You're the man Devyn! This is going to be such a great journey, and by the end of it, we'll have made something amazing!
/Alex & Denize
please start selling in india your cases are amazing
I knew you guys from thor-zone were really nice people, I'm happy for this project, I'm sure it's gonna come out insanely good.
Awesome collab. Cant wait to see this grow and I plan on backing this as soon as its available!
You guys are true inventors
Aircooling support is a must if you are making a case of your own. I know AIOs are efficient and sexy but I fear pump failure at some point.
Agreed. And a lot of youtubers prefer AIOs partly because they do frequent builds and rebuilds - it saves them time and effort, but it doesn't showcase longevity or issues for people trying to get more than a couple of years out of their system. Pump noise on some coolers can also be more grating (if not objectively louder) than fan noise from an air cooler.
If your pump fails just replace it? Your cpu isn’t going to explode. Also failure rates are insanely low
@@Phlorge leaks are also a potential problem with AIOs
THANK YOU for going (first) the M-ATX route! This form factor has become very competitive from a price/performance standpoint, especially compared to itx, with almost no compromise. I will sure as hell support the project by buying the case. Keep it up Devyn!
There is a compromise in that microATX eats into available space if prioritizing lower volume SFF. Most designs sacrifice cooler height or other clearances in order to allow for the footprint of mATX.
That said, I agree that it's often worth it, particularly when you don't mind if the case is at the upper end of "true" SFF or if the case ends up being a compact microATX mid tower (good to see this become more of a thing the past few years: decent 25-35L microATX mid towers like the Lian LI/DAN A3-mATX, ASUS AP201, Jonsbo D30/D31, etc.). It can be more affordable and allows for a little more I/O for prosumer type uses as well as larger components and cooling.
Please please please don’t settle on a generic box aesthetic. Integrate sensible aesthetics that push the medium forward. Do something like Xikii that’s not limited to specific components, and you will have achieved greatness. We don’t need another Ncase
Omg yes. Thank you.
Agree. 150mm long PSU, 300mm gpu, 155mm cooler space, m-atx, sub-20L, not a boring box Ncase. Consider me sold
@@rzkrdn8650 you might have to give up on one or more of those specs to actually make everything fit in a sub 20L space, but I agree that hitting at least a few of those is solid. Especially on the Ncase front (will throw in DAN Cases as well, though nothing against either - they just have no personality to them, which is fine if you just want something minimalist/utilitarian with quality).
Well it would likely not be something like Xikii if it is not limited to specific components.
A box design may be generic but it is popular for a reason. It is fine, especially a matx one.
@@chy.0190 yes obviously, but it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. There is a range of measurements for compatible components with design language that still looks intentional and special. This takes vision however and not everyone has it
We're looking forward to seeing your case come to fruition. Good luck Devyn!
I'm here for it and I love Thorzone for helping make it happen.
Such an awesome project! As an industrial designer this is really a dream-project!
you can measure inner diametr with caliper you know? Its tool in upper side of screen at 0:27
😂
cmon🤣
exactly what i was thinking 🤣
i lost it there LOL
I've enjoyed your channel since the beginning and always appreciate that you build in different, and not always easy to work with, ITX cases. I hope this project blows up for you and you become the next Ali Sayed/Optimum in the ITX and PC building space. If there is any way to avoid turning your case into a group buy/prepaid adventure please do it.
Keep up the awesome work!
Bro the daft punk helmet is sick
Here to say that and ask where the hell did that come from 😂
@@appletuntrainer Agreed. I want!
It looks like the one Volpin Props made years ago; at least at first glance that's the one I think of
ua-cam.com/video/H0TBZeCgL0E/v-deo.htmlsi=H-Q-fImh9t-zPcO5
already know this is gonna turn out looking incredible. it’s definitely gonna be a challenge but I’m wishing everything can go as smooth as possible, can’t wait to see the finished product
Here's wishing you guys good fortune Devyn. You seem to have the demeanor and mindset to take things in stride with chill and just knock down one challenge at a time until the job's done.
we need more vertical designs that dont use a riser cable and can fit large aircoolers.
Hyte Revoltl 3!
I love it it can fit pretty massive GPUs too
Ch160 my beloved
@@horseydestroyer9466 yeah i was looking at that as well but then i saw a review saying it had no airflow and gpu temps are really bad.
@@CatWachristmashat doesnt really fit big gpus otherwise a really dope case indeed
@ well i wouldn’t say they are really bad, all itx is not great. I have a 3080 fe that sits at about 77° under full gaming load
The quality of your content is the most satisfying and clean I’ve ever seen.
