.
@@garfieldunderpants9914 this aged like milk
On my second playthrough I tried to sell Rocket instead of Groot, and it changed the whole level from a stealth game to an all out assault. Square Enix may have made a linear game, but its a fat street to walk down with plenty of side alleys.
There is nothing wrong with a linear game when done well
Dang I chose rocket in my game and yeah didn't expect everything to turn to shit lol. I will now have to play through on new game+ and choose the opposite options to see how things change.
i tried to sell rocket on my first just because i thought it would be hilarious, and it was
@@JudeTheUA-camPoopersubscribe yeah, I did both routes through whilst going back for the collectibles to get the platinum trophy.
It's funny cuz it's a con that either way wouldn't have worked.
While playing, for every dialogue choice I just thought what would Star Lord actually say? It felt good to start the game being sarcastic and laissez faire and slowly morph into a more serious and caring character not just I'm cinematics but in the dialogue choices I made. The whole game felt so organic and real. Even against Resident Evil Village this is my Game of the Year.
ahahah same.
I agree
In my latest playthrough, I've tried to mix more snarky options into the dialogue choices after being more of a "stay positive" hero. It's fun either way to see him start pulling rank later, like against Rocket and Adam Warlock. He's a nice guy, but don't push him or he will push back.
Isn’t laissez fair an economic principle?
@@CricketsTavern It basically means abandon or something. When saying "laisse faire", it means forget it. It's french.
The worse thing about this game is that now every time I watch the movies I’ll think about how much I like this version of the characters more
Dude I watched guardians of the galaxy 1 after this game and I couldn’t stop comparing. I prefer the video game version over the MCU now
Dude the worst thing about I it takes to much to load
Okay but what the hell is wrong with the ones from the movies. And don't say because they use too comedic moments in it because shut up and it's basically the point.
I agree but you can see the inlfuence the movies have on this game
@MajorFanBoy bruh. It's not that serious lol. They just went a slightly different direction with the characters. And some people like these better.
@@Montesama314 yeah it was really cool to find some of the details that can be missed especially with Gamora. Her and drax were my favorites.
There's a collectable you can talk to Drax about where he reveals he used a form of "magic" that fueled his rage and brought to him his deepest desire "revenge on Thanos" but he goes on to say that he blacked out with the last punch. He's pretty sure Thanos made it out alive barely just like he did.
There is also a hidden dialogue on knowhere where drax admits he never killed him
it’s also stated that he actually fought him twice and both times had questionable endings to the fight.
This game has no business being this kickass.
Especially the soundtrack!
@@travisbishop782 forreal. Soundtrack is just banger after banger
Drax was so great
Star Lord -"actually it changes everything....the most deadly woman in the galaxy just admitted.. she loves us 😏"
Gamora - "I did not"
Drax- "you did..you said you were in love with us right after the part about killing your sister"
Gamora- "I said I enjoyed your company"
Drax- "that is the Katathian definition of love"
The characters complaining about you going off path is actually a nice touch. Can get annoying afterwhile to some, I assume, but it's also immersive with the fact that you're doing something that would actually annoy people in real life without restricting the player from doing what gamers do in games.
Also they recorded tons of additional dialogues, just for this detail. And sometimes Peter says he wants to get higher to survey and characters appreciate this
I cracked up when Rocket mocks us at one point. "hey guys look, there's some really interesting crap on the floor here. Let's all stick our fingers in it!"
I liked it because rather than a normal map navigation system you used your companions to know where to go basically
Best instance of this is exploring the first time on Hala’s Hope when you’re with Nikki and she’s like “are you seriously trying to escape?”
That moment is so great. Especially as it comes at a point when it feels like the game is heading towards the climax then suddenly FIN FANG FOOM BABY!
Honestly, I felt like the song "Zero to hero" was underused in this game, it's such a great song and it fits so well with Peter in general, I love it!
I was jamming out in the Milano with thatsong on
38:59 In the "credits," you can actually see some of the names of the devs and staff change to Magus momentarily before changing back.
The part at the end cracked me up and also was sad, when she talks about killing Nebula
27:26 There's actually a few optional conversations that expand on what exactly happened between Thanos and Drax.
While it is true that Thanos vanished after his fight with him, Drax is the one who insists that he still feels his presence out there, and that him "killing" Thanos is merely post-war propaganda.
Rocket: I’m telling you I’m NOT a WOOFING animal!
Star lord: WOOF are you talking a BARK!?!?
Gets me every time.
Haha, good one past me.
This is one of the few games that has made me fully bawl, like I had to stop at several times just to collect myself because of how hard it hits
Drax and the part where you have to shoot your mom was messed up almost as bad as Kratos having to push his daughter away in god of war
Easily the biggest surprise of 2021, this game has no business being as good as it was✊🏽
Facts!!!
Completely agree. Exciting and engaging story and good gameplay. Although it does have a bit of a downside. It makes you realize what Avengers could have been lol.
When I saw gameplay for this game, I had no idea it was gonna be so good.

