I've watched the original version of this scene so many times that I've started thinking of how it would sound in English (with proper lip synching). And I always find myself imagining Aigis specifically saying, "Do you remember? The promise we made that day? You promised... You have to come back to ME!" *bro LOCKS IN*
It really hits different when you know the that name of the attack is 'death' itself. It's not a world ending disaster such as Ragnarok or Armageddon where death is just an effect. "Death" Has only one purpose - to kill. No destruction caused or intended. And even that fails to take down Makoto here.
I wouldn't say its job is "to kill." That's making a villain out of death - but that's antithetical to the themes of the game. Its purpose is to bring about an end to life. It is a natural end. The reason it doesn't take Makoto out is because it is something he has already come to terms with. Nyx cannot take from him what he is willingly giving away for the sake of everyone else.
The movie really sells Yuki as a character for me. He may act like he doesn’t care, but he loves his friends and the people he’s met on his journey so much, they are the only thing that keeps him moving forward. God I’m crying
Makes it even better when the “BURN MY DREAD” is timed with the fire attack right after (haven’t played in months so I don’t remember what the name of the move is called)
I remember there being an edit like years ago when the movie came out and the edit was pretty sick and has been living rent free inside my head. I've been searching everywhere on and off since last year and couldn't find it probably got copyrighted but I'm glad you remade it. Props dude.
I love this scene and I love the P3 movies! In my opinion, these 4 films are the best way to experience the story of Persona 3, pre-Reload that is. These films are a masterpiece, my favorite anime films of all time!
I agree, the persona 3 games are good and the answer is a good ending, but the movies are way better just because makoto is not the avatar of the player, so he has emotion and thoughts true to himself, there's also how the party members are different in the way they interact with makoto, giving them a lot of depth
I’m pretty sure the original video cut the music from 1:59 straight to 2:36 . It makes the music line up better with the scenes. Anyway really glad someone made another ost edit of this. They should’ve just used this music in the movie for this scene from the start cuz it fits way better than what they actually went with.
@@lazyspongie Yeah but otherwise the starting bits line up perfectly. Thanks a lot for making this, the og one getting taken down was honestly a major bummer so I’m glad someone made another one. I would’ve done it myself if I had any editing skills to speak of 🤡
tbh i feel like a new p3 anime would just feel like a huge step down from the movies no matter what they do. it would probably have more time to flesh out the story and the other characters but stuff like makoto, aigis, ken, shinji, and ryoji were done so well that the new anime not just copying the movies 1:1 would feel like a massive downgrade narratively. to me the movies are more like a companion to the game where their main focus was fleshing out makoto's arc and they did that perfectly so i don't think a new anime adaptation is needed, especially since reload doesn't have enough story changes to warrant it
@@lazyspongie Also the fact that Yumi Kawamura is stepping down now and personally I don't dig the new singer for Persona 3. The movie is IMO the best version of the sound tracks and there's no topping it.
Makoto defeats death himself and he resigns himself to his fate cause he made invaluable friends and he’s intimate with death, the moment he knows he’s going to die he burns his dread away giving humanity a second chance and allowing his friends to live on
Imo, P4 is as good if not a close second, P3 is about finding the meaning of life; the reason why it's worth living and why nihilism is wrong, P4 is about seeing the truth no matter what, to accept and look at the things which everyone willfully looks away from, both have strong endings and their messages just hit so hard
It’s a bit different from the one I watched years ago. Plus Igor says “You were the best guest I’ve ever had” and I felt that. When did it change to “You were a remarkable guest.”? This one just doesn’t touch the feels like the OG one.
People making these edits are missing the point of why both themes are switched and why it doesn't work in context. Nyx Avatar's fight is intended to be seen as Makoto always on the back foot, the oppressive tone of Burn My Dread Last Battle fits better in this context because it's intended to create that feeling that he really is fighting a losing battle. Hence when Self-Redemption starts and it turns the tide to a more hopeful conclusion. In the case of Nyx's Core, The Battle For Everyone's Souls gives it the triumphant moment necessary to make it the heroic sacrifice, coupled with it juxtaposing with the final conversation with Igor in the Velvet Room. The song is an arrangement of Aria of the Soul and thus having it be associated with Makoto unlocking the Universe Arcana in this moment is the ultimate payoff of those scenes. I get wanting it to be like the game because that's nostalgic, but it doesn't work because movie and games are two different mediums. And to be honest, I always felt that they should have been in the spots where they are in the movie anyway. Especially since The Battle for Everyone's Souls is a triumphant piece of music that gives the impression that they are going to win if they push hard enough, rather than fighting against something undefeatable. Sure, Nyx's core is meant to be that too, but considering it ends with Makoto defeating Nyx by sealing her away, that doesn't feel right.
battle for everyones souls really doesnt fit the emotions in the movie scene imo. it kinda just sounds like "generic" battle music over whats meant to be a climactic and emotional scene and the song really doesn't do that for me, even if it fits the velvet room stuff
@lazyspongie that's your opinion, but I disagree and for the reasons I said. Trying to retrofit it isn't going to work for the reasons I said as it's not intended to have that tone that Burn My Dread Last Battle is meant to have.
Also, these edits just don't work because the sound mixing with the scenes is never quite lined up anyway. Whereas the scenes in the movie are paced to the tracks.
@@NemesisSP I dunno man I kinda think the exact opposite. Battle for everyone's souls fits more tonally as a desperate battle. Burn my dread has more of a sense of finality to it. Lyrics literally about throwing away any last vestiges of doubt and fear and sacrificing it all in one final blitz.

@@MrCrimsonMaster The new opening still has "burn my dread" as a big part of the lyrics so the impact is still there thematically, it's just less obvious to newer fans since they won't be able to immediately connect the titles of the songs
