My son has been doing a level “down” for the past 2 years. We’ve used grades 5 & 6. We enjoy the books choices, comprehension questions, grammar, and lit analysis. We do NOT use the composition portion as our writing program.
That’s good to know other’s do a grade level down as well. I don’t think anyone I have talked to that uses Lightning Lit uses the comprehension.
I reached out to the company regarding the writing instruction and they messaged me back letting me know that they are working on supplemental worksheets that will better guide the teacher and student through the writing assignments. There are actually some available now under the 4th grade curriculum in the resource section. I didn't check to see what was available in the other grades.
This is great information to know! Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
My grandson is working his way through Lightening Literature Grade 3. I agree with you that the chosen reading books, comprehension questions, grammar, literary devices discussions, and student workbook pages are all excellent. In my opinion, the composition portion is more advanced than what is developmentally appropriate for my grandson, so we skip that section and supplement with a different writing curriculum.
I agree! When I looked over the composition at the beginning of the year I knew I would need to spend a lot of time with my boys each day to get it all done. I had just started the Building Writer's curriculum at the end of last school year, so I really just wanted to keep going with that since I was seeing lots of improvement with their writing with that program.
@@KidsLearningforLife Oh, I haven't heard of the Building Writers curriculum - I'll have to check that out!
Great video! Did you find the grammar to be sufficient? Or did you need to supplement? Also, were the kids able to work generally independently? Thank you.
Hello! Yes, I do find the grammar to be sufficient for us. We weren't doing much grammar before using Lighting Lit, so this has been great. My boys have been able to do the reading and comprehension questions independently. They sometimes need more help with the grammar parts, but just for me to go over the concept and then they can usually do the activity part independently. Hope that helps!
