If you know anything about Prince this is his sound but the bass player Brown mark produced this group it's got Prince written all over it but this was his group
i have this lp. i always thought it sounded a lot like Jessie Johnson. Being a prince head, I love the story about the song kiss. Mazarati would have been a household name if prince wouldn't have took the song back lol Jamie Starr know it was a hit he couldn't part with .
The best thing about their version of KISS was the backings on it. Ive heard their version, it wasn't good. Prince took it back and reworked and kept their backings on it and defined and bodied that song.
*Fun Fact* Mazarati were originally supposed to sing "Kiss" Prince wrote it, and then gave it to the band. Once he listened to the demo, he liked it so much he took it back and reworked it with his vocals. The band can still be heard as backing vocals in Prince's version.
+PaisleyParkFan That's not entirely true. I've heard the original demo of "Kiss", and it was actually written by Mark Brown (AKA Brownmark) who was Prince's bass player in the Revolution and the producer of Mazarati. He handed it to Prince to get his opinion of the track, and Prince decided to "keep" it for himself. :>)
+Rossvegas12345 Sorry, but while I respect your opinion I'm going to believe members of the actual Mazarati band more. facebook.com/1onegunn/posts/10209505639061428
JoJoeVoice, you are 100% correct. Onegunn aka Marr Star of Mazarati is the original lead vocal on the demo as well as one of the back up vocals and played keys on the final. Mazarati members OneGunn fka Marr Star, Tony Christian and David Z were the only collaborators with Prince in Kiss. They assisted with production and arrangements. #knowthefacts
Had just turned 23, myself, in ‘86 & was “bumpin” this & watching the video on Video Soul, hosted by Donnie Simpson on BET, in H-Town. Man, I miss the 80s...😥...Btw, my LA brothers, also in 86, the Rockets upset Lakers (4-1) on Ralph Sampson’s buzzer beater in the Western Conference Finals...🏀
I had Mazerati’s debut album when it was first released and it turned out to be my favorite purchase of 1986. Unfortunately however, they were the first band to sign under Prince’s new Paisley Park label. Which resulted in very little promotion other than 1 single and Prince’s “Under The Cherry Moon” film premiere party in Wyoming. It’s too bad because the tracks are really solid from start to finish. “Strawberry Lover and Lonely Girl on Bourbon Street” are my personal favorites and as far as I’m concerned, both deserved a shot at being released as singles.
It was very clearly that princ was the drive for all these other bands to break out between 1978 and 1987 Prince music was unstoppable they will be never another Prince again princess music will live forever influence other generations as well love you Prince
All of Prince's satellites were on point: Mazarati, Madhouse, Vanity 6, The Family, The Time, Sheila E...even his bad-breakups people had success (Jimmy & Terry producing Janet Jackson to the top, Jesse Johnson, Tamara & The Seen) that proved Minneapolis was unstoppable in the music world all because of Prince! Even the TV show, "Star Search", crowned an 80's Minneapolis band the top winner...was their name, "Limited Warranty?"
Maserati wasn't one of Prince's groups. They were Brownmark's group. Prince gave they a few songs but that was the extent of his involvement. It wasn't like the Time or Vanity 6.
@@LR-zg8pk Since I got the story from what Brown Mark said, you might want to contact him and tell him to revise his story because until he does, THAT'S what I'm going to believe.
@@sirfriendzone1228 Agreed. It might be more accurate for me to say they are part of his Family Tree, as opposed to being a directly-orbiting satellite. :-)
So many great bands had that sound. Of course I love Prince, but him and his bands aside, I would say my 3 favorites would be The Time, Andre Cymone, and Mazarati. Alexander O'Neal comes in at 4th.
Yep, Prince found out about it and took it over, they stupidly rejected Jerk out for its explict lyrics and the rest of their album was fluff. Prince's outtake version of this is even better!
For those who want to listen to the album I published it on an odysee channel you will just have to search for mazarati and normally you will see the 8 tracks of the album appear in better quality but it remains a vinyl copy. And I will put the original uncompressed source in description later. Good listening