This is such an awesome project. I can't wait to see how this goes!
Can't wait to watch the process and end result, also I need a office/studio tour video for inspiration, your place looks awesome!
If you can make an affordable but high quality case that fits Matx but also normal size PSUs that would be amazing. People often discount the fact that if a case that costs say 120$ with a small footprint can fit a normal psu and an Matx motherboard it comes out to be much cheaper than a really budget itx case that costs 80$ but with an sfx power supply and an itx motherboard
I have an X1C. It’s a champion. If you want your prototypes to print faster, then get a 0.8mm nozzle hotend for one of your printers and a leave the other as 0.4mm for more fine detail printing.
I recently made my own PC case and it was an incredible experience. I’m working on design ideas for my next one. It’s an addictive process! I can’t wait to see where your journey takes you!
I really think a premium Dan case A3 competitor is needed in the market. Something with that kind of GPU/CPU/cooling compatibility, but in a premium package instead of the cheaper wood and stamped steel they are using. Ideally a few liters smaller as well
I personally feel that the Ncase M2 fulfills this role tho, just with less cooler support to keep it 15-16L
Big fan of your work Devyn, followed you since sub20k i think and i can tell you have what it takes to make us an amazing case, go for it!!!
I've done some designs myself but always for 3D printers... it is extremely expensive if you want to get them done in any metal just for you. I found helpful to work with acrylic as well for some panels, it can make your case look good being cheap :)
You have the resources, the knowledge and now the expertise, so I'm sure you'll get something awesome.
Thank you for trying to add something new to the space! I really hope you can keep the price in the $150 range as I’d rather give my business to a company/designer that is a creator and for the SFF community. I have been thinking about upgrading my pc and making it SFF but haven’t found a case I truly love. The only reasonable option seems to be the M2 or the Meshroom if you can find it.
Full sized air cooler support (i hope) with matx and atx psu support on sub 19 liters would be an absolute endgame case. I hope this project goes well!
That's super cool to see! Super happy to see the discussion of mATX motherboard compatibility!
One thing about PETG, though: Depending on the heat you're subjecting the prints to, they may start to deflect and soften (happens around 70 C). If you need something more, you might want to look into ASA or ABS (which start to deflect at 90 C). Just make sure you let the printer bed warm up the chamber (I like to get it to at least 40 C), and print with lid on and door closed, or else it'll warp. Also, it shouldn't be printed in an unventilated space.
Excited to see what is to come🔥🔥
I will be purchasing the final product, whatever you make, hands down, every video on this channel has been informative. For my first gaming PC, you’ve sold me on SFF over and over again. It’s just fits my needs and my desk / office space in my home. Good luck and can’t wait to see what you come up with!
After using the Fractal Ridge, I go back to cases thar aren't horizontal console-style.
The only way for me to switch from my Ridge is for an 8-10 Liter case like the Sliger CL520, but with support for a 55-70mm cooler; that isn't just a metal box with slits.
Let's goooo! This is going to be so sick man, and I just know you are going to knock this out of the park.
You actually inspired me to build my first MITX build which I'm doing now, I am cheating a bit by using the Coolermaster NR200P Max V2 (Preinstalled AIO & PSU) but we've gotta start somewhere!
What's a MITX😂
@@qiyang3129 ITX motherboards are technically Mini-ITX, so I assume that’s where the M came from. He’s just starting off so cut some slack!
Not to worry. The overall goal of Mini-ITX is to have a nice, clean, aesthetic little box atop your desk, and the Max V2 works just fine for that!
All of the yes! I recently ordered a Thor Zone case based in part on your review from them. Stoked that you’re going to make a collab!
Congrats on the move and wishing you all the best. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds and the final product.
My only suggestion, much better cable management. Hardest part of any small form build (as you know) is where to stash the cables.
looks good! Cant wait to see the full release
A vertical case with a rotated Mainboard layout like on the ssupd meshroom where the rear IO is easily accessible with support for a 280mm rad with Thorzone build quality would be insane
PSA, you can use the calipers to measure internal diameters through the little prongs on the top back of the tool. The jaws open up to grab outwards instead of inwards like the big jaws but the measurements are still the same
Suggestion on ventilation areas. Different options with corresponding "sound profiles" of fans against them (where applicable). Some will look better (subjective) vs "be better" objectively.
