    4th dirty little secret: this video is a sales pitch for your company!

  • @bethmaranville1495
    @bethmaranville1495 5 років тому +30

    Had my first sales pitch today from American Standard. He drove "all the way from Springfield Mass" to my location in upstate New York (north of Albany). No company will quote even a ballpark figure without sending a warm body to your house first, so we had to let the fellow in if we wanted to learn anything more about the product. After a very long lecture (well over an hour) that included a torn photo album of pics of people who regretted using other companies, a painful step-by-step litany of simplistic explanations of brass vs every other metal or plastic in the world, and vague answers to specific questions, (roughly how much will this cost was our biggest question that he dodged answering multiple times) we were asked to watch a video on his computer while he worked his magic with the numbers. He must have said 20 times that the tub he was showing us is considered "the Maserati of walk-in tubs". He had a sample case of spouts, knobs, jets and electronic controls and had us lift them all to feel the weight and examine the quality. Still wouldn't give us a price until he had spoken every word, displayed every fixture sample, shown every pic on the tablet and watched the complete video on the laptop. Once done he artfully covered the end price with a blank piece of paper so we couldn't see it, then walked us step by step from the beginning suggested price of $21,523, less the senior discount, the As Seen On TV advertised discount, another discount that we're not sure what it's for, an additional $500 off for "water heater credit" although we are not buying a water heater from them or anyone else, to give us the final amazing price of $19,773.00. He quickly informed us that special price was only good for as long as he was inside our home. If he walked out the door it would no longer be available at that special price. This tub is for my 85 year old grandmother, who would greatly benefit from all of those jets and features. But really? $20,000 out of her pocket and she's 85? Her answer was no, she wasn't going to pay more for her tub than she did for her car unless it had wheels and could be driven to the store while she was in it. She asked for the price of a tub the next level down. The room grew silent and cold. Our salesman was not happy at that point. He excused himself while he made a phone call, explaining that the pricing for the Value Series line of tubs changed from hour to hour, so he would have to call Jim or Jack for a quote. We waited quietly while he made his call. New quote for "a VS tub without the trademark features of the Liberation tub, only 8 water jets and nowhere near the superior quality of the Liberation" would be $13,500 and that price would also be gone as soon as he walked out the door. Talk about a product being shrouded in mystery - buying a walk-in tub from anyone appears to be akin to joining the Freemasons. Everyone is sworn to secrecy unless there is a down payment check in hand. We are being extra cautious. Red flags abound in this industry we think!

      @unboundabroad 5 років тому +3

      Linda F his out the door price should have been $17521 based on the first number. It’s also important to note the liberation is the ONLY tub that drains in 2 min or less, has a patented leak proof door and the ONLY company that gives lifetime on the labor. Anerican standard does not utilize the dealership model and uses fair pricing as a policy. They do not art pricing for customers from state to state, they are the most ethical when it comes to walk in tubs. The salesperson has to justify spending money just like a car salesman makes you test drive before buying. At the end of the day the salesman did his job properly but didn’t sell you the way you wanted to be sold. You should really reconsider going with American standard, hands down the best tub in the market.

      I worked for a short time way back in the ‘70s, for American Standard selling water softener systems. The price was outrageous compared to what you could buy one for at a hardware store. Every single presentation had a “phone call” to my manager scheduled. Every single presentation had a “special” price only available “today”. Look at the walk-in-tubs at the Lowe’s or Home Depot web sites (including America Standard models). The top of the line models are usually around $5K to $6K with sale prices around $3500, and almost as good models for $2K to $3K. Almost every model boasts an assisted drain time of 80 seconds or less. The one thing they rarely mention is the time it takes to fill the damn things. Remember, you have to be sitting in the tub butt naked the entire time it takes to fill it up! A seat warmer helps make that tolerable, but is an add-on for almost every model.

    I had to use a walk-in tub in a house i was renting for a few months.
    Had it been my own home, i would have had it removed, then installed a walk-in shower with an attached seat. . People need to realize the downsides before a huge home reno like this. Upon my moving into this house, i was looking forward to the walk-in bath, but it wasn't long before learning the downside.
    Here are some of the reasons I DON'T, like a walk-in tub.
    1: If you need to suddenly use a toilet, there is only one way out of the tub, and it is climbing over the top. It's a huge drop from top of tub to floor.
    2: If you are not a tall person, (im 5'2") my feet don't sit firmly on tub floor, so when tub is full my feet and legs float.
    This is not very comfortable.
    3: The tub is very hard to clean. Its so deep and awkward trying to stretch all over to clean it.
    4: The dirt that builds up along, under and up sides of door is gross and hard to rinse off. We cleaned tub after every bath so this is a daily chore between cleaning tub and the door opening .
    I was going to place a 2 step ladder on outside of the tub for emergecies, but i knew i was moving, so i didn't bother.
    I don't have the mobility issues of most of the people who buy this type of tub and so there is virtually no way an ellderly person is going to be able to climb over top of tub if an emergency happens during bath time

