I bought my first mountain bike in 1982, I remember the push back from hikers at the time.
With that said, slow down around pedestrians. Just be respectful, if not the Karen's are going to rage for restrictive e-bike laws.
I Agree 100% !!!! I ride normal bike every day and it’s really comes down to respect for others. In golden gate park people on electric bikes ride like idiots super fast and you can’t hear them really so it’s not safe to ride fast up onto people on a regular bike .
Yeah ill slow down but Karen's shouldn't be writing laws in the first place. If a pedestrian gets hit, they can sue and whoever is there can rightfully kick the riders ass. Im pretty sure that's common law.
@@absolute757 From what I have seen these guys are very respectful. Being on a pedestrian trail you should have a spotter in the front at all times. A small child could get killed if they run out in front of the bike. Hit the wrong man's family and you could end up losing yours.

This is exactly why I sold my dirt bikes and four wheelers. Less and less places to ride, and way too many negative encounters. Even when riding responsibly and being courteous to others, we get a hassle. All the legal trails get shut down because of guys breaking the rules and being disrespectful. I now have to drive a minimum of 3 hours to get to trails to ride… just not worth it anymore.
I sold my big dirt bike because I needed so much space to have any fun and got a little yamaha 125 big wheel and just made a couple of pit bike tracks on my own land. Then I paid 3x as much for an E-MTB so I could peddle my heavy ass all over the hike/bike trails.
Same here in the UK, it's all the rich boomers, they've bought up all the property so nobody younger can afford shit because we pay their mortgages for them, getting by is a struggle like it's never been, so you try to get out in nature to have fun with your hobbies, you're respectful, safe, courteous and these same people abuse and harass everyone out of public spaces using the state that's made them so privileged as their weapon, because "MINE MINE MINE" Not all but a lot of, selfish, entitled af people from that generation who stole their kids futures and now want their kids out of their recreational areas. Perhaps the very sight of younger generations reminds them deep down of how rich they got cannibalising the financial futures of subsequent generations. I can't even kayak down river without some boomer fisherman screaming totally unnecessary, disproportionate abuse at me because it's 'his river'. I wish I had skin thick enough to not GAF but it causes me more stress than it's worth these days, so my hobbies are now largely confined to staying in and keeping tf away from society, and they wonder why there's a suicide epidemic in younger people, no in fact THEY don't, they just say we're weak, 'because iphones & netflix, oh and don't forget dem damned immigants'. Those people turned me misanthropist, a totally natural reaction to an overly powerful, overly privileged section of society that's both selfish, & ignorant af.

I grew up in that town and the rangers are fairly strict. Years ago they were actually doing speed traps down that first big hill, the paved one. I think they had a hiker get hit by a MTB going way too fast. I kind of agree with others here, this might not be the spot for it and could draw negative attention towards your Ebikes.
as long as its legal its the officers that need to be educated. i remember when drones first came out same thing happened cops were claiming u need permits and all this and all that now its pretty much permitted everywhere. there was a point around 2015-2018 u would see no drone signs in parks and stuff now its very rare to see no drone signs, same thing with those hover boards, places like malls and stuff started to ban them but now im sure u can ride it in any mall because it just became comon place. same thing will happen with these e bikes. the more everyone is educated the. u will be able to ride them wherever in a few years
One thing I would recommend is keeping the stunting on major highways around a bunch of people to a minimum. If only to keep us off the radar… we don’t need anti-us laws coming our way.

So true. Even with random people I have been stopped many time by kids that seemed genuinely interested in the bike but then they start asking sketchy questions and I’ve felt threatened many times as if I was about to be jumped and it was gonna get stolen.

I’ve been riding mountain bikes for over 20 years. Now I ride an e-mtn bike. Mostly cuz I’m older now and I want to ride for fun, not a workout.
I get guys saying shit to me, even though I’m actually riding slower in most cases than I did before. I stop for horses, I slow down for other riders and pedestrians. There’s no reason to regulate any ebike from any trail. The laws were imposed by city councils who don’t understand that this is the wave of the future. Ignorance.
Having said all that, posting videos of you doing wheelies on trails ain’t gonna help the cause. They’ll just ban all ebikes from all trails, all it’ll take is one rider to cause an accident or run into a horse.
They already are banning us dirtbike riders from trails we made that Mtb riders now took over. I still ride them and don't care what anyone says. If you have a problem too bad I was here first.

