- You’ll remember today’s guest from her role as Hilary Banks from the popular NBC sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Today, actress and writer Karyn Parsons is the founder and president of Sweet Blackberry, a foundation that aims to teach children stories of African American achievement. Parsons stopped by Sway in the Morning to tell us all about her Sweet Blackberry initiative, being a mom, and her acting career.
Like many other Americans, Parsons felt that her primary and secondary schooling did very little to outline empowering narratives based on people of color. She never felt truly connected and noticed that history was taught in a way that wasn’t necessarily engaging.

The worst part about this video, is that we are discussing how beautiful Karyn is (which she undoubtedly is), instead of discussing the fact that she is dedicating the rest of her life to pushing forward equality in America via her Non-Profit... which she is doing pro bono.
I'd say that her non-profit pursuits is something that adds to her beauty.

Babyyyyy, when I have a child, she or he will KNOW that black IS BEAUTIFUL! I love my blackness. To tell the truth, black people down other dark skin blacks the most. Of course, this was taught to us way back from the slavery days. It took me years to know that saying someone has "good hair" is just feeding into this sterotype.
First, shout out to that Hilary moment she had with the social media handles.
Secondly, the reason she can speak about black issues is because, like she said, James Avery talked to her a lot about that stuff and secondly, you don't really know how harsh those black issues can be UNTIL you're the only black person around a bunch of white people. Being in the hood is one thing. Being the only black person at gatherings or parent teacher meetings, etc you get to hear, see, AND experience those 'issues' up close and personal. Ask any black woman who's married to a white man and they'll tell you how bad it really is because they are right in that world.

I came across this video looking up Karyn Parsons. Remembered her from Fresh Prince. Still beautiful. One of the most beautiful I thought on TV bak in the day.
Skin colour and how people honestly perceive it. Would have liked to hear more of why the kid thought what she did about brown skin not having been exposed to much if any media. Was it teaching from school? (don't know how young that girl was or if she was attending school yet) But, in most schools from the beginning we're taught white is "good" and "black" is evil. That when you say "You look dirty! Let's clean your face"...it's because they have dirt on their face. Dirt is usually brown. That might have something to do with it.
If they're from a good family. Good values. The parents should keep on top of "skin colour" and keep them on the right track. Right way of thinking.
I'm an Chinese-CDN male. Parents were from HK. My parents were not like most Chinese that immigrated from HK. They went to CDN universities. Their friends did too. So most of them I don't think really bought into the biased white media in their portrayals of people of DIFFERENT colours. They got along with ALL people.
My mother decades ago fell and broke her ribs from as fall. My father hired a nurse. She was from Haiti. Recall her name as "Undene" (never knew the correct spelling. But, any way, I reember coming home from school as a kid. My mother ended up cooking her and my sister lunch. Served her first. :) That imaged stayed with em. IF she bought in the racism...she would have asked for another nurse. Made up some excuse. Let along cook for. She was never about skin colour. A Chinese woman from a culture that to this day still DOES buy into the racism. Unfortunately.
I've always been attracted to women of colour. All colours. Don't know why. In my head even when I've dated white women I'd think "..she could use a lime in the sun". As beautiful as she was. They were. In contrast to Chinese immigrant males, to this day...they prefer women with porcelain white skin. Again buying into that "white is clean and pure" idea...I believe.
I'm seeing a woman now....her father is from Somalia and her mother Sweden. Both grew up mostly in Germany. The woman I'm seeing looks like a young Vanessa Williams but with crystal blue eyes.