Omg a sff case that fits matx is so needed. I want a console type case that can fit matx.
Best of luck with this venture. Have been an avid watcher of your SFF builds and would love to see what you come up with.
Personally I'd love to see more console like itx options like the Fractal Ridge. With the way the market is going I think there's huge potential in a PC that fits in a conventional TV unit with enough airflow.
PS5 size max if you will.
Can’t wait. Built my first itx pc (in an nr200) since 2009 and now I want to explore.
dobe, im finally waiting to see that dream comes true of really good budget matx and itx case, im excited
I hope the case works in a vertical orientation like the nanoq, best of luck on your project looking forward to it
I'd never finish a case, it would be build after build. Love Thorzone, they make visually appealing cases (I have the Nanoq R), so I wish you both the best of luck, and I look forward to seeing the result! I could give you a list of things to look at, but you've already done that a 1000 times over. So, good luck, I look forward to seeing the result!! =)
Excited to see where this goes and hope there will be a white option! All my PCs have been black themed so far and for my next one I wanted to go all white/Gundam themed
I know I’m getting ahead of things, but I’d love to know the planned footprint of this case!
I’m making a fold-up wall-mounted desk and want to put this case on the mounted part. Gotta make sure it’ll fit!
I'm interested in this project and will be watching. Good luck!
I don't have as much experience as you, but I've done a fair amount of SFF building relative to most and been around the SFF community for a few years. Here's my own wishlist, if you want some ideas: I'd like to see a case that ships flat pack, but doesn't actually require assembly other than some magnetic panels - it just has a hinged, origami design that allows it to unfold into it's true size. Save on packaging and shipping costs, allow for maximum ease of modding.
Build quality comes more from having consistently and precisely-cut pieces of optimum thickness using quality materials, and sourcing standard but good quality components for everything else (e.g. the I/O and power button). Attention to detail and high standards for sourcing is what matters. Even plastics and natural materials (waiting on someone who can do a bamboo case one day...) can be high quality materials, not just CNC milled aluminum or other metals - don't let Apple and people who obsess only about their industrial design tell you otherwise. Going unibody/CNC or traditional case design (e.g. stamped steel) makes cases too expensive unless you have scale (i.e. the Lian Li partnerships that a lot of the boutique SFF cases have done). Otherwise you end up having to do limited runs if you can't easily produce enough. Especially with looming sourcing and supply chain issues like tariffs and others related to geopolitics and environmental concerns; we already have had enough experience of this during/post pandemic, with many lessons to take away.
I don't follow boutique SFF cases anymore because I hated having to try and jump through hoops, paying through the roof, and/or having to wait an inordinate amount of time to get one (doubly annoying when you are _also_ a custom keyboard person 😅). Boutique case makers often don't think about supply chain resiliency and just focus on a dream case; this is fine if you are just producing it for yourself, but a royal pain in the real world for potential buyers. If you make an open-source design that's easily fabricated, though, then you at least give people options even if you remain the best source for your design. You also open up way more avenues for localized production partners in different regions. Even materials like 3D printed filled filaments and tools like laser cutters are at least accessible by makers and enthusiasts, but multi-axis CNC machines and the like are not.
TL;DR: focus on modability/repairability, simple but solid parts, and make the case highly available, and I will buy one. The ability to accommodate sturdy handles would be a plus but doesn't need to be part of the design (if the space is there, though, this would help modders who want to DIY that - practical handles go a long way to making larger, dense SFF more transportable). Ideally don't price it too expensive, but don't take a loss, of course - anything south of $300 (USD) is at least in the realm of feasible for me personally. Lower would be nicer, though. $150-$200 I think would be the sweet spot for a lot of people and is a point where you could probably still achieve good quality if a lot of thought goes into keeping costs reasonable. ATX PSU compatibility like you mentioned would be a huge plus. Up to or above 120mm CPU cooler clearance would be nice and achievable if using a flat/single-chamber rather than sandwich layout, but if you do go sandwich then ~80mm would be nice for accommodating coolers like the Noctua L12 and similar while still having some headroom for turbulence mitigation.
Lookin' forward to this project!
I like the concept here. I was just thinking about the same. The SFF should not be a niche product that excludes budget builds. While there are options out there with mATX and ATX PSU support, they're either a tad big, bad airflow, and/or made with cheap materials.
I have one request. Please include support for at least two 3.5 HDD. You could do it like on formed T1, where you could put two 3.5 HDD on one of the top 120 mm fan spots using DIY 3d printed mounting.