As a 38 year Marvel Comics reader I totally appreciate the homage to the comics. You guys should read the Anihilation comic mini-series if you like this game.
"Get me my purse" is indeed, top-tier four words you could hear mom say.
Nicki yelling at Peter then telling him how she felt about losing her mom is the words I couldn't bring myself to say after I went threw losing someone close. And damn it hit right in the feels when a game based on comics helped express the hurt and uneasy that comes with losing someone
This was honestly one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I’ve ever had in my life. So many laughs and so many moments filled with heart.
20:17 amazing detail work with Peters hands shaking
“Empty and heavy” was such a perfect description for losing a loved one that it brought me to tears the first few times I heard it.
THIS.
I love Nikki, she's one of the most likable and endearing kids in gaming
For real. Right up there with LOU1 Ellie.
Love Rockets line in Chapter 1
"I can hear you scanning"
This game loves to break the 4th wall in all the best ways.
I loved this game so much I bought it twice (once on Steam, and again when I got my Xbox Series X). Playing through it a second time was just as, if not more, joyous as the first time. This is easily one my favourite games I have ever played.
Missed Win: at 28:12 Gamora looks at Peter when she says "The right people"
It was really smart of Eidos to capitalize on the team mechanic in this game not just for combat and platforming but also for general team interactions.
Wow, that might be intreresting for a sequel.
Man thanks for sharing. That must be very difficult. Hope the pain gets better. 💜
Through all of last week and the start of this one ive probably watched over half of the videos on this channel glad to see another video to quench my never ending thirst for gaming wins
Edit: boy this game is deep
I expected very little from this game. Im a big comics fan and fell in love with this game. Finished it twice and platinumed it
Main thing I liked about the game is the team building, trust, love, emotion the guardians have for each other. Voice actors really did the good job, best voice acting.
I just gotta say that this channel has been my absolute favorite, I really enjoy what you do here!
I happened to absolutely love this game. I got it for my birthday this year, and i played the hell out of it. For me, this game, and Psychonauts 2 were the two best games this year.
I loved this game so much. 11/10
I was so devastated seeing Ko-rel die, that one hit me hard the most.
Love these videos
One question though: how come Cosmo's pups weren't a win?
I pray to god that we get a sequel that’s just as good as this. I want more adventures Witt this crew. I love these characters more than the movies!
Just beat my first playthrough recently and just want to say, I can't wait for my new game+ playthrough and finally understand what Groot is saying.
I received this as a Christmas gift and I have to agree that I have not fallen in love with a story and characters so hard since the first Last of Us. God, I really hope we get a sequel as it's the most deserving I've played in years.
Your love of Tom Segura is inspiring. Was watching the bit that "7?!" came from when I was getting fitted for glasses lol
14:19 lol I equipped this outfit for Groot too like as if the group dressed him up for this mission to look more like a monster
It's the only game where I listened to every single dialogue and really cared for all the characters.
Too bad this is over. I want to see more ❤
I LOVED this game so much.
This game makes me feel so pumped man. Loved every second of it
my favourite scene of the game is that is not part of the main storyline its when on knowhere (the first time) if you walk to the rift drax is standing there and you have a beautifull conversation about both peters and drax their loss
When you were talking about Drax maybe not killing thanos, there is actually some dialogue you can get explaining it more in drax’s room
But hopefully not too much :)
i am so glad that i was able to play through this game with zero major spoilers
it is such an amazing game and i definitely know i'll keep going into it just to experience as much of it as i can
I got this a week ago and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.
Thank you for winning it so I could hear it
I’m so glad we all realize that this is Square Enix’s apology, and we all accepted it with this game
Lady D and Lady H are both good, Dimitresku is squishy and Hellbend hard as stone. Great Video
i already knew i would love this game from the moment I started playing, but god... that scene with drax really won me over to it being one of my all time favs and a game that I will always promote to anyone
24:24 - Hi Pip, bye Pip.
I literally just beat the game the day you uploaded this. I'm so excited super enjoyed this game
I loved this game from beginning to end… it was so good in fact I did it in about 2 days… honestly that’s the saddest part I wish I hadn’t played through that quickly but I just… well I couldn’t stop… in my opinion GOTY
29:55 Peter has the stupidest smile here, and I love it. I played it without depth of field and it kinda sucks that the blur sorta blocks it
Being able to pull-off a combo also feels so satisfying in this game!
20:58 Drax had other plans for a second
I appreciate you
12:14 the club reminds me of the youtube logo
My momma agreed with me, if I had ever tried something like that with her she would slap the black offa me so hard my skeleton would turn 50 shades whiter.
yeah that's fcked up dude. Hot take children shouldn't be assaulted.
Been listening to the album for a week and seriously how is every track a banger
13:47 Lol, transformium
Thanks for sharing your feelings regarding this game. Experiencing your emotional response with these scenes enhance my own.
I feel you on the Nikki and Peter section in the end of your video. Every line you said rang eerily true with me brother. Thank you for sharing.
From one psychonaut to another, save travels!
