I would say it even better when the winch company can sell you replaceable parts vs having to junk it
Where possible it’s always better to repair than replace
i guess I am quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch newly released movies online ?
Hello Wranglerstar. I'm a long time watcher and first time commenting. I work as a crew supervisor for an environmental program and many of you're videos have helped me in teaching my crew in basic tool maintenance. I always enjoy coming home from a hard day in the woods and watching a few of your videos.
glad you got your winch fixed. that one moment where you find out what the mystery problem is sometimes "just gives you the fizz"
LOL , on the almost getting stuck . Years ago we went up in the high country in my old van with studs all the way around and limited slip rear end along with two more wheels with chained up snow tires to go sledding . I was driving around a turn around spot and what I thought was packed snow on top of gravel was actually some gravel on top of 2' of snow . Van broke through and was sitting on the frame . Worked up a good sweat and it took two four bye fours to help get me out . Memories ! Have a great Christmas !
I've the same impact gun, excellent little tool.
FYI for Warn, if I ever need a winch you're my first stop before anyone else.
Replace all 4 relays. Keep 1 onboard for emergencies, and file the other 2 good ones in Grandads treasure chest your cleaning out. Also for when jack is going through the drawers in 25 yrs cleaning out what you've hoarded, a strip of masking tape with winch relay written on it might be useful, although i doubt the winch will still be around.
What a productive day for you! I've lost track of how many times I've been able to fix something by taking it apart and putting it back together, without ever figuring out what the real problem was. Sorry about the tree-cutting trip; you all really deserved a nice family outing without the stress.
It would be best to change all the relays because they have all been subjected to same elements and the other 3 will follow suit soon. The candelabra is a series circuit and uses 20 volt bulbs. If you rewire the candelabra in parallel circuit you can then use the more common 120 volt bulbs that are far more available as night light bulbs.
You are on a run. Love these simple videos. Humorous everyday things produced with professional realism. If you ever get tired of this homestead gig, make MOVIES. You certainly have the knack.
Thank the goodness you didn’t start swapping brushes like the one guy said. Being a locomotive electrician that guy gave me a good chuckle.
I love the fact the you mentioned techniques from the comments and tested them. Excellent video!
Merry Christmas Cody and Family!
I've found that the best source for those odd bulbs is the local garden center, the kind that also sells gifts and home decor. In my area at least it's easier to find and cheaper than online when you factor in shipping.
Just be careful that you get the right voltage bulb: With 120v mains, the 7 bulb candelabras take a 17v bulb, whereas the 5 bulb candelabra take a 23v bulb.
Adventsljusstake = Candelabra, Glad 4:e advent nu på söndag till dig och din familj!
And (#4) from my British friend... he says "...in th past when we were channel restricted, there was little choice in movies, and so on Boxing day you'd end up watching some old film or other...Moonraker, the Great Escape, Lawrance of Arabia..." so there ya go!
As a proud Brit (Welshman) I am loving how your sarcastic one liners are getting so much better, will have to make you an Honorary Welshman if you keep this up.
That electrical wiring on those lights omg, don't go to bed and leave those switched on.
I would love to see the UL test report when they got certified, if they ever did.
I had the same problem with my XD9000i. So during my troubleshooting I ran a jumper ground from battery to the winch housing and it worked in both directions. The factory ground on the housing was corroded inside so I took the motor off then cleaned it with PB Blaster and WD-40 and now it works great.
haha the sweetloaf dropped the peppercorn on her jumper, she looked so confused.
Good video. Two things ring true: 1. I’ve fixed a lot of things by handling them, 2: I’ve imagined wonderful outings that turn out not wonderful. I like the “warts and all” honesty of your channel. Merry Christmas!
It's not specifically 'Moonraker' that is traditional, but in days gone by there was always, always a James Bond film on Boxing Day. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family, from Bonnie Scotland!
Satisfying watch. Merry Christmas.
Fun fact boxing day was originally an Irish tradition but it was renamed boxing day as all the left over Christmas food would be put in boxes and given to the homeless on the 26th of December
It's not that we British watch Moonraker on Boxing Day, it's more the fact that a terrestrial TV channel will likely show a Bond movie sometime on the 26th. It's often on late afternoon when everyone is still recovering from lunch so maybe it's a captive audience thing 😜
Well done finding the faulty relay and it’s a good idea to replace all of them.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I had this exact problem and the same difficulties and after a bit of negotiation Warn fixed it free and out of warranty. Darn happy.
Merry Christmas to you, your family, and
everyone!
That baby has such an impressive palette! Sourkraut, pepper corns!
“Victory”😂😂
Love this series and the length of these videos lately!
It's so strange that you mentioned "Moonraker", just before watching this video I watched one about Richard Kiel as Jaws.
