It's only mercy of God to get without the compensation . This song is a Requiem for Princess Margarita who died in the middle of life . Greeting from mysterious Japan
Another possibility suggests, "The original piano version of the Pavane was composed in 1899 and dedicated to the Princesse Edmond de Polignac (otherwise known as Winnaretta Singer), a French-American musical patron who was also the daughter of the nineteenth-century sewing-machine magnate, Isaac Singer. The orchestral arrangement wasn’t premiered for another eleven years." (www.classicfm.com/composers/ravel/music/maurice-ravel-pavane-pour-une-infante-defunte/)
Ashkenazy at his sublime best. His piano recitals are greatly missed on the world concert platforms nowadays.
Hats off for his graceful and sollowful and beautiful performance
It wears well no matter how much I listen to Ravel’s music

ashkenazy never fails to bring tears to my eyes and this right here is one of his finest examples of musicianship i’ve ever seen
How utterly lovely.
So touching 😭❤️
Ashkenazy’s interpretation reminds me of a beautiful landscape.
Thanks for uploading this video!
my fav as well.

It's a fine performance, even if (to me) it was taken a bit too fast. On the other hand, Ravel himself evidently played it even faster.

When asked why he had named the piece "Pavane for a Dead Princess", Ravel said, "I just like the sound of it. C'est tout!"

la migliore interpretazione della Pavane. Credo. Bello, bello.
Maledetto Ashkenazy se non corresse così tanto

Great thx for upliad
He does a great job with this, especially for having smaller hands. some of the stretches in between fingers required in this piece are quite nasty.
This is surpassingly tender and stylish.
