Let’s all pretend to be shocked the US Government failed at something else again!
Better yet, just keep on keeping on as if they don't matter. Because they don't!!
But US Goverment is now failure supercharged since the Failure in Chief got control of it.
Private equity has nothing to do with this? I'm not saying the government is free of blame. Rather, I agree with you. The government should have passed laws preventing private equity from purchasing homes.
The Federal reserve, isn't even part of the Government.
boomer think. get it right. its at your metaphorical dinner table. doubling down of failed authoritarian consumerist mentality.
One of the hardest things about the last couple years, I think, is doing everything you can to put yourself on the right track and get ahead, and still get no where. Working hard, making smart choices and still being a "loser" is a tough bill to swallow.

The govt should never have allowed institutions to buy family homes. Best solution is to tax the hell of such institutional ownership. Get those houses back on the market for the average American.

We are witnessing the rapid downfall of this country and it’s sad. Housing, cars, groceries-all not affordable. The situation is dire.
As someone who has a few decades on you, my advice is never wait for the government to come to the rescue. You'll be waiting a long time, possibly forever.
Government is run by former business (and current) people. Are we surprised that the federal government hasn’t regulated the housing market? Real estate, the number way rich people make wealth? Are we really surprised the lobby / donor class aren’t regulating housing?
No shit
I blame our government for for taking as much money as they can from us and giving it to other countries....we need to stop paying them and start taking care of our own like other countries do
You are correct
Foreign aid is like 1% of the budget. People love to whine about it for some reason even though it's basically negligible. How about you start complaining about the huge number of retired boomers drawing social security and Medicare? That's where most government spending goes. That and military, and now interest payments.

Crazy thing is... IF people stopped buying... prices would drop.. that goes for everything

Or even crazier.. if people keep buying and lose just enough equity can’t refinance and have to sell or.
It’s not the people buying, it’s corporations
Immigration is out of control as well, which does contribute to the scarcity
Which is why we should have raised interest rates faster to halt the buying. Instead Biden chose the long slow painful route.

I'm 64 and don’t have this problem, but im very sympathetic to those who do. I bought my first house when mortgage rates were 13.5%, but even then it was much more affordable to buy a home. The Federal government's outrageous deficit spending has created an intolerable situation.

Depending on where you are, if you bought before prices went up, it's not all rainbow and roses either. Your home price went up 50% also means you're paying so much more in property tax, insurance, etc.
not in California
@@joshmartorana5145 how so?
CA has prop 13. Your property taxes are based off the original sales price and caps increases at 2 percent/year. It was intended to keep older folks from losing their homes, but now there’s A LOT of debate on the merits of said prop

You still have to deal with increased property taxes on your home, which isn't as bad, but it still awful.
oh yes, it is depending on which state you live in.
Great video. I'm a mortgage banker. The Fed and the government have created a real big mess of the mortgage and real estate industry.
The other side of this is even many homeowners who have less than 3%-4% rates took out a ton of debt during 2020 and 2021, mostly in the form of credit cards. Now they have adjusted and costing them 25%+ APRs.
Now I am using equity from clients to pay off their debt...
Fannie and Freddie are even exploring bringing back 2nd lien products for this.
There are a lot of moving parts and it will be interesting to see how things work out.
I love the way you get straight to the point. Thank you for sharing.
Brian you are so nice to comfort folks. You are a good man.

My pleasure and thank you for the support wutabeta!
As a first time home buyer making under 50k I can promise that those bonuses will do absolutely nothing for us. House prices need to come down substantially, the interest rate needs to come down substantially, or the price and interest rates need to moderately come down together. The interest rate dropping down to 4-5% would greatly help with these prices. 7% would be no big deal if the houses near me were 70k less where they would be normally. It’s unaffordable and I have a 25%+ down payment on top of that. 700-900 sq ft homes with a subpar refinishing are now officially going for 200k+. Investors are paying cash and flipping with cheap finishes. It’s absurd.
Thank you Brian, everything you say is thoughtfully presented and heartfelt…

Where i live, i see dozens of small to moderate homes, nothing obvious wrong with them, being demolished for enormous mcmansions that fill the entire lot. $400k+ homes. Oh, and huge apt buildings. I believe there's a plan to trap all ppl making less than 100k/y into perpetual renting.

Depends, where’s it located?
110 acres? how much are your property taxes?
Obviously, it's in the middle of nowhere. An acre is 175k where I'm located. That means if your land with no house was located here it would be worth over 12 million dollars. You must be full of sh#$. But you can't see moving in current conditions.😂

Delivering the hard truth - prices will NOT go back down, likely ever
Until they start to burn cash and take it out of the system, why would it?
they will in florida and already are in texas. Housing markets are local and everyone is different. Places with high inventory won’t be able to keep prices as high as they were during the pandemic inventory crunch
That’s the same kind of BS people were saying before 2008. I really think the only people who say this are naive, or they are homeowners who don’t want to accept that their houses are going to inevitably depreciate when the bubble pops.
I have watched the housing market crash several times over the past 40 years and every time the housing market people are saying that the price of housing never drops. Just be patient because the investment firms are going to get nervous and want to sell before the market crashes so that will start the crash.
If that happens we will have the greatest depression in history! 100%
There needs to be an entire system overhaul in our gov’t. Clean house, etc. there’s is so much that needs to change 😢😢
Thank you Brian for your diligent work and research on the housing market and your compassion for those involved in this sad mess.
