    Jan. 5, 2024 Thank you sir for sharing a little bit about your personal set-up. Even though I use an Xbox controller on my PC to play FS, I appreciate your brute honesty about this product. My son uses a Logitech (not sure of the model; possibly a G20 or G29??) with side panel and joysticks. The most fun I had with his set up was riding a horse while using the steering wheel to guide it. LOL That was a hoot!! I prefer the simplicity of using the controller but again, I'm glad you showed your set-up and explained the different options and about the overall quality for the cost. Very kind of you sir. Please tell Ms. Beanie hello and give Winnie a portion of warm mash for me. Take care .

    Thank you Scroft, for your time. I currently have a thrust master set up, honestly I don’t like it, I use it for driving games and the 7yo loves it. I am over 50yo and for whatever reason my mind takes me back to 4-8 bit games that came out when I was a youngster. (Atari, calico vision, then Nintendo) one or 2 buttons. Remembering where the button is and what they do is impossible for my mind. As young as you are with the imagination you have an awesome future ahead of you

    Thanks Scroft. Personally, I use G29 from Logitech as well as Trustmaster hotas and throttle, which works perfectly for front loaders etc... But what makes the experience top notch is Track IR. Which gives you the opportunity to lean to the sides, back and forth to see and orientate yourself better when you have to turn corners, place bales and so on. Some may say that Track IR doesn't work for them. But it does for for me. Once you get used to it, it's beyond comparison and and makes the tasks so much easier. With that being said, I could imagine some viewers would get dizzy after a while watching your videos 😅

    Something to consider: For as much as you do play it will wear out. But compare the price to higher dollar units which would also wear out and the cheapness of the unit becomes less important. It is a balance, you pay for quality, but sometimes it is better to buy cheaper more often. My heavy Equipment bundle has held up well, as well as I could have expected. As cheap and crappy as it feels it still works fine. And when it breaks...well, I got my money's worth out of it.

    Thx for showing your behind the scenes, always interesting to see things like that. As for the Hori, hell of a lot of money, but I don’t have to pay, cos I play on PS5, and as far as i know it’s not compatible, although I could be wrong. Thanks for the video. Oh one other thing, you’ve inspired me to build a stand now for my flight simulator hotas joystick 👍greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

    Oh sweet! Looks blinking awesome Scroft, and of course you handle those controls like such a pro! The hubby recently set me up with a new rig for Christmas, but boy have we have troubles getting it all to work for me! The rig itself is advertised for ages as young as 12. I'm 32 Scroft, and the seat is far too big for me haha! My measly height of 4ft 11 sets me so far back I can't even reach the wheel 🤣 I'm a teeny tiny little lady 🙃thankfully I'm also a seamstress and can sew - so my new project (which I'm about half way through) is sewing a 9" thick full on cushion seat to fit over the top. It's a pain to need to finish it before I can use the rig, but not going to lie, making my own personal farming cushion does excite me! Its a deep green corduroy velvet, so very fitting if I may say. Anyway! The things we have to do, to get the set up right huh?! Lol. Happy new year mate. As always, loving the videos 🙌

    20:22 WRT vision in the cab, something I think would be a massive improvement would be pre-sets for where you look. So like when you are reversing, you hit a button and your head turns to a customisable position, then another button returns it. There could be multiple positions you could select (or cycle through to) which let you see different things. Maybe this is something a modder could create?

  • @RamboHackerGaming

    Excellent video, and I love your whole setup and the brilliant idea of building that custom-built stand. Well done!!!
    On reversing, I have that same issue when using a steering wheel, and I find that I usually end up using my controller for backing up.
    I currently have the Logitech G920 with a Simdashboard and Stream Deck, and I am waiting to get either this or the Thrustmaster setup, but I want to see some long-term reviews first to see if they last. Cause, as you mention, it is a significant investment.
    My only concerns on this one are the build quality and that those buttons are really clicky, and I could hear them through your mic. Which could be a concern when creating content.

    Hey Scroft, make sure to set the deadzone in the controller settings to 0 percent. Standard is 14 percent. In your video it seems that the game is not reacting to slight movements you make close to the center position of the wheel.