I kind of expected you to be cookin sth.
Funny how I am currently doing the same thing, also with no prior experience in this space.
My journey of making a case availabe to buy for others has so far been both exciting and exhausting, especially because I still work full time next to it.
If everything goes according to plan it might be available to buy on my website early next year. Hit me up if you want a review sample for a video.
For now it looks like I can pull off, getting the cases done locally, not far from where I live in germany, wich is great.
Thanks for your great content, you were one of my inspirations to just do my own cases!
I never expected the SFFPC rabbit hole to be this deep, but I guess here we are.
Might have to get it when it comes out🔥
For basic proto typing a Stanley knife ruler and 2mm thick mdf board will go a long way.
Ooh I like the design a lot. Very interested depending on how many liters.
I appreciate you trying to lower the cost. Hopefully this product puts Thor on the map.
I was literally about to say that the Nano is my fave SFF case! Sick!
I think it's also very important to use different variants of GPUs that are longer and/or thicker than a Founder Edition cards to insure a better range of cards.
Awesome ! Can't wait to see what you come up with
please, please
make it compatible with what Deepcool CH160 has, where you can have the PSU laying against the side panel, to allow a front intake fan, for tower coolers
Amazing man, good luck with the journey. Looking forward to it.
honestly I want a SFF case where you can have a glass panel without compromising airflow and temps.
NR200P was one of my top pick but the fact that the GPU installed hides the mobo and cpu cooler is bad. I wanna see and enjoy whats inside.
Jonsbo A4 another pick but apparently they still have not replace the problematic riser which is still pcie 3.0
etc.
Would it be possible to use a generative render to find the best possible ventilation for fan efficiencey. There was something similar with organic shaped 3d printed copper CPU blocks at computex
love your videos, only recently started watching.
I’ve been looking for a nice compact and quality built case which supports mat. This project is looking like it might be exactly what I’m looking for.
Hoping shipping to Australia will be considered 😊
You want your first product to have as wide an appeal as possible and to be as accessible as possible, so going for mATX and ATX PSU support is a logical move from a marketing perspective.
Even if they prefer a more compact build, most PC builders are just not going to shell out the extra 200~300+ extra USD for a quality ITX board, LP cooler, and SFX PSU; that's just a fact with how expensive components are getting now.
I wish you the best of luck, friend.
after this project please look into a water cooling first SFF pc with a distro plate built in. Would save space and look so clean
I recently built my first pc this year, itx build, and I watched heavily on your itx builds, looking for the best airflow case but expansive compatibility with hardware, which I ended up going with the Corsair 2000D, due to the all angle open mesh design and footprint size on my desk. My specs are Asus B650E-I, 7950X3D, Noctua NH-U12A CPU cooler, Corsair SF1000 psw, 64gb G skill rip jaw 6000mhz, gigabyte 4080super non oc version, which the gc fits perfectly in the 2000D and topped with 3 slim notcua chromax fans for the front and I was able to attach a 140mm notcua fan on the top side radiator bracket which was able to fit with the cpu cooler. I absolutely love how the built came out but what I don’t like about the case is the positioning of the motherboard for cable management, especially with the display cables. I also wish Corsair kept the top exhaust design for the airflow to be in that design. But in the end, a solid choice. I already am eager to build in another case, which my eyes had heavily been on the Ncase FormD T1, I would end up switching to an aio, the lian-li Galahad 240mm one. I’m just holding off just because I really would love to see what everyone else’s comes up with. As I know for your first case, it wouldn’t be here for a while and I’m excited to see when you finally are able to have it be released. From that sneak peak at the end, it definitely has the beautiful machine design to it and the color tone is spot on for me. I wish you the absolute best on this project and I can’t wait to see what fresh designs you have in store. One thing for me if cable management could be worked into an itx case, it seems overlooked but understandable in order to make such compact cases. Besides all that, thank you for being a huge part of my pc build. You and many other builders in UA-cam makes it such a fun project on Pc building!
by the sound and look of it, seems like ncase m2 is about to get some competition which is great
I'll be watching you closely, I'm very curious to see how it goes from paper to the actual stuff, as I want to do the same (at my scale tho, only compatible for me). Very fun to learn about all the cool stuff like cross flow fans, fan optimisations (check out fan showdown), gpu orientations, ducting...
7:57 Bros watching Arcane in the corner of his eye
Can't wait to see how your custom design turns out! Will you be making the 3D scans of your components available to the public?
Cant wait to see the product
Nice !
