Looks like 2018 hurricane season brought more than we expected! Let’s take a look.. In total, the season produced 15 named storms, including eight hurricanes of which two were “major” (Category 3, 4 or 5). For the fourth consecutive year, hurricane activity began prior to the official June 1st start of the season, with Tropical Storm Alberto forming on May 25. Alberto made landfall in northern Florida and traveled as far north as the Great Lakes as a tropical depression.(As you saw in the video ;) ) A record seven named storms (Alberto, Beryl, Debby, Ernesto, Joyce, Leslie and Oscar) were classified as subtropical at some point. The previous record of five subtropical storms occurred in 1969. The 2018 hurricane season was the first since 2008 to have four named storms active at the same time (Florence, Helene, Isaac and Joyce). Hurricane Michael, at a Category 4 intensity, was the strongest hurricane on record to strike the Florida panhandle. It was the third-most-intense hurricane to make landfall in the continental U.S. on record in terms of central pressure (919 mb) and the fourth-strongest in terms of maximum sustained winds (155 mph). This can change to Category 5, later on the post analysis. Fun and GOOD fact, August only produced 2 named storms, there were no hurricanes in August! I guess you could say, this was a crazy year! More fun facts! This year the name “Beryl” became a hurricane for the first time through our it’s time of use through our the years! July 2018 had its first hurricane of the season, (Beryl) with Chris to follow! This was the first time a hurricane formed in the main development region in July since Hurricane Bertha in 2008!
Couple more fun facts As of right now (post-analysis pending), Michael is the second most intense Atlantic hurricane to not reach Category 5, following only Opal in 1995 (916 mb), and tied with Gloria in 1985. Michael is also the most intense October hurricane in the Atlantic since Wilma in 2005.
Not going to lie... as soon as I saw Michael switch to a "5" I jumped up and said "Yeah! There's the truth!" Four months later... NWS confirms it... Michael was a 5!
Hurricane Dorian is already a Category 5 and its slamming the Bahamas and making its way toward Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Stay safe out there.

Hurricane Michael is the Category 5 hurricane to struck Florida Panhandle, which is just a month after Super Typhoon Mangkhut (Ompong) batters Northern Luzon in the Philippines.
Michael is the first Cat 5 to ever affect the U.S since Andrew in 1992, Florence was the first storm to affect North Carolina since Matthew in 2016. Florence was also the costliest storm to affect the East Coast since 2012 with Hurricane Sandy, and it was the costliest storm to ever affect the Carolinas since Hurricane Hugo.
@@randomnessamethyst8438 Im sorry, but imo this is were you've made a mistake following the NHC's analysis. If you just look at it before landfall, it looked very much like a 160mph storm. I would actually be suprised if the NHC didn't upgrade it
@@tropicstracker5848 As far as I know, the NHC didn't upgrade it. They might in the future, but for now it's classified as a high-end Category 4 major hurricane. It was about 2-3 MPH shy of being a Category 5.

@@randomnessamethyst8438 We will see in the Post season analysis sometime early next year as they don't upgrade it until that. I don't think it will take that long for the NHC to see that it is a C5, recon can prove that.
I miss this, back when the videos whern't interrupted by choppy reporting about something we just saw. (No offense to the people, just prefer to watch the animation not the reporting.)
fun fact: one system here had the smallest eye in 2018, and that was beryl, also, another system here had one of the fastest motion speeds of 2018, and that was Michael!
There's no chance Alberto would get retired this year, and if Alberto (1994) happened after Allison of 2001 I'd say that is a guaranteed chance of retirement.
florence aimed straight where i lived as a category four but curved up last minute. i didnt have school for a full week. i also didnt have school for a week during joaquin, matthew, and irma and missed a day because michael.

