    Just an fyi, Royal Arms ARE considered a separate, hidden weapon category which very few enemies are resistant to. Nearly all enemies in the game are vulnerable to Royal Arms, which may make them seem like they bypass resistances.

    So I uploaded this once yesterday, but the file had corrupted and the last 2 minutes of the video were cut, so I removed it as soon as I noticed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

      I know this is random, but have you ever noticed that the "sword" model for Shields is the Sword of the Wise?

    Wow I thoroughly enjoyed watching this guide! Plus a guide to where they are in the comments too. A lot of work was put into this and thank you for not filling it with bullshit intros or anything. Will look forward to future videos!

    awesome video as usual. I really appreciate these videos as I always end up utilizing a technique that I learned from this series. keep up the good work man!

    Amazing video as always! Really looking forward to the move sets of the rest of the machinery weapons and royal arms! You're the only youtuber so far who has actually uploaded videos that give us concise clear instructions on how to use the convos of the weapons of this game. Honestly, they really should have included these things in a tutorial or a booklet or something but whatever I guess
    I really appreciate your hard work and I'm looking forward to more!

      Thanks for reminding me. I need to remake the machine video at some point...
      And I have said it a bunch of times and I'll say it again: It baffles me that none of this in the tutorial. I'm fine with them not giving a complete list of moves in the game (but they should definitely be in the official guide at least), but they should at the very least ask you to perform at least 2 or 3 different attacks in the tutorial. I feel sorry for the guy who designed and coded all this stuff, when 99% of people will play through the game without even realizing movesets are a thing.

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому

      Hayabusa It is indeed unfortunate how easy the game is. That being said, I'm currently doing a lvl1, no items, no healing spells run and I wouldn't have made it past chapter 3 without understanding how Sword of the Wise works.

    Great stuff as always! I was doing my own lab testing a couple nights ago, so I have stuff to add in case you miss anything. My computer used its die move so I can't continue with my moveset videos for another week or two, so this is how I will contribute!
    Today I add info about the Sword of the Wise and Axe of the Conquerer: SotW has the same phase attack as the sword category (thrust), a roll attack (can't remember, only wrote down that it had one), and actually does have a finisher (noctis does a spinning slash) but it doesn't follow the normal finisher rules so it doesn't seem to do more damage or cause break or cause the hit-pause effect. The opener from the SotW also doesn't count as a real warp strike because it doesn't benefit from the Point-Blank Crit ascension ability as far as I can tell.
    Axe has a counterattack after phasing where Noctis swings the axe in a vertical semicircle from front to back. Good when fighting opponents that have hitboxes above you.
    Edit: The official guide says that the Bow of the Clever deals bonus damage to vulnerable foes so there's that I guess.

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому

      Yea, all weapons have post-phase attacks, but they usually don't do anything different from other combo starters, so I don't include them in the videos.
      As for the "finisher" of SotW, I actually do it in the video at 2:09 (right after I say that they don't have finishers). For the longest time I thought it was a unique attack, but it's actually not. Watch the basic combo part (3:01) very closely, you'll notice that the spin attack is actually the 2nd last attack in the basic combo, right before the combo finisher (which is the stab that follows, both in 2:09 and in the basic combo in 3:01). This same is true for most royal arms, but it's useless for all except the last one, where it allows access to the very powerful combo finisher it has.
      You are correct, the combo starter of SotW is a "warp strike" in animation only. It doesn't get a distance modifier, doesn't cost MP, isn't affected by warp strike ascension grid abilities, cannot take you up/down etc.
      I really need that official guide, seriously. I didn't know about that, until I googled the name of the dungeon where you find the bow... and that was after the video had already exported. Oh well...
      Thanks for your input! It's great when other people also start researching this stuff :D

    • @RekiWylls
      @RekiWylls 8 років тому

      Asetoni FFXV Ah yeah, you're right about the SotW finisher. When I wrote it down, I must have missed that animation in the basic combo.
      Some of the weapon categories have unique phase/roll attacks, but they're worth mentioning even if they don't because they have their own damage multipliers (greatsword counteratrack has a 2.88 multiplier like wtf). Off the top of my head, greatswords have a weird shoulder-toss looking overhead attack, and spears have an aoe sweep (the sweep is good because it knocks down smaller enemies like magitek soldiers and such too).
      The guide's good for pure data but it's missing a lot of moveset info. It doesn't even mention the shield's forward attack or post-block attack for example. Combined with your stuff, that's what drove me to start making my own videos on the matter.

