The bird was a Whippoorwill. Growing up in rural north east texas i would listen to them at night. The fire ants and the loss of habitat to urban sprawl has hurt their population. Im glad to hear one and could listen to them for hours.

It's a chuck will's widow. A whippoorwill sounds different. They are often mistaken for a whippoorwill.

Brian, quick Bluetti question. I have an AC240 with B210 expansion. I will be operating a refrigerator cooler on this camp trip which has A/C or D/C capability. Is one better to maximize battery?
D/C is way more efficient. Just to run the a/c inverter takes more power just to keep the inverter running. Plus, you’re essentially converting dc to ac back to dc. So, just go straight dc connection to your cooler👍🏻

Hey Brian, how is the taste of that water from your plastic water can. Everyone I have ever tried has a strong plastic taste.
I haven’t noticed any bad taste at all. I thought I would have, but it’s been good👍🏻
Is there any ventilation when sleeping underneath the tonneau cover or do you leave it slightly cracked open for air?
I kept it slightly cracked. But even if you don’t, it’s not 100% sealed inside there. There’s gaps where the tailgate closes
Great video! I know you said that you didn’t want a topper or a roof top tent,but maybe you should look into soft topper. It can be removed in seconds.

It's great to show people you don't need a lot of gear to enjoy camping. Did you do that on purpose?

Not doing a camper shell. If anything I’ll do another rooftop tent. I’m not a big fan of camper shells anyways.
I have tried several freeze dried meals and I find the Peak are real the best I have tried.

It’s the fun thing about it. I sold most of the stuff so have some cash to start building my new setup with a different style rooftop tent to try👍🏻👍🏻
Oh Brian, all that room in your truck and no extra blankets. 🥺 Hopefully you pack an extra from now on. I use a weather app called Weather Bug and I love it! In the PNW (WA State for me), you're dealing with a lot of drastic high and low temps due to the coastal and mountain climates or eastern side high desert, so I'm in the habit of checking the weather to dress accordingly. I really recommend it for where you live because it has a lightning map with warnings and real time radar that you can track storms. It gives pretty much all weather warnings as well and is pretty accurate. You should give it a try, you can check the highs and lows so you can pack the right gear and be better prepared. You can never have too many blankets. 😉 Loved the colab!

@@BrianWatersOutdoors I didn't have to pay for the app, but I have an Android phone. I'm guessing since you paid for it, you'll probably have features I don't have. I'm glad you got it, I used it constantly.
I had some extra blankets as well, but it got soaked from the rain, luckily I had the extra rain jacket. We faired okay and made it thru the night!

What happened to your rooftop tent.
Had to sell it when I got my new truck. Still deciding on which direction I want to go on this new setup. Leaning toward a small/micro camper type thing
Your other option since you already have the Roof Top Tent is to have gotten a ReTrax Toper with T-rail slots so you could put a rack and your tent on.

Harley, you can camp on a budget, 300.00 you would be able to get a tent and some equipment from walmart. We all started that way. If you need any suggestions, feel free to ask bud.