Master Jack looked like a young OB1 Kenobi with the blanket wrapped around him. :0)
I've totally done that kind of winter backing.
Have a Merry Christmas, and thank you for the always enjoyable content.
I love how you fix things instead of tossing them out and buying new ones. Show that to the tree huggers. 😂 merry Christmas
Isn’t it just always the way life works! The day after you throw away a time capsule box worth of old bulbs that you need one! It’s just how life is!! Love the channel, love this current series of fixing and tackling the projects and process of making a proper work shop!
what i always do is replace all relays and keep the working ones in the car in case of an emergency. you never know when you'll be in a pickle and that will get you out of a pinch in no time and you'll look like a pro. always ready for the unexpected. im' always the one getting called for help cause i try to keep extra stuff and parts and get myself, friends and family out of trouble. it also feels good to be able to say "yes i can help you"its a very rewarding feeling,
A merry Christmas to you and your family, all the way from Portugal!
By the way the moon raker is a bit of a Boxing Day tradition
or the great escape.. which ever one is on
We only watch it because it's on TV every year.
Great video, the sweet loaf is growing so fast! love her ❤️
A really good Christmas movie that's kinda hard to get, (but I did get it from Amazon), is "The Christmas Box," with Richard Thomas (John-Boy Walton) & an Elderly & still Regal Maureen O'Hara. As unforgettable as "The Christmas Carol." Well worth the hunt to find it.
Ive had those traps be quite successful but I had a larger roller. I also had almost the entire thing covered im peanut butter with the bucket and ramp against a wall, seems to be a more natural place to travel for them.
The honesty of I'm not really sure what I'm doing here in these is amazing 😂
Merry Christmas Wranglerstar Family 🎄
Loving the longer videos!! Especially when we get a surprise appearance by Mrs W and the Sweet Loaf!! Adorable as ever! :)
My first car was a 1975 MGB convertible. It was a lot of things. Reliable was not one of them. haha. Even with the issues, I still loved it and continue to love British cars.
I was looking for a midget and found a '79 Spitfire. I don't regret it, I had a LOT of fun in that car. And a new transmission, new top, new carb, new header...When the fuel pump went south on the ride home after buying it the bells should have started going off...But hey, when you're 16. I learned a lot about cars with that one.
Really enjoying this series, very peaceful and entertaining!
mrs. wranglerstar's christmas light is wired in series, where one light goes out, they all go out, if they were wired in parallel, if one goes out, the rest stay on, and the reason for this is because im series, their is only one path for current flow, a parallel circuit however, it has multiple paths for current flow, which means that if something stops working, the rest continue working.
Working in the woods almost 18yrs now........its cheaper to fix things at home then in the woods. Cheaper for parts and everything......change all the syliniods while your at it sounds good to me. Maybe toss in switches if that fits the bill.......kr make a repair bag for the winch with spare larts and the tools you need
Little electrical lesson. When you took off the back of the candelabra, it was obvious the lights were wired in series. One of the wires from the switch went to each end of the candelabra. There was a single wire running between each candle. The main reason they do this is to keep costs down. Each of those bulbs are probably rated for 15-20 volts adding the 7 together gives you a total of 105V-140V load. To hook the lights in parallel would either require having 110V lights, or some sort of transformer to reduce the power to 15V, both would raise the cost to the customer. BTW, I would try the old lights again. You tightened up the candle stick and the lights came on. That indicates the candle was not tight in it's socket, not the bulb being out. Try that before buying anything.
Merry christmas to you and your family from denmark 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
@Wranglerstar heads up on the swedish welcome light bulbs -- even good bulbs WILL look dark and you can mistake them for being burned out. it's just what they do... don't toss bulbs simply because they're darkened. i found this out the expensive way. also, if your light is like ours, the 7-bulb light uses different lights than the 5-bulb ones... they look the same, but are not compatible (something like 17V for the 7's vs 23V for the 5's). google "christmas classics 1907-55-na" for the bulbs. there's a place local here that sells them... if you're unable to find bulbs and need some.
A Merry Christmas from the UK to you and your loved ones. Keep up the great videos!
16" Of wet snow Turns you into the grinch!
Sweetloaf has the funniest palate. I forget what she was eating before but I was cracking up and now she's eating straight peppercorns 😂.
Edit: I remember it was straight sauerkraut lol.
Love videos like this! Keep up the good work from Australia
The knife reveal was actually hilarious, that didnt last long!
Been watching your videos for over a year now and always look forward to seeing you uploaded a new one I have even gotten my fiance to start watching and give me the green light to start out jurney to get a place in the north west thank you keep it up
The Hakkapeliitta R2's are phenomenal tires. I have them on a 2015 Honda Accord, and it's totally transformed the car. Granted they weren't easy for me to source but well worth the time and investment.