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому

      "Some of the weapon categories have unique phase/roll attacks"
      Roll attacks? Noctis does "normal" combo starters after rolling afaik...
      As for phase attacks, that's a long story... I originally didn't want to include them, because while they do have generally higher damage/knockdown/break multipliers, they don't do anything special since all attacks have different multipliers. I dumped them to the same group with all combo starters, despite the fact that they can be triggered reliably. And combo starters/openers are, for the most part, an incomprehensible mess, which is why I rarely talk about them in my videos.
      Looking back, I regret the decision to leave out post-phase openers, because unlike all other combo starters, they are reliable. However, I have not included them in other videos to keep internal consistency. Once this series is done, I should probably make a short video about them.

    Amazing Video, thanks =)
    I just would like to mention one thing about the Bow of the Clever: When using it together with Ignis All out (or whatever his team attack is called), Unlike all other weapons, the Bow will use a variation of it's normal attack, which makes it shoot like a frigging Machine gun! While it was patched to some extend, it is still INCREDIBLY powerful when used! In fact, so far I had no way I was able to survive this onslaught with Noctis, as he shoots so fast that even with Max HP and HP Regen, he will lose all his HP before the Command even ends! =)
    Yeah, sure, it is not really a move you can pull off without ignis, but as it is pretty unique, I thought it might worth mentioning =)

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому +3

      The ability is called Overwhelm and yes, the DPS is just crazy. I didn't mention it in the video, because there are already so many guides about it out there.

    • @КонстантинПаршуков-о6б
      @КонстантинПаршуков-о6б 4 роки тому

      I think it was fixed because when I used Owerwhlm with the Bow of the Clever it didn't shoot like a machine gun, it did normal shots.

  • @trevor.light721
    @trevor.light721 8 років тому +1

    I like the video. If anything, you might want to include interesting facts about the royal arms. One such fact could be that the Bow of the Clever works extremely well with Ignis' Overwhelm

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому +3

      Thanks! Yea, Overwhelm + bow is really good, but by now it's pretty widely known so I chose to leave it out. What I probably should have mentioned is that the bow's damage scales with magic, not strength... then again, that doesn't have much to do with the moveset, but it's good to know if you wanna use it a lot.

    Correct me if I am wrong but I think EVERY weapon in the game can link strike with a chocobo, I have done it with daggers multiple times which also cannot link strike so because of that I have reason to assume royal arms might work too even though I have not confirmed it myself.

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому +1

      I have actually never pulled off any of the chocobo attacks, so I don't know. That being said, I don't think the game considers them link strikes, since the tutorial says that only three weapons can perform them imgur.com/a/KxuYg

    • @MrBigg1esw0rth
      @MrBigg1esw0rth 8 років тому

      I skipped the tutorial because I already knew everything but you should check out the chocobo link strike because its actually really cool, Noctis does a quick stab while the chocobo runs in for a peck attack and then Noctis hops on the chocobo, runs away from the enemy and then charges right back in for a big chocobo riding slash attack and jumps off the chocobo while doing a sick backflip. Easiest way to trigger it is to ride your chocobo into a battle so it is summoned and near Noctis during a fight and then starting blindsiding with daggers because it will force out the chocobo link strike since daggers cannot link strike with everything else.

      Yeah true, and with chocobos too. Both of them have preset link strike animations so any weapons can trigger them. Wasn't aware of that 6 years ago ^_^'

    Super Super late to catch the train… Well I want to start FFXV but after some research and the game released in 2016. Can I play the special edition directly? It is a gift from someone and … I don’t want to do the DLC nor patch the game just install it and PLAY (old fashion style) does your guide still apply without patches?

    As someone who doesn't own or play this game and is just looking at the moveset, I noticed you mentioned a lot of cons and limitations these weapons have. So, why should someone want to use these?