    • @Jaeh1
      @Jaeh1 5 років тому +2

      @Lisa Read Wannod Ranni's first 2 sentences. They plainly and clearly explain why she just didn't have it removed. Some property owners don't like it when renters take it upon themselves to remove expensive fixtures from their units.
      Physically healthy people like these tubs too. The points she made may be of concern to others. For someone with kidney, bladder, or colon issues, 2 minutes is an eternity. Just because they just off the toilet and straight into the tub doesn't mean they still won't have an 'emergency'.
      The market for these tubs stretches far and wide, from young to old, as well as the physically capable to the physically impaired. The list of concerns stretches just as far, and varies from person to person.

    Whattahell? I thought this video was about dirt & germs 😂
    We bought a beautiful home in which the previous owners were in their 80’s . One of the bathrooms has a walk- in tub, it looks fairly new and kept great. It’s very comfortable although just a bit hard to clean because it’s deep where one must go inside, shut the door and clean the inside.
    Beside all that ... the walk-in tub is perfect for when my elderly mom & dad visit us.

    I have a beautiful walk in tub installed over 5 mos ago. For me it is a God sent, our master bath has a large deep Roman Tub which I could no longer use after coming down with Arthritis. MINE has a large door that opens out, it is my dream come true, I use a lovely bubble bath product that contains Ebsen Salts that makes bathing so pleasurable. Mine also has all the bells and whistles, and why not, I deserve it.

    I already have a walk-in tub, and I've had it for a while now. What really gets me pissed off, is now things are starting to break and Re-bath (they installed the tub) refuses to contact me and trying to get them to respond to my messages is impossible! They already have my money and that's all they wanted from me. I have a local plumber tomorrow come and replace a shower hose that busted, but it's the only trouble I've had with the tub so far. I can't complain.

    We bought one that looks even better than those high sales ones, for $2,500, and hired a plumber to install it, and a carpenter that filled in the floor and around it to look right, for about 1,100. This is the only way to do it. Those others want thousands of dollars, higher than an automobile.

    I find it offensive that you label all sales reps this way, I pride myself on being very educated about the industry in which I work, I ensure to educate my customers, to make sure they understand Pro's & Con's of a product and that I fully understand the customers needs to make a proper recommendation...I've been in the remodeling industry for 6 years now and I continue to educate myself each week (why I'm watching your video out of interest)... Not all sales reps are the picture you've painted in this obviously self promoting video.

    Wish you were closer to me. We’re ready to install a walk-in tub, but can’t find the right one. One major feature I’m looking for is heated air in the air jets. I’ve had hot tubs and therapeutic tubs with air jets. You get the water nice and hot, climb in and turn on the air jets and get hit with ice-cold air bubbles. Why won’t the manufacturers listen and put a simple air heater in-line?

    What makes the connection better for your company with the same manufacturer and responsive service that an consumer would get different that you can't share? Sounds like your company adds a step of being a middleman and only illiterate,lazy or person without shopping time would benefit from this service. The real dirty secret that needs to be shared is how and why to get the same relationship with manufacturers as you have.

    Laughable video. As others have mentioned before, this is nothing but a sales pitch. All companies in all business environments, utilize salespeople, they are if you will, a necessary evil. He makes it seem that it's a dirty offense to attempt to sell a specific product. We all buy things all the time and recognize there is a person who is eventually going to ask us to buy their product. This industry is no different than any other. This guy seems sleazy to me. While it probably is a bit awkward to sell to the elderly, I'd be concerned that a customer might have onset dementia, which is not always discernible at all times. There was something not right about this video.

