Always love to see what the family has to show and enjoy seeing you guys grow together through this journey
🫶 thanks man!! That is really nice of you! 🤜🤛
I'm SO excited!!! If spring is 1-2-3 weeks ahead of time maybe we can expect the same waaaaay up here in central NYS. Thanks for jumping on this!! I'm a newbie and I've been studying all winter. I know tree ID so have scoped out dozens of locations, I'm out every single day covering a different location each time. Other indicators I've been finding people reporting on, plus observing in vids, are these things in bloom: dandelions, violets, the first of the garlic mustard flowers on a single stalk, crab apple, wild geranium and the ramps are up. Can't wait! We'll see if it holds true that spring progresses north 100 miles a week.
100 miles a week!! That’s a fun fact! We have dandelions and Crab Apples for sure! We will have more Morel vids soon!! Thanks for the comment!
We've been looking for Morels the past few weeks since it's been warmer than is typical this time of year in southern Ohio. But don't overlook oyster mushrooms!!! We've found oyster mushrooms as recently as about a month ago, well into wintertime, with snow on them. (Yes, you can find them even when there's snow on the ground, so they're a great, almost year-round mushroom.) In my opinion, I'd rather find oysters than Morels because I like their flavor better, and they're easier to clean and work with in the kitchen.
Learn what oyster mushrooms look like, and find out if there are any look-alike mushrooms in your area (and also if the look-alikes aren't edible!!!). Our first discovery of oyster mushrooms last year was mid-spring, and there was about 20 pounds on one large fallen tree over a small creek, so there was plenty of the needed moisture for them to produce their fruiting bodies, as well as nice 50s-60s F temperatures during the day. This was about the time morels were about ready to appear and we started finding those within a week of finding that large flush of oysters. We haven't found any flushes of oysters since then that were that large, but we found many smaller flushes, and we (secretly) mark the trees and areas or remember them to check in the future.
Whether we find Morels or oysters, we usually make a hearty mushroom soup out of them. It brings out the flavor of the mushroom better than battering and deep frying them. It's also easier to share soup then fried mushrooms. It seems to make the flavor go farther. I'm not knocking battering them, but I like the soup better.
We've been looking for the black spike mushrooms lately, which are the first to appear in our area, and we will be checking some of the higher ground for them since they seem to start showing up near the tops of hills, then the white ones show up in the bottom areas near creeks and lowlands. We work in our search along with about a 1 mile hike for exercise to keep me in reasonably good health at close to 70 years of age. I enjoy the walk, even if we don't find any mushrooms, but sometimes I come home with a prize of freshly picked oyster or Morel mushrooms.
@@t2000kw awesome DH!! I’m gonna try to find some oysters now! Challenge accepted. I did harvest some puffballs last year and cooked them. They weren’t bad either.
@@t2000kw I've walked these woods behind where I live every single day, for the past three months, and am always on the lookout for oysters but haven't seen any yet. IMHO it seems there are dozens of great habitat spots for all the edibles. Have to agree with you on mushroom prep, I don't care for battered or fried anything. I do however saute and am a big soup maker so of course that's the direction I'm heading. I have plenty of 1 qt. glass jars to share soup with friends. In the woods there are no human trails, only deer trails. There are about a dozen different directions I seem to go. There are a few hilltops, they seem to have only conifers on top. I so love this, I'll be on the lookout for sheds, too. I'm going to try oyster and lobster mushroom soups with fish stock...we'll see how that goes. My eyes are hungry to spot the first greening up of the elms!
@@LouiseAdie-zm2jf That's kind of tragic . Winter w/o oysters feels like a real tragedy !. You couldn't find any oysters at all? We (Ohio)had plenty of rain this winter and enjoyed many gallons of mushroom soup. Maybe you might try a different spot? Or perhaps yours is just not the right onditions for oysters?
Do you have any clever tips or recipes for chicken of the woods? I was very put off by my first taste...are they all supposed to be that...stiff? Not woody exactly but...maybe the ones I got were too old? We got lots but they're still in the freezer taunting me...
Thats awesome!
No way!! I've never seen morrels this early! Wow!!
LETS GOOO!!! 🎉 are you worried about the weather tomorrow? Good job Miley!!! 😀
Hey! Thanks Lacie! I’m not worried bout the weather
You need to wait for a good rain with a thunderstorm a little bit of lightning and they’ll pop right up but good luck
Thanks Michelle!! Have you ever found them that small?
We did had a kool rain last week
@@AdrenalineRushAdventures No but that’s pretty cool
Baby pins!! So cute
In Virginia I have one spot where they pop around march 15 and then blonde’s start around the first week of April. I can’t wait!!!
Get yourself some compact pruners and snips for the bag
Been mushroom hunting my whole life and never seen one that small.