I don't mean any offence but did you consider erosion when you cut them at whatever age you were?
When I was young we (with permission cut horse trails through park land/wild woodland. About a decade later the neighborhood grew up and kids with dirt bikes found the trails and started riding them even though they weren't supposed to.
I didn't care I liked bikes but then a few years latter the hills started becoming impassable due to erosion following the bike tracks. Horses don't make canals that allow water to flow unimpeded they make round holes that catch water.
This is why many woodlands have banned wheeled vehicles.
@@ghz24 For one horses are more expensive then dirt bikes. For two,who did you ask permission from? Dirtbike riders have been working with forestry for years way before Mtb were invented. That was my point. As for the erosion I'm pretty sure housing developments and paving over beautiful mountains and valleys is worse then dirtbike trails through the woods.
@@xafbxmoto269 We got permission from the county park and pleasure district that owns the land. I was young so not sure if it was specifically granted or just checked for allowed use.
Likely the latter because the parents bought the land nearby partly due to the park land being an 1/8th mile down the way.
Nice perk if you want people to board their horses at your stables. Lots of the trails farther away were on private land that they had to hunt down the owner to ask permission, mostly farmers who farmed the flat bottom land but owned the surrounding wooded hills as well.
I do get your point cutting and maintaining trails is work.
Over development is bad but dirt bikes can reach and damage areas that won't be developed anytime soon if ever.
I do think there should be areas designated and developed for dirt bikes. If they have nowhere to legitimately ride they will go everywhere/anywhere to ride.
I don't see why mtn bikes and dirt bikes can't use the same trails and I can understand why both might not appreciate horses using them.
I don't understand the rub between the two kinds of bikes. Maybe drawing unwanted attention. I don't see why these bikes would be banned from the first paved trails they were on, providing they mostly keep to speed limits and don't interfere with it's intended use.
I really hope inconsiderate people don't ruin e-bikes being allowed on parkland bicycle trails, the behavior of these riders is a threat to continued access for people who aren't interested in how fast or crazy they can ride.
As a Suron owner for years I agree with many people here that you are shooting yourself and fellow Suronsters in the foot when you show out like that in the wrong places. I've ridden that trail and many others and never had a negative encounter. Many people even stop me to ask about the bikes- cops included. I believe the reason is I respect others right to enjoy the environment in there way. Posting it here doesn't help the cause. I'd hate to be restricted on my Suron because of stuff like this. Please think about it and chill out. There's a time and place for everything. Enjoy.

To be fair to the darren, if you were taking those up and down mountain biking trails that would tear the trail up pretty quick. Theres a reason dirt bikes aren't allowed on them either. People volunteer and work their ass off to make those trails so don't be a dick about it.

That dude was a Karen for sure but he was not wrong. All of our MTB trails in central Oregon have 'No E bikes' signs, I think that's what that Karen meant by "our trails". I have a dual sport and would love to get an e bike, I love it all but If you're riding on designated MTB trails that's not cool.

There are mtb guys that do build off-trail single tracks, and they get established.. But yeah then they think they own them afterwards. Some of these same guys bike on muddy wet trails and destroy them. Horses will and can destroy the shit out a wet trail too. That guy was a whiny poosie though.. Out of touch dork. Trails are meant to be enjoyed and shared. Ebikes make little to no impact on a trail. They are the future; and they are a ton of fun.

Most of my local trails tend to have a bit of sand and soft pack. So I will baby the throttle to not leave any ruts for our human powered boyos and ladies. Trail maintenance and care I think is what this all boils down to IMO. But agree, get a shitbird who gives zero fukks about tearing up stuff on a new ebike.. And it ruins it for everybody. As someone who rides all these streets and trails, I would suggest being more low-key because pedestrians tend to get upset. I for one, wouldn't like to have these bikes coming through the canyon when I'm on my mtb. Just be respectful

there wont be any respect or consideration for the risks to others, there are way too many people who dont use these ebikes/motos than ones that do, and of those, most will be looking to upgrade volts and amps etc to make them faster and then go out and wheelie streets, start whipping down mtb routes and ped trails etc and arguing with people and throwing karen insults about they are just bikes.. and then new laws will likely put a lid on stuff and everyone loses out.

Besides that as a suron owner and owner of zero Electric dirt bikes I ride only in OHV designated areas. I don't understand why these guys ride dirt bikes on the pavement all the time when they're designed for off-road use and it's illegal to use on streets.

While I don’t like the way the Mountainbiker talked to you guys I kinda understand why he is pissed. Building a trail is a ton of work and by riding them with motor-bikes the trail gets damaged because of the high torque and the higher weight.

Making friends I see. I ride both mountain bike and dirt bike. The two conflict all the time but I always just think whatever it takes to get someone outside.. I don't care if you use a mini bike. Scooter. Suron .. skateboard. Motorcycle.. bicycle.. people should just get along and enjoy nature. Whatever it takes to get people out.

