RED ONE is now known as L980 and follows a similar track. The VALKO SIDs still exist, Long Sands is now waypoint LOGAN and Ongar is the Lambourne VORDME.
Wow this was a massive find. Thanks for sharing it. I remember watching this programme when I was a child with my dad. My dad was in air traffic at Heathrow and while we knew many of the controllers featured, it was filmed featuring a different 'watch' than my father's, but what a great reminder of the work they did back then without the technology that air traffic controllers have today.

Identical R/T and similar checks but new waypoint names, taxiway and runway designators, more automation, display screens instead of gauges, bigger control towers and a few more female and ethnically diverse pilots and controllers.
Great programme; the Trident 1C featured (G-ARPH) was eventually retired to the Cosford Museum, UK. Sadly a few years ago she was broken up; but her flight deck was saved and is now on display at the Museum of Flight, East Fortune, Scotland.
The HS-121 Trident. Was probably the best commercial aircraft ever built in the World. As in style and speed. Superior to the Boeing 727. And that’s a opinion from a U.S citizen. Glory Days. 🛫
Brilliant documentary!. Great to see how both so little and so much has changed. Also love the Trident, I was born in the wrong era to fly on her but so iconic as one of our last great commercial jets. It’s a shame our own airlines ruined her. Still annoys me to this day

The Trident was destined to be a 727 killer.... But alas thanks to various decisions, it was too tailor made to BEA specifications, and a great opportunity was lost.
Dan Cushing the 727 although had more fuel efficient engines, couldn't do on its best day what Trident was built to do. I remember reading in flight school about her first ever autoland in the spring of 1964. to this day, a metal model of the HS 121 sits on my night table💖
The Trident could take off, fly and land with no input from the pilots. The 727 couldn't do that. As with most British tech, it was screwed up by short sightedness and committees of pen-pushers
This can't be from 22 January 1973 because I've just looked at the TV Times from that week and it isn't even listed. Could that be because this particular copy is from the Anglia TV region?

You are right, they shortened it, damn shame, my dad flew them, they were the fastest commercial jet airliner