I'd really like to see something well done under 18L that supports dual 280x30mm rads with standard fans. Here an idea that I haven't seen yet for ITX case - transformer case that can be both standard (horizontal and vertical GPU mount) and sandwich layout. That should fit everyone's needs for air and liquid cooling. It's just taking the idea of adjustable spine a bit further.
The sandwich layout is great for custom loops as it allows easy access to each component, and the standard is more suitable for air cooling.
The rads should be top and bottom + mesh sides. Rad mounts should allow access to ports on dual sided rads like alphacool's - easy fill and drain ports.
Basically, I modded a bit the Q58 (mounting holes on the bottom for the rad) to install second 280 rad. It is under 18L, and can handle cooling of any components without excessive noise or a need to undervolt.
This is awesome. Also, I love that you're going with mATX boards and ATX PSUs. For some reason in my country ITX boards and SFX PSUs are almost non-existent, I can kinda stomach paying a premium for the ITX board if it's high quality, but the PSU has been the major deterrent for me, I have a great 1000W Platinum PSU that I love still in warranty, there's no reason to get rid of it, especially if I'm gonna pay more for less. I'm talking like 600W SFX PSUs costing north of 300 USD. There's no way lol.
Where will it be available? I mean what platform? Wishing you luck.
Probably final product will be M2 like layout and sizes. M2, to me is quite disappointing because its an MATX MOBO capable case, but the problem is cant fit those large GPUs unless go for GPU vertical config. But at the same time, you're forced to use AIO (radiator on top) and ITX MOBO.
Hope that it somewhat is couple centimeters wider and taller than M2 in order to fit in better with RTX 4080/90 or even potential RTX 50 series. And also hopefully a vertical stand capable like FormD T1 to reduce footprint on desk.
Let's consider not only what components people commonly use or like today, but also the market for the next two years, by projecting what new components may get more popular. The material cost isn't the big part; your pricing has to bear the high cost of mold making. So, not everyone loves small form factor is your customer, I suggest you target those who love to put high-end components in a small chassis. I see you are already on this path by starting with MATX. Cheers
😍 Very interesting project here !
If it can't fit three 280mm rads, it's not worth it.
All the best on your journey!
it will be one of the best cases ever build
love this idea do ittt!!!!!
This is so exciting!!
Cost for the consumer is going to be the biggest factor for this project in the end.
I love your vids for inspiration for my next sff. Gonna go all out rtx 5090 9800x3d in an sff 19 liters or less. Just make your case below $300, and i bet itll be a good contender for me.
Just an off topic question. Where can I buy the helmet that is on your cupboard? looks like tron or daftpunk, right.
I need a Matx case that can fit an additional soundcard
I'm looking for a small form factor case for local large language model AI computer, which requires a top end cpu and one or two very top end RTX GPU cards with the largest memory. As such, it would sit to the side as a second case, as small as practical. This also would suit a high end gaming rig (except the possibly up to 64 core Epyc cpu, but 16 core any amd cpu is practical instead). Do you have anything reviewed which might fit, or anything you plan to review? Thanks?
How about Mode Design styles? Would be a banger to configure a case like this
Since following your channel, I have postponed it over and over again to buy my new PC, which should be SFF. Now it might pay off, as I am confident that your case could be the perfect fit. Just dont forget to add at least 2 Front-USB (type C & type A), which always was kind of a downside for me when it comes to the Nanoq....
And: Please make it available in Germany ;)
I'm really hoping for something amazing here, I have been flipping back and forth from this case of that case not really satisfied. The only one that I really liked is xiikii FF04 but I can't pay $700 plus just for a case. Putting my hopes on you buddy thank you so much
I am looking for a Micro ATX MB with an ATX PSU. I am using an APU so I don't need room for a GPU. I have looked at HTPC cases but most of them lay flat and I want to minimize the foot print. Height is not a problem but width increases if the case case supports a GPU. Any suggestions on existing cases? I believe your case will support a GPU. I guess I am looking for a tower HTPC case.
wow what a cool box bro
Super exciting stuff man!
Make an case with a handle like a lunchbox for easy to carry for LAN parties
Good luck with the journey. Hope some updates will be along the way.
I think you should make an ITX version for the people that want max space efficiency
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
The best of Luck on your journey! Im enjoying your videos!
very cool and exciting
that render looks sick...
I love Arcane too mate...
At printables you can check out pc case models made by others for inspiration.
Hey what leather brown backpack do you use?