I love growing my own Shrooms 🍄🍄
My first morels of the season are half of my pinky finger fingernail. So tiny... And the only difference between me and you is I don't move a thing. I don't let anyone have any idea I was even there.
This is bad ass. This weather this year is weird
Very strange indeed Mark!! Thanks for watching and dropping another comment! 🙏
Congrats!!!! I can’t wait for the mushrooms to come up here in the northeast 😊
I just subscribed
Thanks John! What state?
@@AdrenalineRushAdventures I am in north east Oklahoma
@@Johngoes.outdoors oh okay. My mistake. Cool
👍 Miley
We are about to go dig up bubbly rocks if that counts. 😎 🤘
Picking mushrooms sounds fun .. 😁
What are bubbly rocks?
You should try permethrin for ticks also it works like a charm
Permethrin. My friend has mentioned that before. I need to do something. He swore by it too.
Just pre spray your clothes though. Not recommended on skin. But I hate ticks. Permethrin works great. Nice early finds.
Man if they are that small imagine how many could get trampled or stepped on just looking for them! Nice job
Thanks man!
I too have to buy a new pair of boots every year. During morele season alone I put in 4:00 hours.
O I totally get the boot thing. And I also have the policy of no morel left behind!!!
It’s hard to leave them! Where are you from Adrienne?
When Redbud and Dog Wood Bloom
Got sponsors now I see lol I wish I was as cool as you
Haha thanks Tommy. Everyone has something they have the knack for. Appreciate the comment man! Hope to see you back! 🤜🤛
When it's Superdry, you don't want to uncover them. Because the leaves are protecting them from the you know air sun or whatever
Yeah. If I wasn’t videoing and trying to let people see, or find the first one by moving leaves. I wouldn’t have uncovered them either. And I usually throw the leaves back over them. I should have this time.
First comment lots goooo 😂
Thanks Hunter!! Appreciate you!
Going this weekend in AR have never found them this early so we will see
I'm in central alabama an first time ever finding them period an they was in my yard. Got 15 for now there still small.
Awesome! Gonna be delicious!
😊good hunting 😊
I went out and looked a few days ago just because everything is early my buddy got some in texas last week
I'm anxiously waiting on the morals and the paddlefish little to cool to noodle yet lol
Awesome job! I live in Northern New York almost up to the Canadian border. Going to be a while before the morels are ready here! But after this coming Thursday the entire 10-day forecast is supposed to be in the '50s and '60s. That is crazy for this area at this time of year. And I have seen so many bird species in the last 3 weeks that normally don't start appearing before mid-March. Glad to see River is doing better now
Thank you Doug!! Much appreciated!! 🤜🤛 I hope yall get an early Spring too!
If the adage of "spring moves north at 100 miles a week" is true then it'll be about 10 weeks before we start seeing morels. Tattooed Granny reported finding morels in ATL on 2/20. I live in the Finger Lakes region so it seems April 30 might be our target date. DO let me know if you see any before then!!! Thanks! (Where in N NY are you?)
@@LouiseAdie-zm2jf I live near Plattsburgh. I have a brother that lives in Waterloo so I've been to the Finger Lakes Region a few times years ago
@@dugel3 Cool!! My daughter lives in Burlington, VT! Small world.
I'm down in Carter County I'm going out today
Let me know how you did!
Dang now I got to go look ! I was thinking that next Tues 3/5 was going to be the day ! I usually go off of 3 x 60 deg nights for them to pop ! Crazy I just found your channel! I'm from just down the road from you guys in wellston oklahoma !
Awesome Nick! Glad you found us. I went back 2 days later and all but 3 were dead…and those 2-3 hadn’t hardly grown…maybe in about a week. Thanks for watching and thanks for leaving a comment!

Nate just to let you know that tick that was crawling on your finger was called a lone star tick it has a white spot on its back if it bites you and is in u for a long time u may not be able to eat meat ever again
Yikes!! Hopefully I don’t have to deal with that!
Just wanted to let you know it’s a hunters worst nightmare
@@greenadventures7567 thanks for the info! Lonestar tick! Eww
You need to use a couple cloves of garlic and rub on you boots and pants I find ticks on me
I may try that. Definitely need to try something
You guys are missing the BIGGEST morel hunting key. I just posted a video on my channel that will make you realize you it has been right in front of your face! I just posted the video to my channel. Respectfully I won't link in your comments.
Too much advertising
Gotta make a living bro
You guys are missing the biggest hunting tip. You guys are hunting directly around them
I’m making a video this spring to help others
Screw hunting the trees it’s something else
What’s the tip?
@@AdrenalineRushAdventures Just posted the video on my channel! Found 6 today here in KC You will go back to your honey hole and even watch this video again and realize. Everyone overlooks it and doesn't correlate it!
