In Australia. I use Nulon or Penrite fully synthetic transmission oil Low Viscous. Transfer case fluid is the same as auto transmission fluid. Both using the same type
I have the 4.8is V8 , I can feel a judder when i am flooring it, doesn't do it when i drive slow, its only when im gunning it, it feels like something is pulling it back intermittently , do you think that is the Transmission fluid and the Transfer case fluid begging to be changed? or do you think it's something else?? Many thanks.
I have the exact same symptoms with my x5 E70. There is a slight judder when I drive it over 50+ mph, and it feels like the car is being pulled backwards right around when it wants to shift gears. The moment it shifts, it feels like it slingshots you forward for a split second. Let me know if you found a solution for yours.
Great video! I have two questions for you on the same early-type transfer case (i.e. 2001). 1) Can you use Dexron VI, as Dexron III is not readily available anymore? I believe Dex VI is a bit less viscous than Dex III when new, and am wondering if that would cause any issues since Dex VI did not exist when this transfer case was made. 2) I see that you just drained and filled and there is a bit of a well at the bottom of the transfer case where a minute amount of old fluid remains and perhaps some metal shavings? Would it be worth it to squeeze in another half or full liter of fluid to try to flush that out before closing the drain plug and refilling? Thanks!
2004 should have the later Xdrive transfer case which would take the BMW transfer case fluid. I would first check to confirm which transfer case you have, as they changed from 2003 to 2004
@@MTechGuy thank you for your response I am not a mechanic how would I check what's transfer case I have. I took a picture of the plate that's on the transmission would the information Be on it?
Nice to see you still have the X5 and you still do videos on it. Youve been helping me a great deal with your videos!
That’s great to hear. Yes gets driven pretty much everyday- family wagon.

Hey mate, would love a Radiator Flush and fluid replacement video for the e53, about to tackle it on mine! Thanks for the e53 vids!
you are a star ...Thank you
Do you have crazy long arms to reach in there? I’m not sure I could reach that far under my E83 X3.
It shouldn’t be difficult with the vehicle up in the air
@@MTechGuy thx. I’ll give it a go.

I’ve used the Penrite fully synthetic ATF before, it’s good stuff!
thanks a mill

If you can’t get Dex III, go to the dealer and they can supply you with the correct fluid against your VIN.
Drain and refill is fine
Valvoline Maxlife DEX VI works great for our old e53’s. Transmission and TransferCase.
Hello my friend, does damage to the MAF air sensor cause a shock in the gearbox?

The easiest way to tell is the later style has an electric motor/actuator fitted to it
@@MTechGuy I guess the best way is for me just to go to BMW and give them the VIN number and let them give me the correct fluid
@@MTechGuy thank you very much for your reply
