Yet another comment for the almighty algorithm. :) Ah well, while I'm here... We live in the desert southwest, where it stays between 105F-112F from June through the end of August, then 100F-105 through September. Even so, I'd much rather put up with our intense dry heat than a 90F degree day with the humidity of Minnesota. I'm melting just looking at you guys. I'm an airline pilot, so I get to spend a lot of time in Minnesota; it's one of my favorite states. The "Minnesota Nice" is rampant... everyone is so friendly. Not to mention the fact that *everyone* takes their job seriously and does the absolute best work they possibly can. The rest of the USA could learn a thing or two about work ethics from the good folks in Minnesota. Fantastic video, Chet. Really interesting to see the process of grain bin construction, and always nice to learn more about spraying and how you guys keep track of your fields. Good stuff.
Really enjoy your video’s, Having worked in industrial maintenance for 40 plus years, I would highly recommend fall protection! There are no second chances. Work smart and safe.
@@kenhofer8063 You're right. But we all fall at the same speed, and we all land with a thud. I fire people for safety violations. Not wearing fall protection, or arguing with me about fall protection will get you put off the job.
Agree with fall protection...went from the farm to construction and you learn fall protection is number one befor we start...the men need to feel safe.
Hello Eric , Mother Nature is not done yet she has not opened her big doors yet. Hello Chet , Dougo , Brody ! That’s a lot of tin scrap. Chet you need ear plugs that is very loud . Do you get dock for stocks being in the beans ? That is how we do our fields keeping a book sheet tracking everything we did to our fields. Thanks for the info on how you keep track of your fields.
Thanks for another great video Chet. It was most interesting and enjoyable. Lots on this video. Many thanks to Eric for explaining the chemicals used on the beans that can be eaten. Very interesting the difference in regular beans. Thanks for going over what you are doing with the beans. Lots of different chemicals for sure. Thanks Eric!!!!! Your new blue water tank is coming along great. That was a good purchase. Working good for your operation. Getting all of the usable items off of the bin to be crushed is important. Lots that can be reused. The construction work being done on the new bins is so interesting. Never guessed they needed that much footing and pad work done to support those bins full of corn. Wow and wow. Pretty heavy duty work. Will be interesting to see it go up. Nice Chet for filming that and explaining to us what is going on. Thanks!!!! Busy time right now with storm damage work and spraying. My compliments to all of you for the great teamwork and getting it done as they say. Coming along great. Good to see Toby. Looking good. He sure keeps busy. About it for now I guess. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything Larsons. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
After everything yall have been through in the last year and a half. It's a blessing to see that you still have a great outlook. Thanks for letting us be a part of Larson Farms.
I used to build new grain bins, take down old ones & rebuild them, & the bins that are standing look salvageable. Can't you have a company come in & fix them?
Getting back to the 500 gpm well, If you do have one installed make sure you have a hydrant installed also. The local fire dept. can use it, with restrictions of course and it may help with your insurance costs also. Keep up the good work.
I am so sorry to see what happened to your farm as well as Zach’s Farm this spring. I am amazed how much you finally got planted with the water problems you had. Take Care and God Bless.
I just drove through Iowa and Indiana there is a lot of volunteers corn . Something I’ve never paid any attention to until I’ve started watching Larson farms!
7 hrs ago, went to look for a hat and its not there! Must've went quick! Im glad no lives were lost, material items can be replaced, at least most of the time anyway. Good to see construction starting already! See ya next time. God Bless you all, He's certainly with you.
Well Chet I don’t think all of together in one place that it would be boring. The new bin sight is gonna be big. The edible beans seem that there is a lot more work to them. Stay safe and positive see you on the next video
A farmer I worked for bought a reefer trailer and set it up for spraying so when they are mixing and stuff and they leave the trailer run about 68 degrees roughly and we loved it
I really appreciate when you guys explain what you are applying and why. I hope the edible beans pay off considering what the price of soybeans is right now.
The first pour is the bin footing. Second pout is the stem wall. Then backfill for the floor. If you have any aeration trenches they will dig those and pour the bottoms. Them they will pour the trench walls and the floor in one pour. And I would bet there is going to be more re-bar in the footing before they are done. LOOKN GOOD!!
I realize this really isn't something that everyone has available, but we were very lucky to buy (in the 70s) an old creamery building with a very large well. Our well pump does 100 gallons a minute so we never had the need to store water. We no longer farm but it has come in handy to re-supply water for fighting fires.
The fact that you are all there talking about the tornado is good!! Underwear can be washed and/or replaced. YOU people can NOT. There are NO more like you. (thank gosh) Your videos are a hell of an education for me that's for sure!! There is SO much going on there is is impossible to know. Without your explanations and lessons, NO one knows. Thanks for some serious education here. I really appreciate the "hands on the cob" examples and explanations. Good luck and good growing weather to you all. Thanks again.
The amount of damage is crazy, those winds are just tearing up everything along with the tornadoes. Thank G-d you have insurance, even if it doesn't cover everything. I pray that no more storm's causing this kind of damager come through. You guy's sure have a lot to get done, and replaced. Thank you for the video's Chet, you are a great team over there. G-d bless y'all.
Some jews (and probably hebrew bible fundamentalists) don't write it out fully out of a sense of making the actual name become too commonplace...and there's soemthing about not being good to erase the full spelling ... there are a half dozen or so specific hebrew names for him. (explained by a fairly observant guy I worked with several years ago, sorry if I got it not quite right).
Hudson floats are ok if there is a pre filter. They also are slow asf when filling. Change it for a jobe float imo. Also check into uniseals in the future as alternatives to bulkhead fittings.
Know all about that rebar. Pour many a tank pad at the local paper mill. The silos set on concrete foundations that the pile cap was 8 feet thick and then 3 more feet for the tank pad took over 13 hour of non stop pouring 2 10 yard trucks at a time to get it done!
Straight line winds,,,, they tear up more then any tornado. I’ve lost buildings, several pivots, crops. Two brand new pivots that never had water in them. Sucks. But it’s all replaceable.
Good evening larson farms. Love watching ur videos and seeing all the great farming that u all do. My wife was woundering if u would be able to show more of Toby and maybe do a video just on him lol. Thank u all for the videos and keep up all the hard work.
The edge built up concrete pour is called a monolithic pour. Much simpler to use a monolithic pour and only place concrete where you need it. Most building on a slab are done this way. For your damaged grain bins. You should be able to bolt a strong back to the tin in a couple of locations, then remove other sheets of tin to reuse on the slightly damaged bin.
You could you use straight panels off the good side of the wrecked bin to fix the damaged bin beside it? Unless it voids your insurance it could be a possibility to reuse potential spares. Could add an extra ring of height too if there was enough undamaged sheets but I'm guessing that could be a redesign of the filler and require an Engineer to sign off on it.
I really like the family vibe ,it does make me sad after losing my father and brother but i will definitely continue watching until either I'm gone or you stop making videos.
The cost of doing business in MN - always had severe weather there that most people dont realize. Lots of straight line winds and twisters every spring/summer. Glad there was no loss of life.
We just got hit with pretty bad straight line winds here in northwest Indiana. We lost 2 bins and our vac system and some neighbors lost 3 bins and a grain leg. Super frustrating but nothing we can’t get through. I’ve never been through something like this before just a lot of irrigators blown over
A bean farmers poem - Beans, beans the musical fruit. The more you eat the more you toot. The more you toot the better you feel, so lets have beans for every meal.
The rebar in the bottom footer should really have a bend in it that goes up into the vertical wall so they are tied together. Maybe they'll come back and add more rebar before the concrete pour.
Interesting some people would buy the salvaged bins to make them into a structures, homes, gazebo, even swimming pools , The ultimate DYI project. saw that recently on UA-cam
I’m with you Chet, I hate heights! You Need a fall protection harness. I’m not a Safety Sally. But they work, in the event of a fall. Keep safe and well all.
With everything that’s changing in the yard it’d be cool to get another fly over of the yard when everything’s done for a new intro
I agree.

