    Remember when Purple Rain came out. Saw it with band mates (I was in a band at the time). Was blown away, maybe even moreso since we weren't expecting much from it. But once he hit that breakdown in Let's Go Crazy, I thought, this might be good.

    I'm glad that the success of Purple Rain blew EVERYTHING out of the water at the time because I ALWAYS thought that 1999 double album should have been his international success. The 1999 double album was his breakthrough album with so much hard work, mechanics, and power put behind by just Prince himself. Purple Rain is the GREATEST Rock N Roll film of ALL TIMES. They have ran it on public television for nearly 40 YEARS NOW and it's registered under the US National film Registry along with the album in the library of Congress which is NOT to be considered cheesy.

      Waay ahead of his time. You know , Prince writing the movie based on mostly his life , friends ~his bandmates and he also placed his father in the movie with some switched up subject matter. Genius move on Princes part and a lot of the big wigs laughed it off . If I'm remembering right...didn't Richard Pryor finance the rest of the movie budget money Prince needed?
      Amazing.

    So, Dr. Fink was and still is my fav band member. Why? My friends and I had planned to be a part of
    the annual "air band" contest at my H.S. in '85. I was the "Dr." We watched "Purple Rain" a 100 times, well maybe 50. Anyway, we had costumes made, I painted a "Prince" sign for the front of my faux keyboard...we did it all. I even got a perm to match Drs. hair style. Yep and then realized I hadn't taken my senior pic yet, so yep, you guessed it, my perm is my senior pic. My hair was normally a spiky "Billy Idol" look, but I digress. Anyway, the contest was cancelled the week of and we were ALL disappointed.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

    I think Morris Day's character in the movie gets a pass because he was portrayed as an insecure person who put on a huge front to hide his fear of not being accepted for himself. His hurtful taunts and barbs toward Prince was due to latent jealousy and immaturity. I think most characters in the movie would probably roll their eyes after Morris walked away, knowing that he was a child for the most part.

    • @DanFreeman723
      @DanFreeman723 6 місяців тому +1

      I think Prince intentionally set it up that way so he could be the underdog. They say Morris was acting like how Prince was in real life...

  • @Daveshotpocket

    So now no one can portray a bad guy that does bad things to women because of misogyny? The dumpster scene fit Morris' bad guy character. It's not misogyny to tell a story. Stupid take.

      @terryprentice9657 5 місяців тому +1

      The scene isn't played to portray Morris as bad, it's just for a cheap gag laugh. On the other hand, the violent scenes with Prince and his family advance the story by showing the Kid's struggle to not become his father.

      Morris bad move was to continue the character in real life interviews. He overdid it. Watch him in the purple rain premier or with letterman. Not cool. He could have just acted as a professional serious musician and not the Morris purple rain guy and people would have paid more attention to his career. He wasn’t really saying anything interesting and just joking about being sexy and the ladies etc

    • @mongoslade277
      @mongoslade277 5 місяців тому

      Not a stupid take. You don't understand the premise of the movie. The Morris Day character IS Prince in real life at that time. That's how Prince treated The Time, The Revolution & Vanity/ Apollonia 6