    • @MrBertstare
      @MrBertstare 6 місяців тому +1

      @@mrdubert9782 yeah, you can feel it too its right before you feel any spring tension.
      Mine has a lot of in/out movement, makes a bit of a scratching/squeal noise if you rotate it quickly. the blinker handles feels like its going to break at any moment.
      I just boxed mine up today to send back after a couple of weeks. I went back to the Logitech wheel. I also have a G29 but the lack of thumbsticks makes it hard to play, you need a controller.
      The joystick on the hori is nice though, a full-size unit is better than the logi side panel. buttons feel about the same.
      I do like how narrow the Logi is and that it comes back towards you and down off the desk, very natural position. also allows you to put he mouse/trackball in-between the wheel and panel.
      I am in the middle of printing a custom mount for the logi side panel to hold a tablet to run sim dash. that should take everything up a notch too. Its like siatek had originally intended for there to be more add ons there are mounting grooves and laces for nuts and bolts on the back side.
      Scroft did a really nice review here, very honest. I think thats the difference when you pay for it vs getting it for free because if you are harsh on the free review you won't get anymore free stuff. see this all the time in my field, wood working.

      In general I am very happy with my Thrustmaster TX wheel. However, in Farming Simulator, I cannot get the Force Feedback to work and I wish the angle of the wheel was more like in a real tractor. Unfortunately the new Thrustmaster farming mounting base is not compatible with my model.

It is my understanding from reading on the giants forum that only USB #1 is force feedback? I dont know how that works but it always fixed my issues.

    The biggest reason I stopped using the Saitek side panel was the cheap and nasty plastic and the clackyness of the buttons. It's difficult to be immersed with quality like that. This is a nice, honest, review of the product, and as you say, any setup will improve your gameplay. I've gone back to controller, for the amount I play FS, it's not worth the expense. I'd like one, but at almost $1000 in NZ, it's firmly in the I can wait bracket.

      I have got to agree with you there. I have also got the Satek side panel plus a Logitech G29 steering wheel. and pedals. The pedals are great and the steering wheel isn't bad. But there are no thumb sticks which I think are really needed. So, like yourself, I too have gone back to just use a controller, keyboard and mouse, I keep having trouble with the Saitek side panel. For some reason, it keeps wanting to walk the person sideways off the map.

    • @MrBertstare
      @MrBertstare 6 місяців тому +2

      @@jonathanmaybury5698 the G29 has the best pedals out of all 3 setups. the Logitech heavy equipment bundle is of equal if not better quality than the hori except the joystick part. Yep, I got the saitek wheel and pedals as well, but I already had the Logitech wheel and pedals, which I love, the side panel was the specific bit I wanted and was so disappointed when I unpacked it. The heavy equipment wheel, pedals, and panel are sitting in a box in the garage now.☹️

      @@MrBuyerman my first setup for FS was the G29 and a used Logitech side panel from eBay. it was fun but the lack of thumbsticks on the G29 made it difficult. I bought the Hori before Christmas but was really disappointed in the quality of it, so I found an eBay heavy equipment wheel and pedal set to compare. I boxed up the hori and tagged it for return on amazon. The price dropped on the Logitech heavy equipment bundle right after Christmas so I grabbed another complete set for 180 bucks and stashed it in the basement incase I have a failure, its can also be used on the PS4 so that could be fun for nephews or when the kiddo get a little older. There is a company that builds really nice custom side panels from Germany I am going to get one of those In may when they release it. If Hori fixes the terrible wheel and turn signal stalk I would combine them together for a great very realistic sized setup.

    Scroft, have you tried setting up the two thumb buttons on your wheel to walk around instead of using the joystick every time? It could become quite annoying. Additionally, have you considered using a head tracker when in the cab? It might be helpful. Also, could you make a more comprehensive video on what all the buttons do? Do you have to set them up, or are they already done for you? As soon as you plug in the wheel, are they ready to go? If so, how good is the default setup? I agree with you that it's not worth the price, and having a spring instead of power steering is not ideal. I have experience with Thrustmaster equipment, and it's always been reliable. However, as you mentioned, it seems like it doesn't have the proper buttons for Farming Simulator.

    the camera thing wont be solved with VR sadly, i hope I didn't break any dreams of yours with that comment Scorft.
    but the problem in FS lies in the FOV and DOF (Field of View and Depth of Field), and that won't change before they start making the camera dynamic and follow the player and not the machine when you are driving, because that's where the real problem is.
    it's one if the reasons why that simple things in the game seems easier to do on foot than in a vehicle and also why super strength and autoload is so popular, the camera on foot while still not dynamic, definitely seems to track the FoV and DoF better, so if they can fix that aspect of the game in the next version, we are golden.