    Lol this guy probly got his luxury walk in tub free to advertise in the same way he is talking about brand sellers are doing it by saying he's a shopping company that will help you to find a suitable affordable tub that will cater for your wants and needs and then ends up directing you to the company he got his for free... or says he can arrange the sale and try and get you a discount then calls his supplier tells them he's got tem a sale do they right off part of the cost of his tub and give a slight discount to the next order then he then tells you it's discounted if he arranges the sale cos he is an official and independeng site to by from.... his biggest mistake was calling other companies sales and marketing is a dirty little secret yet to be honest that's what costs is for most products even food if it's got a branded name u pay more cos it's advertised like food per say... you see advertised something like napoli spaghetti/pasta yet you can by the same product which is
    co-op Sainsbury's Tescos even also and it's the exact same product but cost around 25 or 30 pence a pack yet you pay like £1.80 For the branded packet... yet Tescos and Sainsbury's and all the others buy from the same supplier whose brand is most prominently sold from their shop probably 60/40 split 60%labels with the stores name and 30% with the brand name that supplies them the extra tacked on to the brand label covers the discount given to the store for its bulk purchase...I might be in trouble saying it but it's true it's same with coffee you can tell which company and blend the stores own is which is sold at a lower price with stores name labels on it you can actually taste which brand it is if your into your coffee and most store brand coffee that is a good roast is one particular blend and brand which is the same blend I prefer to drink you pay like £2 For 300g had store lablwd and the original brand is sold at ranging between £6-£7.50 big price jump but it's bought in bulk considered a comodety if it not a tea person your a coffee person every house has coffee and tea in the cupboard and if you do or don't your gona but the cheaper jar the reason the brand label charges more is to recoup some of the straight up profit of their product through discounting the supermarkets for the bulk buys which they can do because they have the buying power and storage to hold the stock so all those nicumpoops that think they are all swanky cos they paid more for their coffee than everyone else an want to appear as posh and better than anyone else duh that just means it dumb with money while the rest of the population sees the bargain sees through all the cooperate enterprise bs and the marketing bollox and saves money cos you buying one item they are buying 3x or 4x the amount your buying for what you spent on the same product same with certain clothes... to be honest it's best not to listen to any advertising in whatever way it is formatted or presented all I know is if I want something I will buy it don't need an advert to tell me go by this go buy that an if I wanted a walk in tub I'd go to the stockists that stock them and ask for the manufacturers Panthers for each product gloss over them and then look at the tubs my self Chevy the volume capacity the safety features the waterseals shape material functionality and decide on my own research and examination of said item as to which I will buy and how much I would be willing to set as a limit to spend and take both the build quality and price into careful consideration ...an anyone offering such a service must be a con somewhere along the line cos either they get a discounted cost for multiple bulk orders to which they will either be advising purchase of or regardless of what choice you make he then waits for say 3 or four orders of each one puts the order through and pays later after he's received your payment and takes off a cut which is what the brand will discount him on bulk purchases or the major distributed of multiple brands discounts him with what is saved on discounts probably buys 1 of each or two of one two of another and resell them at a profit see it's simple stuff really I'd rather buy for myself and the I can make a better informed decision after physically checking out the products im looking into...

    Beware of products when they cant give you a ballpark figure over the phone, ridiculous

    • @dolphinsc1
      @dolphinsc1 4 роки тому

      That is not a red flag. Ball park prices are generally like comparing a Lincoln to a Volkswagen. If they give you a price of $5000.00 and the best price your given for what you really want is $8000.00 your gonna think your being taken advantage of, and then maybe you will not buy at any price. Don't let that happen. If you like the company history and the person selling you the product, buy the product even if you pay more than you expected to spend.
      Remember a lot goes into the purchase price the buyer/you do not know about, and that price is depending on the company. For example a guy working out of his house or off his truck my sell you a product cheaper, along with a less expensive install price, but all in all when the time comes (and it will) you will need service, where will your service come from, and when. How much will that service cost you.
      Respectfully.

      How right you are. You are lucky if you can get an estimate or a price on the phone. I have became very tired of the “chat person” who must always go and find the information you are asking for. I am sure one of the first questions the “chat person” must be asked, what is the cost of the tub unit itself! She should know that answer off of the top of her head. I feel pretty certain that question is asked by the majority of those who “chat” with her. It is all a ploy to get a salesperson to come to your house and high pressure you into buying from them. I have also read that if you have decided to buy from them you have to pay for another visit to your home by a sales rep. This has really turned me off for deciding which tub I would like to purchase. I will just get info from friends or others who already have one. These companies have all lost a sale from me. I have better and more important ways to spend my time than to wait for a “chat person “ to waste my time....and by the way what is the big secret about the cost?

    Heres a secret: I will charge you roughly 100x what my cost is. Because capitalism. Heres a fact: nothing you can do about it. Another secret: if I don't pay for advertising and come to you dorectly like these guys say they do, that advertisment money stay in not yours, but MY pocket. Anyone want to buy literally anything from anyone? I can help.

    Complains the customer is paying a sales commission to someone who drove to give you information Often times on their own dime, only to try to sell you the lowest price tub on the market and in turn, most likely will get a kick back. This video is bullshit

    Another simple dirty little secret, sir is your a greedy , bash your competitor by slander, basically your a nut job. You clearly have no experience in hitting the bricks that earn a living or that helps others to earn a living. And who are you trying to kid, anytime you get a computer lead your going to send a local distributor sales rep or factory sales rep to the home. And besides these facts, you also do not pay for a location with all the expenses that adds to the cost of the product, that means you have no liability toward your customer, if you want you can change your phone number, and shut down your computer-site and move own to your next internet victim.
    Yours is a greedy self indulgent way of doing business and brings no American looking for a job employment.
    Buyers want a good product at a reasonable price but Mostly with good LONG term service plan. That is where more of the high cost comes in.
    If you want five and dime products that have no to little service plans you may want to skip the purchase of a starting at $8.000.00+ Walk in Tub. BUT be warned, you'll be sorry you did. I know many young and old men and women who love there investment.
    Remember nothing is as cheap as talk.
    Respectfully.
