    Real old school centre lathe work with the added extra of NC, takes me back to my apprenticeship days at ICI, and you never forget how easy it looks, but in practice...well that's another story. Thanks for sharing a great piece of work.

    Excellent, love the chuck creating a vacuum sucking the smoke away early in the video.

    That was a lot of material to remove, and as usual the surface finish was excellent, even on that bore!👊👍

    At 2.43 I've seen these slip off with the G-clamp not tight enough and people underestimate the weight. Did you mean 5 thou tolerance or was it really half thou . That is really honed tolerance. That lathe is a beauty. Nice video again. 👍

      I do tighten these fuckers hard and there was only 215 lbs (97kg) left, not that heavy. I think 0.001" tolerances it's pretty standard .i.imgur.com/xucPHHS.jpg

      theyre good if you dont have to turn into shoulders. usually id use sandvik mild steel inserts and use higher surface speed. en24t id use 300sur with a finish depth cut of 0.3mm. bit in mind, the longer the part leave on a little more material with slower sur or carbide / dampened bore bars

    I have a question about the final surface finish on the flange! Was it just as fine as in the bore/ on the OD? We're always having trouble with pressure marks from the jaws at work, and our solution has always been to switch to different, softer jaws for Finish OPs. But whitg such a big chuck as you use I can't imagine that's as feasible as with a HAAS's SL20 jaws.
    Do you used the same jaws through all OPs, and have a trick for keeping bite marks out of the flange? Or do you indeed switch jaws for the finishing op?

    • @ChrisMaj
      @ChrisMaj  3 роки тому +1

      The finish on the flange wasn't that critical and the jaws are smooth and they have a radius on them so they don't really leave any marks. On this chuck I can't switch to soft jaws so if I have to I'll use some aluminum/ brass shims to eliminate any marks.