    • @JimKayaker
      @JimKayaker 6 місяців тому +1

      This is a good point VR or head tracking won't affect the 3rd person camera wierdness, but I like head tracking in 1st person so I don't need an extra hand to move my head around when in real life I use my neck to do it. It also does not provide 3D depth perception (VR might?) so I still have to switch to external cam to find out if I have the forks/bale spike anywhere near where the thing I'm trying to pick up, or if I've run it over already.

    • @minkavleren
      @minkavleren 6 місяців тому +1

      @@JimKayaker VR sadly won't solve it, the camera views are static which means they are fixed in place.
      the camera views switches between when you are on foot or in a vehicle, so when you're on foot the player model has its own static fixed camera attached to it and when you enter a vehicle it has its own camera which you can see if you open up an i3d file of a vehicle in Giants Editor, its the same system that giants has used forever basically because its easy, but it also creates the issues we experience with FoV and DoF, you can't really change them.
      you can move them around in the vehicles sure, but all you are doing is basically moving one static view to a new one, but it all comes back to that we cant perceive FoV and DoF very well when every camera view that matters is fixed in place, the only way to solve this is one dynamic camera view that always follows the player model, whether you're on foot or in a vehicle, that will give you the feeling of knowing where your surroundings are in relation to you, your vehicle and then of course having the 3rd person camera for vehicles so you aren't locked into driving in cab all the time.
      so that's basically the thing we are facing atm, some people have tried fixing this issue with mods as Scorft also uses in the farm hand series where you can tilt, lean, zoom etc. but you still dont get the FoV or DoF right with those, because those mods have to work within the confines of what giants has lied out as their standard camera view positions, but as you say, eye tracking and head tracking can be a great tool in some situations, but as you also pointed out, it does not solve the problem since we still have to check manually with other viewing angles.
      my hope in the next game is that they finally fix this now that they have had extra time, its been a thing people have talked about since fs15 in the community that we would like a dynamic camera.

    I was looking at the Thrustmaster set, at least the FarmStick, but it appears to constantly be sold out.
    So far I'm using the Logitech/Saitek Heavy Equipment Bundle. It's fairly good , but it isn't worth the 200-ish Euros I paid. The buttons have started to bounce, and I already have a couple of repairs in. (Broken wires on the side stick, broken solder joints on pedals and the side panel, broken plastic on the pedals)
    The HORI appears to be a good set, but it's worth waiting for longterm experience from people like you, I think.

    Nicely detailed video, and a really nice setup. The sidepanel /joystick looks like an improvement over the logitech saitek farmsim one, but shame it uses the exact same cheap plastic.

    Regarding the 1st person view, in my opinion (and not everyone will agree) it doesn't make a great watch for the viewer. 3rd person view is so much better to see what's going on.

LOL I should probably wait till end of video before blabbing away. Love it buddy now stop fapping and get back to work, got alot to do today..... Speaking of Giants Physics they really need a complete rework for realism but doesn't break the game for me, guess someone could do a physics mod.

    Hey Scroft. Happy new year to you and ms beanie. Could you help with how you built the stand? I was using a racing stand but was too cumbersome in the room so attached the wheel and side panel to the desk and now just don’t use it. Your solution looks great and I love a bit of cable management 😂 absolutely love the idea of Velcro-ing the pedals to the carpet. Doing that in the morning!! Cheers. 0:45

      Hi buddy I did a trip to B&Q and got 1 piece of wider flatter wood for the top which I cut to the width I wanted the desk so it would fit into the L-shaped set up. Then I got 2x pieces of a smaller more square wood which I used for the legs and supports. I cut that to size so it was the right height and cut out the smaller support pieces. I used wood screws i used three different lengths a long one to join the legs and the supports at the bottom of the legs a medium and short lengths to join the brackets to join it together but drilled pilot holes first to stop the wood slitting. The length of the screws would depend on the wood you've chosen. I also got corner brackets to go round the bottom of the legs to strengthen the supports. Also I got 4x 90 degree shelf brackets to support under the table it's self connected them to the top piece and legs. Then some black paint, scroft stickes and some foam pads to prevent the table from tapping against the desk. I think that's everything 😅

    What if giants made a depth perception gauge just next to the mini map that could show distance angle of spikes then bales to wall when on what an in cab immersion experience that would be elevated (hope this comes across okay)
