  • Welcome to The Easy Path Project’s Good Money Without College Series. Today we’ll be talking about Crane Operators.
    We’ll answer the 7 top questions you might have about a career as a crane operator, an exciting and well-paying job you can do without a college degree.
    1. What does a crane operator do?
    A crane operator is someone who uses a crane to transport various objects. There are many different types, makes, models and sizes of cranes, such as mobile cranes, tower cranes, boom trucks and self-erect tower cranes.
    2. How much does a mobile crane operator make?
    In 2017, the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that the average, annual crane operator salary was $55,690. Experienced crane operators that are working on large-scale projects may make as much as $84,290. Most experience is gained at a construction site.
    3. Are Crane Operators in demand?
    Crane Operators are in high demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, crane operator jobs are expected to grow 8% from 2014 to 2024. This is slightly above the national average for the universal job market, but well above the national average for highly skilled jobs.
    4. How do you become a heavy crane operator?
    Career Requirements
    1. Step 1: Earn a High School Diploma. Nearly all heavy equipment operating jobs require a high school diploma or its equivalent.
    2. Step 2: Complete Heavy Equipment Training. There are three ways to become a heavy equipment operator.
    You can complete a union apprenticeship, a state apprenticeship, or go to a technical school.
    3. Step 3: Earn License and/or Certification.
    5. Do crane operators need to be certified?
    There are many states that require the certification of crane operators before they can commence work. Most states also require crane operators, particularly mobile crane operators, to have a license.
    6. How long does it take to become a mobile crane operator?
    In order to get the certification, you need to undergo a training course. The training usually lasts for 4 to 8 weeks, some last for several months depending on the type of crane you want to get certification for.
    The initial training is your initial step. You still have to go through rigorous apprenticeship training that usually lasts about 1 to 4 years, though you will be paid for doing the apprenticeship training.
    7. How much does it cost to become a crane operator?
    Many schools offer complete courses ranging from $1,500 to $2500, depending on the type of crane you want to get certified in.
    For The Crane Operator certification program testing, average prices for the written test fee is $165 and the computer test is $205, while the practical exam fee for this type of crane is $60, if you are taking 2 crane types, the practical testing fee is $70.

      Yeah. On another of my videos a guy from the US was saying that my figures were way off and that "Those guys can easily make upwards of triple digits hourly." So maybe the US might be a good destination, too :) Thanks for stopping by.

    Money is great but you also need ground time as a rigger! 95% of most companies will not put you in a crane right out of school because of the lack of experience. It's because of the high risk factors of a new operators. 1 out of 30 people could actually do the job all because of it's not always a parking lot job.

      Thanks for sharing this. It makes sense you'd have to work your way up the ladder. When you have your certification does this qualify you to work as a rigger? Do they teach you on the job?

    • @briancaldwell1798
      @briancaldwell1798 4 роки тому +3

      Yes the will train you on the job rigging for a crand company is the best way to get your foot in the door. CDL class a licenses are required where I work. 1-2 years learning the rigging part will only improve your skills as a operator starting out.

    • @briancaldwell1798

      You don't have to be certified to be a rigger in most companies or to run the crane because you have to be trained on both

      Right on. $80 grand sounds good, but $150 sounds really good. Why are you choosing not to max out your earnings? What would it take for you to reach $150? Thanks for your comment.

      The difference in pay is working from the ground or an elevated crane 150 feet in the air in a glass box both are with the same company the 150 pay was offered to me but when i found the previous crane operators crane broke free and free fell 20 feet into some other cables luckly or it would have fallen the whole 150 feet after that he he quite and his job was offered to me but i decided to turn it down also when i reach overtime pay is triple my salary and reaches over 100 hr i work normally between 5 to 15 hours over time a week plus with 10 G in yearly stock and bonus production pay low is 80

      @theeasypathproject5862  5 років тому +1

      Okay, that makes sense. No amount of money is worth your safety. That's cool you can get the overtime. It seems like a lot of trade and factory jobs are getting overtime lately, and that 2x or 3x your normal pay can add up fast. Thanks for sharing your experience.

      These salaries don't include the per diem which is usually between $80-$150 per day worked. $560 - $1050 a week per diem. $20k+++ in perdiem alone. Perdiem is not taxable income so that is a bonus.

      Thanks for your suggestion. Lots of people are watching this video wanting to know more about different cranes. It is kind of hard to find videos of mobile cranes in the public domain for making these videos for UA-cam. I'll see if I can find more and put something together.

    What are the required eligibility for a outsider finding the same job there.

    • @theeasypathproject5862

      I'm not sure exactly, but I imagine you'd need to have a US work visa, and since the job of mobile crane operator requires training & certification you'd need that too. Hope that helps. Good luck.