This season was the most diverse, we had a Portugal hurricane, an Ireland extratropical depression, subtropical storms, east coast landfalls, gulf coast landfalls, and even a Fujuwara interaction!
2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season was an above-average, but very costly Atlantic hurricane season. The season featured 15 named storms, 8 of the named storms became a hurricane, but only 2 of those hurricane further intensified into major hurricanes. Those hurricanes were Florence and Michael. Michael further intensified into a category 5 hurricane while making a rare category 5 landfall in the United States. In May, the season got off to an early start with the formation of Tropical Storm Alberto. The tropical storm formed in the Caribbean and moved northward for nearly its entire existence as a tropical cyclone. Alberto peaked with winds of 65 mph, and a pressure of 990 millibars. Alberto made landfall in the Florida Panhandle. Alberto immediately weakened into a tropical depression, and stayed inland as a tropical cyclone for quite awhile. The system dissipated on the 31st of May when transitioning into a remnant low pressure area. No tropical cyclones had ended up forming in the month of June. Beryl, a category 1 hurricane, formed in the Main Development Region in early July. Beryl formed from a tropical wave that left Africa on the first day of July. Beryl initially was a tropical depression, but intensified into a tropical storm, and then a category 1 hurricane. Beryl began weakening while moving west and dissipated east of the Lesser Antilles. Beryl's remnants traveled through the eastern part of the Caribbean Sea and drifted northward while over the Dominican Republic. While Beryl was in the Main Development Region, a system moved off the United States and evolved into Tropical Depression 3. This system became Tropical Storm Chris and then Hurricane Chris while off the US east coast. Chris intensified into a category 2 with peak sustained winds of 105 mph. Chris continued northwestward and began to weaken. Chris dissipated on July the 12th. Off the United States east coast, Beryl's remnants re-strengthened into Subtropical Storm Beryl. The system, Beryl, began to eventually weaken and dissipated soon after reforming. The National Hurricane Center began monitoring a system in the open Atlantic in early August. This system eventually organized into Subtropical Storm Debby. This subtropical storm eventually evolved into a tropical storm while drifting harmlessly out to sea. The system did not last long, and dissipated on August 9th. Another system was also in the northern Atlantic, and eventually became Subtropical Storm Ernesto on August 15th. This system was weak system, and only peaked at sustained winds of 45 mph, and 1003 millibars in pressure. The system dissipated on August the 17th, but its remnants hit Ireland as a extratropical low pressure. A tropical wave emerged off the western coast of Africa on August 30th. The southern part of this wave would eventually move into the eastern part of the Pacific and become Tropical Depression 19-E on September 19th, which took 20 days! The other part eventually became Tropical Storm Florence. September was a very active month, featuring storms: Florence, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, an unnamed tropical depression, Kirk, and Leslie. Florence moved into the Central Atlantic and became a category 4 hurricane, the first major hurricane of the season. Florence began weakening and weakened into a tropical storm. Florence, yet being weakened heavily, began to re-strengthen into a category 4 hurricane. Florence moved closer to the United States and made a devastating landfall in North Carolina, despite being much weaker than it was earlier. Florence moved slowly over the region and brought devastating floods to the area. The damage totals from Florence are estimated to be around 25 billion dollars in damages. Tropical Storm Gordon formed in the Gulf of Mexico and quickly made landfall in Florida before making another landfall on the Mississippi-Alabama border. Gordon almost became a hurricane, but failed to do so. A tropical wave moved off the coast of Africa early in September and near immediately became Tropical Depression 8. 8 became Tropical Storm Helene quickly and became a category 2 hurricane, short of category 3 or major hurricane status. Helene moved northward and began to weaken. The storm then made a turn northeast and dissipated. Another tropical wave had moved off the coast of Africa and became Tropical Storm Isaac. Isaac further intensified into a minimal category 1 hurricane moving westward towards the Caribbean. The system weakened to a tropical storm but continued westward towards the Caribbean Sea. Isaac eventually made it into the Caribbean Sea and weakened to a tropical depression around a day after and dissipated. A cold front eventually became Subtropical Storm Joyce in the mid-latitudes of the Atlantic. This caused four tropical cyclones to co-exist at once in the Atlantic: Florence, Helene, Isaac, and Joyce. It moved in a somewhat erratic direction, partly caused by the Fujiwhara effect with Hurricane Helene. Joyce did not last long and dissipated on September 18th. As the tropics were quiet, a new tropical depression formed east of the Lesser Antilles from a wave that left the west coast of Africa, but dissipated the next day due to increasing unfavorable conditions. Yet another wave moved off of Africa, and became Tropical Storm Kirk. Kirk did not last long and dissipated quickly after. However, Kirk's remnants moved towards the Caribbean and about 1-2 days before entering, it reformed into Tropical Storm Kirk and again, did not last very long and dissipated. Another system formed in the mid-latitudes and became Subtropical Storm Leslie. This system did not last long initially and dissipated, but reformed again into Subtropical Storm Leslie, and then Tropical Storm Leslie. Leslie moved erratically over the middle latitudes of the Atlantic Ocean throughout its life and eventually became a hurricane but weakened into a tropical storm again. Leslie drifted around and changed direction a few times and eventually became a hurricane again before racing towards Portugal. Leslie did not make a landfall as a tropical cyclone in Portugal and dissipated quickly before it hit the country. Leslie lasted very long (September 23rd - October 13th). A low pressure formed and also ended up absorbing the remnants of Tropical Storm Kirk in the Caribbean. This system became Tropical Storm Michael on October 7th. It moved northward and intensified into a hurricane. Michael continued to intensify and became increasingly stronger and became a major hurricane. It still became stronger and intensified into a category 5 hurricane; the highest category on the scale. Michael made a devastating landfall in Florida and almost immediately weakened to category 4 status and continually weakened inland and dissipated on October 11th. Michael's remnants moved off the US, traveled the Atlantic, before getting very close to Portugal. Yet another wave moved off the coast of Africa and became Tropical Storm Nadine. Nadine formed on October 9th and lasted until the 12th. It moved northwestward and began to die out due to unfavorable conditions. A new subtropical storm formed and was named Oscar, it intensified into a category 1 hurricane and further into a category 2. Oscar moved across the Atlantic and weakened and dissipated on Halloween. No tropical cyclones formed in the North Atlantic after Oscar. Hurricane Season officially ended on November 30th. Totals: 16 tropical cyclones 15 named storms 8 hurricanes 2 major hurricanes 1 category 5 around 170 deaths 50 billion dollars in damages.