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому +1

      While there are indeed a lot of downsides to these weapons, there are also just as many positives. Generally speaking, Royal Arms have much higher damage output than even lategame weapons, despite the fact that they can be obtained relatively early in the game. Lets take the weapons in this video as examples. The sword is the best hit and run weapon in the game and one of the safest melee weapons. The axe is the best weapon at causing vulnerability state (enemy is stunned and takes extra damage). The "bow" is just the strongest ranged weapon in the game, period.
      These weapons aren't strictly better than normal weapons, but instead enhance your options and offer new possible playstyles.

    • @langying
      @langying 8 років тому +1

      So, lots of risk and reward here. I guess they put those in either to balance the game, or give the player incentive to use other weapons.

    • @appcreate9132
      @appcreate9132 7 років тому +1

      langying also, they don't specifically have to be used as weapons; they can be used as stat modifying items. They all have some sort of permanent stat modification (e.g. +60 strength or +20% resistance to fire) as long as they are equipped in your quick selection. Post-story, I've pretty much had the sword of the father equipped all the time as it gives my base stats +100 strength and magic.

    Is there a way to use Royal Arms without sacricing HP like a hidden ability or Item?

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому +3

      No, but the HP drain is negligible if you don't spam warp strikes with them. And many items boost your passive HP recovery, which will completely negate the HP loss from using them.

  • @pancakes1592
    @pancakes1592 8 років тому

    Wew been wanting a guide like this for a while, the Royal Arms are really fun but the HP makes them somewhat irritating to use. Which leads to my next point, is there a way to offset the damage you deal to yourself? I kinda wanna do an only Royal Arm run but I don't want to use potion every 5 seconds in battle.

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  8 років тому +2

      The HP drain isn't really all that bad to be honest, unless you warp-strike a lot. Equipping Megaphone on Gladio increases passive HP regen so much that it almost completely negates the hp drain. Good/grand chamberlain on Ignis makes it so that you don't have to use potions yourself. Also, i you're doing NG+, then a certain lategame costume increses HP and MP recovery.

    • @pancakes1592
      @pancakes1592 8 років тому

      Asetoni FFXV Wow those are some really great tips, thank you. I didn't know the ignis accessory existed.

    • @NeroDeAngelo
      @NeroDeAngelo 8 років тому +1

      Also, if you are ready to give up one of Noctis Accessoire Slots, you can give him a black choker! That in combination with Megaphone on Gladio and the Soup Dish that increases Critical Hit Rate to 100% and HP-Regen by 150% nearly completely negates the self damage. With the exception of the Katana, which consumes a shitload of HP with each hit and hits fast and multiple Times, easily eating through half your health in one Combo EVEN with all the Regen! but it is soooo worth! Can't wait til Asetoni get's to it =D

    • @pancakes1592
      @pancakes1592 8 років тому

      Yeah I noticed, the consecutive warp strike destroys HP (Yours and the enemies'). By the way, is having more HP beneficial? I have Adamantoise accessory on Noctis but I don't know if the loss is based on flat HP or % HP so it might not matter.

    • @NeroDeAngelo
      @NeroDeAngelo 8 років тому

      first off: Sorry, I meant the black Choker, not the black hood^^'
      second: It is not just the warp strikes, even normal attacks with the Katana consume a lot of HP, I think around 800 HP per hit! Also, it seems to be Percentage based, but as I borrowed to game to my brother, I can't really confirm it now =( But regardless if it is percentage or not, more HP is ALWAYS beneficial when using royal arms, just in case you can't heal too often for example.

    The fact they don't have any linkstrike is really sad and really shows how untalanted the team really is... You have this cool concept of doing linkstrikes with your buddies but they only give that ability to 3 of the 8 weaponclasses... Atleast give each royal arm one linkstrike with one of the buddies... Like i said... The fact they didn't give em linkstrikes shows how untalented and uncreative they are.. so sad :(

    • @asetoniffxv22
      @asetoniffxv22  7 років тому +1

      Yea, it's really disappointing that you can't do them. The most frustrating thing is that they could even recycle the animations for most of them.
      Sword of the Wise/Sword of the Father/Katana -> Sword link strikes
      Blade of the Mystic/Mace/Sword of the Tall/Axe -> Greatsword link strikes
      Trident/Scepter -> Polearm link strikes
      That would just leave Shield of the Just, Sword of the Wanderer, Bow of the Clever and Star of the Rogue.
      And since even normal shields, daggers and ranged weapons can't link strike, it would even be fair in a way.
