    Thanks for this description of CT. A high level view is great to provide. One clarification is that in the video you mention that each image i taken in CT is a different layer of the body. Each image taken is a different view of the body and the different layers are computed. Thanks again.

    I have very severe Asthma and will be doing this soon. I got told it's a chest CT Scan. I'm just curious to what it's capable of finding and what it can't do or find?
    Let's just say someone has the world's deadliest disease, cancer, chickenpox, tumor or anything. Can it detect those?
    To me, it can't because its about the chest area vs elsewhere?

      With CT such parasites can rarely be seen directly within the pictures but often signs of such an infection like liver cysts in case of Echinococcosis.

      Dude....As soon as you get it, you got the radiation. There is no going back. If you needed it, then I hope it was worth while. I just denied a PA at a hospital giving me a contrast one over a tooth infection because it didn't make any sense to me.

    Ionized radiation from a CT scan is dangerous, isn’t it?
    Isn’t low dose a misnomer? Because no amount of radiation expose is good for the body.
    One x-ray is one thing, but there must be hundreds of x-ays taking during one of these CT scans.
    The contrast medium substance contains iodine, correct?

    • @meowzass
      @meowzass 2 роки тому +5

      yes it’s dangerous but it’s used to help diagnose fairly fast.

    • @Outsayeed
      @Outsayeed 2 роки тому +2

      You’re on the right track. Yes it’s dangerous to get a bunch of CT scans a year, that’s why we check prior exams to make sure the patient is not getting more than what they need. There are safety protocols that need to be followed.
      As for all radiation is bad, the diagnostic importance of man made radiation outweighs the risk of radiation-related pathologies, like a Chloe said. So most times it’s necessary.
      There is also a theory called radiation hormesis that argues that low dose radiation can help stimulate the body’s ability to repair itself. However that’s all it is, a theory.
      In addition, did you know you absorb radiation on a daily basis from the sun and from radioactive substances found in the very walls of your home? You also absorb a lot of radiation when you’re on an airplane (you are technically closer to the sun, therefore the UV rays are more intense).
      There’s no escape 😂

      @@Outsayeed Risk versus reward. Perhaps the information obtained is worth the risk of DNA destruction during a scan. But, CT scans beam x-rays through the body. That is radiation expose and not really safe.

    • @sammyreal12
      @sammyreal12 Рік тому

      @@Outsayeed CT SCAN IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!
      worse than getting radiation naturally (all at once rather than over years)?
      Radiation from x-ray photon energy is not cumulative, the damage is.
      Natural Background Radiation is average if 1.5 - 3 mGy per year. Divide that by 365 days then the by 24 hours.
      That is radiation dose that does not penetrate your body.
      1 CT scan of the chest and Deposits directly inside your body over 1000 mGy in 15 seconds.
      I leave the calculations and decision making to you.
      Now how do we know the dose?
      Average radiation dose is measured and calculated by the CT scanner based on having a pencil type Geiger counter in a centre of a phantom.
      based on that measurement the CT Scanner calculates the dose length product which is the total dose went inside the patient, for example from top of the brain to the end of the cerebellum.
      that dose is recorded automatically in the patient file. And in some places with no conflict of interest like ours the total dose is displayed on the digital image or printed on the film.
      I call it deposited because that’s the real dose that reached the centre of the body part exposed.
      Google average DLP in Australia from the ARPANSA website.
      And next time you get a CT scan ask the Radiographer or Technologist, what was the DLP you received. It is your right to know.
      I have seen on the CT scanner, some patients receiving over 1.5 Gy in a single CT scan of the brain.
      there are many beneficiaries who will try anything to lure patients and hide the truth from people and lure them to have a scan. It’s all about the money and not you. You are just dollars in their bank.
      And there many ignorant people who learnt nothing from their studies and they become teachers with PhD, teaching the new generation deceptive gobbledygook science. They didn’t even bother reading the dose displayed on the CT scanner.
      you want to know the risks? Read Prof John Matthews research conducted at the Melbourne university and published in the British Medical Journal (2013). There are few other studies at that magnitude done in other countries publishing similar outcomes.
      the risk of developing cancer from a single CT scan examination is 24% higher than the unexposed general population, and then additional 16% for every additional CT scan.