This channel can save so many lives

COLBY HUDSON amazing 11/10
@COLBY HUDSON I was agreeing to the comment with a happy face thing.
fun fact: one system here had the smallest eye in 2018, and that was beryl, also, another system here had one of the fastest motion speeds of 2018, and that was Michael!
I noticed Helene was a c3 in this animation when it was officially a c2. This is because f13s analysis' can differ from official ones.
Waited all year for this

Alberto was kinda of underated in my opinion with quietly killing 18 and being one of the coastiest tropical storms on record
Alberto should have been retired after 1994 when it racked up over a billion dollars in damages
There's no chance Alberto would get retired this year, and if Alberto (1994) happened after Allison of 2001 I'd say that is a guaranteed chance of retirement.
Alberto was so coastly!
@@justinweber2632 $175,000,000 is barely anything compared to the other atlantic storms.

Featured 7 Subtropical Storms; the most in a season! (Alberto, Beryl, Debby, Ernesto, Joyce, Leslie, Oscar)
Featured only 2 majors (Florence, Michael)
$33B in Damages; Third Consecutive Season to Feature damages above >$10B
First year since 2016 to be beaten by the other major basins in terms of ACE
Fourth Consecutive season to have a Earlier Start before the Official Boundaries (Alberto in May)
this was far from a avenge season
@@typhoonmichael7742 It is an Above Average season.

And 5th off season storm in 4 years
Hurricane Michael's landfall (3:40) is my favorite part of the animation.
Everyone is dead
Michael: Hey Andrew.
Andrew: What?
Michael: I'm better than you!
Andrew: Impossible!
Looks at the sites
Andrews reads the article
Andrew: That's not fair!
Michael: I had a better landfall than you! So suck it!
This season was the most diverse, we had a Portugal hurricane, an Ireland extratropical depression, subtropical storms, east coast landfalls, gulf coast landfalls, and even a Fujuwara interaction!

Oh I saw it Helene and Joyce.
I really love the music you used in this season and last year's Atlantic Hurricane season. You should make it available on iTunes or something.

2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season
The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season was an above-average, but very costly Atlantic hurricane season.
Totals:
16 tropical cyclones
15 named storms
8 hurricanes
2 major hurricanes
1 category 5
around 170 deaths
50 billion dollars in damages.
Thanks for the great info

This season was absolutely nuts, plus there was 4 hurricanes in one go, that's rare.
came and looked at this to watch florences track over again. I'm from enc and we were told that Florence was a cat 1 when it made landfall but I guess that wasn't true. most people figured it wasn't. it was so tense leading up to the storm. we thought it was going to be a cat 5 when it hit us. traffic was terrible and grocery stores were sold out of everything. i remember talking to some old people after the storm and they said it was the worst hurricane nc has seen since I think hazel in the 50s.
