- Icebreaker challenged Lucy and myself (Harry!) to wear one of their baselayers for 7 days straight without washing it, and for some reason we both accepted this challenge. This video documents my experience with the baselayer on a day-to-day basis, including a 'stink rating' and

I wear merino every day in the Australian climate. The odour is non existent, but over the long term there is still the curse that effects all clothing that deodorant /anti persperant builds up in the armpits and cannot be washed out. That is what eventually finishes all my tops.
I live in merino and wear it for weeks on end and it takes ages to start smelling. It is often thought of as a cold weather garment but I bought some merino blend short sleeves for summer and they are just as good in summer as winter. My go to clothing.
No issues wearing my icebreaker merino base layers for a week of hard skiing. No smell at all. Worth the money.
totally agree -have an icebreaker baselayer top and is fantastic at staying ok over multiple days.. my favourite baselayer 👍
Merino tops are the best. Bought initially as baselayers for hiking but they've become my preferred clothing choice no matter what the weather is.
Agreed, definitely a merino convert after making this video.
Great vid!....and repping the BQR hoodie 👍🏻
I found icebreaker is better performed than smartwool on odor
When I saw the title of the video I just knew it would stink!! 😀 But I too have worn Icebreaker and other wool items for years, winter and summer, for extended periods and ..... NO STINK! Mother Nature knows best! PS: Much of modern outdoor clothing is IMHO bio-mimicry of what Mother Nature took millions of years to develop: synthetic insulation, synthetic materials, etc.
Yup agreed, down and wool are both pretty incredible materials that we simply can't replicate like-for-like!
works for merino boxers too
I do this all the time in winter with icebreakers
I think as we all move to a more sustainable lifestyle, this involves not washing things after every use, this is the perfect example of being sustainable and not wasting lots of water
Very true. The initial cost will soon be offset by the savings in washing & replacing inferior alternatives.
I wear marino base layers for the full working week. Still smell fresh on Friday.
Must save a lot on the washing bill!
I'll always remember talking to a historical recreation guy at a fort in Canada. It was high summer, he was in heavy wool regimentals, hadn't bathed all summer (wiped pits & bits, that was it).... and he was fine! No stink! Natural climate controlled clothing! 😃
Say thanks to your sheep for us!
@@trekitt Just while I'm watching this again.... Did Lucy do a video/blog about her experience with this? Would be interesting to see it from a woman's perspective as well.
hihi Harry! Do we need to use wool-specific detergents to wash the garment or the normal ones we use for all clothes? Thanks so much!
Use wool specific
Wool wash is best-it'll help to maintain the lifespan of the fabric. www.trekitt.co.uk/clothing/washing-water-repellency-care/nikwax-wool-wash-300ml__2480