@@scammer9348 Yet everywhere I am aware of classifies them as Class 3 (even with pedals) in some places this will require you have a class M in others it's perfectly legal.
When you remove the limiter like these guys clearly did, they become motor vehicles which would place all the restrictions that a motorcycle has (pedals or not)

To be fair, bikers are not too keen on electric MTB's as well. Basically, anything motorized on the trails since it tears up the trails faster. Being low key is definitely a factor.
Walkers ain't happy with bicycles either, everyone want's the space for themselves and their preferred way of enjoying it, just the older the mode of moving though these landscapes the more entitled those people using that mode feel to the space. There's enough space out there for everyone but human mentality on the most part is like toddlers screaming 'MINE', selfishness & entitlement. Which is, at it's root, why wars start and people kill other human beings, it's something we need to all be more aware of and keep in check but it's never going to happen. I don't like horses, I find them intimidating on trails but I respect their right to the space, shame it's rarely reciprocated.
@@10aDowningStreet I've found in my experience that walkers/hikers are the worst offenders when it comes to trail etiquette. I'll run into them on obvious dedicated bike trails, walking 4,5,6 abreast blocking the trail. Even on the coastal bike trails (The Strand), they choose to walk in the bike lanes rather than the pedestrian lanes provided to them. They'll walk right across you without looking and then freak out when you ring your bell or call out your intention to pass...in the bike lane. The point is that even walkers aren't innocent. All we can be is considerate out on the trails.

@@tb3780 I have lots of respect for all forms of riding on two wheels. We just all have to do our best to be respectful to others out there. Electric bikes are in great for people with disabilities and people that are not fit for riding a regular bike. It is hard to really qualify Sur Ron’s as a E bike. Modern E bikes are there for a pedal assist not a crank the throttle and go sorta thing. More like an Electric Moto. Nothing wrong with that, but there are reasons that regular Moto’s ain’t permitted on single track trails. This class of ebike that’s not a pedal asset it’s tearing up trails, which isn’t cool for those of us that are big into the biking community

@@absolute757 Dirt loosens up in general even with regular bikes. Dirt bikes have the potent to add wear onto trails faster. Look at a motocross track and the ruts that form there. It’s very hard for pedal bike users to make ruts in trails. Those ruts once formed on single track leads to trail erosion which is difficult to maintain, and most of the time just have nasty water sits in them. Trails sometimes stay unmaintained for long periods of time. Which is frustrating for those that try there best to keep the trails clean, smooth, fun to ride. The MTB community has put lots of money and many man hours to help support trail building and maintain.

Seriously though, pissing off people while trying to introduce a new way of transportation isn’t going to help the laws brought down in the future. The SurRon definitely is a game changer and that’s why it’s in a gray area, right now. Will it have to be registered and street legal? Will it be excepted on bicycle trails? All up in the air.

These bikes have some crazy control. You ride on dirt and don’t slip, you can trust that the bike will give even power and retain traction on one wheel at high speed, the lack of fear gives me the impression that these are some very solid bikes. I have had some bad wipeouts due to my ebike loosing traction and parts breaking / falling off / getting stuck in the wheels while riding.

I live in a small town in Idaho and so far the cops are just “interested” in my SurRon (it’s the only one I have seen here). I’m really interested in upgrading to 72 volts. I’m 79 years old and I especially like the lightness of the SurRon, but I would like a higher top speed.

All I can ask is that you respect the people and help recondition trails as a volunteer. I am 67 years old and can see my future trails disappearing because I have to ride a pedal assist bike because of physical needs. Please don't cause people to ban any electric bikes because you are out destroying the trails and pissing off the tax payers wanting to use what they have worked for.
I’ve been a mountain biker for most of my life, and only recently have seen e-bikes on my local trails, in fact I have seen a guy on a sur ron at my local park. I personally hate it when someone is going down trails I’ve labored over for years with nothing but a throttle and motor. (Most of my trails have forbidden the use of motor operated vehicles) I hike the same trails when it rains or when my bike is broken, and I do get where most hikers come from with the whole “trail bike takeover.” The “Darren” guy was a total dickhead but I get where he comes from. Other than that, I actually think throttle e bikes are really awesome.
Who cares let everyone have fun it ain't your trail so get over it I'm pretty sure he's just mad he ain't got an e bike and that's why he mad cause he has to pedal

It comes as a class 3 ebike aka 25-28mph but if you do mods like these guys its now non legal off road use only aka your own property.

I am all for you guys having fun. And I really don’t like people harassing you for no reason. But a lot of the time you guys kind of give them a reason. Be courteous, if someone’s walking a trail and you are kicking up a lot of dust try slowing it down when you see them coming. And No BS on paved roads . You guys are having fun but if you fall in front of my car and I can’t stop in time… it would destroy me to hurt or kill someone on a bike (motorized or not).

Sure, if any of you were actually riding a class 2 ebike with a top speed of 20mph, or a pedal-assisted class 3 ebike that tops out at 28mph. But since NONE of you were on an actual ebike with pedals as described in the law, it basically says you must be on a moped. Whether you like that classification or not. Sorry!

I remeber the time I went on a roller coaster after a meal and 8 beers, I vomited all over some e-biker in front of me and made a poo in my pants but they were okay about it. Most e- bikers are cool.