Really enjoying these recent vids. Thank you and Merry Christmas
MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM OREGON!!🎄
It's nice when a manufacturer chimes in. I've found that the electrics on Warn's are kinda... ehh. I've had to replace those relays so many times it's crazy. When one goes, the rest aren't too far behind. I replace all of them when one goes.
That was good trouble shooting to find out that it was a faulty relay to the winch ! That was funny to find out that it was only one bulb that was loose ! Just like those old Christmas tree lights ha ha ! Thanks !
#3! Is bad! Not making internal contact. When you change it, cut open the old one to see the failure up close. Nice video again sir.
Bosch invented the "Miss". Lucas invented "Darkness".
Yea if a circuit is wired in parallel then one bulb can go out and the rest will stay lit, that candelabra is wired in series like a daisy chain therefore if one component in the chain goes bad the circuit is broken ie won't work
Christopher McNamee 9 of 10 of the candelabra in Sweden is wired in series 🙂
Christopher McNamee i learnt that in yr7 what are you learning in the US at ah 40
I learnt when I was in school to
Pineapple Express! Lmao
420 blazin up the mountain
I just watched that movie too! I thought it was very well done.
sounds like the drive alone was video worthy. keep it safe out there and happy holidays to your family!
Not sure about Moonraker specifically but classic bond is a great boxing day tradition.
I love this style of video where you are fixing stuff. I know I need to learn more about electricity and the fact that you dont know much more than me is kinda nice
These multiple project videos are high speed. I like it.
the serial way of hooking up these lights, rather than in parallel, is a cost saving decision... saves on copper wiring.
Cody I would like a thumbs up from you for christmas , I have given you many this year.
😎😀
That's actually how many of those dial switches work. generally speaking, they typically aren't used for anything with a lot of power going through it.
The peppercorn fell into the flower on sweet loafs shirt
Napa sells a relay thatch a generic replacement, a continuations use duty cycle solenoid if you ever need it in a pinch, they also work great on tractors & even airplanes.
Your how to fix-it videos are always my favorite to watch
I'd be careful reversing polarity on a solenoid...I had the same problem on a trim motor on a Yamaha outboard was told to try reversing the positive and negative and it caught on fire... Turns out that particular solenoid was only meant to have polarity one way. When a put the hot wire on the ground it caused resistance through the entire wiring harness. Luckily we killed the fire before it got further but it did almost a thousand in damage and left me stranded a few times before it was finally fixed correctly.... Since then I've never had the nerve to reverse polarity on anything that's broken one way and not t'other.
Even a not so good adventure can give us good memories. Merry Christmas
Hello Sweetloaf , Bye-bye Bugout.
The chance of getting stuck in the snow is an essential Christmas Tree hunting experience.
I don't know why dads seem to enjoy it so much more more than rest of the family???
Pretty much,
"We have to get to that today, Doug." Were you talking to me? I should have ask you to replace the brusher on the motor also.
Moonraker is kinda true. It used to be that every christmas, normally boxing day; a bond film would be on tv. Any of the pre-Dalton films though rather than specifically moonraker :) Sadly not such a tradition these days. Don't think I've seen a Bond film on the schedule on boxing day for years.
Can't say I've ever watched Moonraker on boxing Day. I haven't a clue where that came from 😂
I wish we could magnetize the floor around our benches. Then, when you inevitably drop a nut or screw, it doesn't zoom away into the shadows, it just stops where it fell. Of course, then you'd have to de-magnetize to pick it up. :)
Use magnetic paint.
Good stuff. Back to some basics. Many will appreciate that.
Not Moonraker necessarily, but there's usually a James bond film on tv on Christmas/Boxing day. More appropriately Die Hard is usually on in the run upto Christmas!
British and never heard of boxing day moon raker? Love the channel 👍🏻
"It fell on the floor, never to be seen again" lol #truth
"Never miss an opportunity to be a hero to your lady, even if you don't know what your doing" That would make a great shirt
Loving the repair videos.
"When you need a wench, you need a wench". haha. It's WINCH Cody!
I'm impressed you went all the way to Mt. Fuji. What a drive! @26:03
Prettige Kerstdagen en een gelukkig nieuw jaar!!! From the Netherlands.
I must WARN you. Awesome Video!! :) :) :)
Merry Christmas
Have a Merry Christmas to you and yours
Good explanation my friend of you’re work
Now all the adventure van needs is a plow!
On that Swedish ljusstake its 99% the lamps 😎 sometimes it’s the tabs in under the lamps.
I've fixed two of them this year, one for my wife and one for my mom. In one case one of the contacts had dropped out of the socket so I had to fish it back into place. The other just had one bad bulb.
I always start by checking the resistance on the bulbs to see if they're still good, then start checking continuity from the plug ends and socket to socket. Electrically they're dead simple so they're not hard to troubleshoot and repair.