Hi Chet
Please Talk more about how you Plan your Field and Things about spraying
My God. It just wears me out just watching you guys work. Still, I can't get enuf of it. You have a beautiful place there. Blessings.
The big swede out her givin life lessons talking about the beans....
Mother Nature can be a meanie. It’s always a surprise. Cleanup takes time and money.
And the plumbing for the top of the tank looks great and yeah bigger pump lol

Bright side is you don't have to worry about the auger motor/pulley freezing to the ground this winter.

Bloomberg was right; anyone can farm, just dig a hole. NOT
The knowledge you guys have is amazing. Great video, keep it up 👍
Bloomberg is a knucklehead of the highest order!
Damn near the dumbest in not the most naive comment ever made in a campaign.....
Doug those orange glasses make it look like the 1970s & 80's outside, don't they!
Y’all are totally awesome in a year of hard times. God please bless these fellas as they work to honor your harvest, Amen.
Lots and lots of work. I hope you have no more storms, and the summer is "boring" for you!! I'm sure you've got plenty to do!

Terrific job on the float Dougo!😉 Great to see you all!

Put a lock on the top lid of that fracking tank. When that is full it can be dangerous if some one trespasses

if anyone was wondering fixing those sheets on other bin should cost 5500 roughly if its just 3 sheets

In house building, the deep concrete around the edge is called a footer. I assume it’s the same for bins bc it does the same thing.
The cost of doing business in MN - always had severe weather there that most people dont realize. Lots of straight line winds and twisters every spring/summer.
Glad there was no loss of life.

They should be able to just replace the few sheets while that bin is standing. We replaced a few sheets like that a few months ago.
GOOD TO KNOW THERE ARE NO CASUALTIES, KEEP DOING THE GOOD WORK
A lot of the bin rings could be used to extend other bins, or as used rings on a new bin the same size.
The Sioux sign on the bin, save it.
