I like the progression of the three end credits songs of these movies...this one is about vengeance and returning to one's homeland, perfect for the start of the journey, with everyone ready to go and excited for the journey ahead. I See Fire is softer and is seems to me to be about the likelihood of death ("If this is to end in fire/we should all burn together" "And if we should die tonight/Then we should all die together"), we're starting to see, just as the characters are, that some may not survive to see the end of their quest. Smaug is heading to Lake Town and we're left at that. Death is coming. The Last Goodbye is a sad yet hopeful song about saying farewell to lost loved ones. Obviously about the deaths of Fili, Kili, and Thorin. But also fitting for many Middle-earth fans because the movies we have come to love and cherish and look forward to have ended. There will be no new Hobbit film this year. We had to say farewell to Middle-earth and our favorite characters. But we can still revisit by re-watching the moves and re-reading the books. ("But I won't regret/Nor will I forget/All who took that road with me")
Except, when used correctly, fire is life. Not just destruction. Fire, is removing what must go, and is preparing what needs to come afterwards to be ready for someone (or maybe more than one person).
Far over the Misty Mountains rise Leave us standing upon the height What was before we see once more Is our kingdom a distant light Fiery mountain beneath the moon The words unspoken, we'll be there soon For home a song that echoes on And all who find us will know the tune Some folk we never forget Some kind we never forgive Haven't seen the back of us yet We'll fight as long as we live All eyes on the hidden door To the Lonely Mountain borne We'll ride in the gathering storm Until we get our long forgotten gold We lay under the Misty Mountains cold In slumbers deep, and dreams of gold We must awake, our lives to make And in the darkness a torch we hold From long ago when lanterns burned Until this day our hearts have yearned Her fate unknown, the Arkenstone What was stolen must be returned We must awake and make the day To find a song for heart and soul Some folk we never forget Some kind we never forgive Haven't seen the end of it yet We'll fight as long as we live All eyes on the hidden door To the Lonely Mountain borne We'll ride in the gathering storm Until we get our long forgotten gold Far away the Misty Mountains cold
And again at least one oscar for a film directed by peter jackson! I think there won't have to be a discussion about the best soundtrack this year ... Great work :D
This song is so badass and bold and adventurous and educational due to Durin's folk. It makes me wanna go slay a dragon. I wish they made more movies. 6 wasn't enough
I looked 'Neil Finn' up to see who is is but accidentally typed 'Neil Flinn'. Bit of a shock when it looked like this was sung by the Janitor from scrubs...
A lot of people say the first movie was the worst of the three, at least that's what all of the people I've talked to seem to think. At least in this first one the story had some decently written dialogue to push the story forward as well as action scenes. I can't deny Peter Jackson stabbed himself in the foot turning a single book with 15 central characters, plus the various elves and people into a three part trilogy, and it shows through in the later two films, which in my opinion focus far too heavilly on action and battles, with often cliched dialogue to progress them. This song, along with a far more even spread of attention to each of the dwarves nailed the first film as my undisputed favourite.
The only part that's left is the battle and return journey, and Bilbo was knocked out for nearly the entirety of the battle, so I'm anxious to see how they're gonna stretch the final events into a third movie.
They didn't cut out that much. Maybe some bits and pieces to keep the story flowing, but they added more cause there wasn't enough content for a trilogy xD I like it, either way
JOHN ZERO You claim they cut out so much that was in the book, and yet you knit-pick at the most petty difference you can find. The ONLY difference is that the spider did not say "it stings!" in the book, but it doesn't take a scholar to know that the idea for the name came from the exact same concept.
I think there are a few mistakes. However, I cannot recognise it as I do not have the original CD. If anyone knows the mistakes, (other than ; ...lonely moutain [borne].) Please tell me. c:
One does not simply leave the cinema before listening the the credits' song O____O
I agree my friend I wish I could more but family soo pushy and hurry
One of the greatest songs and movies of all time! The Desolation of Smaug was awesome too!

You forgot the fact that it was Billy Boyd who sang The Last Goodbye, which is oddly fitting, seeing his roles in the Lord of the Rings series.
OMsRandomWriter Exactly, that Edge of Night song of Pippin (Billy Boyd)
Except, when used correctly, fire is life. Not just destruction. Fire, is removing what must go, and is preparing what needs to come afterwards to be ready for someone (or maybe more than one person).
this song gives me chills- it makes me think of the heart and soul of the dwarven race.
This is the best epic song that I've ever heard.
I love the Hobbit. The second is awesome. Can't wait to see "There and Back Again"

Brings you back into the mystic atmosphere of this great movie - beautiful!

Far over the Misty Mountains rise
Leave us standing upon the height
What was before we see once more
Is our kingdom a distant light
Fiery mountain beneath the moon
The words unspoken, we'll be there soon
For home a song that echoes on
And all who find us will know the tune
Some folk we never forget
Some kind we never forgive
Haven't seen the back of us yet
We'll fight as long as we live
All eyes on the hidden door
To the Lonely Mountain borne
We'll ride in the gathering storm
Until we get our long forgotten gold
We lay under the Misty Mountains cold
In slumbers deep, and dreams of gold
We must awake, our lives to make
And in the darkness a torch we hold
From long ago when lanterns burned
Until this day our hearts have yearned
Her fate unknown, the Arkenstone
What was stolen must be returned
We must awake and make the day
To find a song for heart and soul
Some folk we never forget
Some kind we never forgive
Haven't seen the end of it yet
We'll fight as long as we live
All eyes on the hidden door
To the Lonely Mountain borne
We'll ride in the gathering storm
Until we get our long forgotten gold
Far away the Misty Mountains cold
Yes, I believe this is the correct lyrics :)

My favorite of the hobbit movies is an unexpected journey and the battle of the five armies.
Nora Bondø My favorites are The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies, but An Unexpected Journey is still amazing.
Skill - Talent = Me no but part 2 was bad
i can imagine charging into battle with my fellow dwarves. armor scraping, shields smashing and hammers and axes clashing
This song explans just how hell bent the dwarves were on claming there homeland
WE LAY OPPOSITE THE SCREEN
LISTENING THE SONG WICH ROCKS
Yeah I agree no leaving the cinama until end credit is over
Journey is on the foot
L and Darth Vader are two epic characters!!!!
Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya
This song makes me think of revange, hope and mystery. I think ''I see fire'' is just a relaxing song, not proper for a film about adventure.
i would love this song with DIO voice
There's a rumor that Jackson might be doing 4 parts of the Hobbit. What the 4th movie is going to be about, I don't know.
The war of five armies maybe?
well that's news to me I thought there was only supposed to be 3
No, there is only three parts. They already filmed the entire movies.
The only part that's left is the battle and return journey, and Bilbo was knocked out for nearly the entirety of the battle, so I'm anxious to see how they're gonna stretch the final events into a third movie.
good shit
Awesome XD
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!!!!!!!!
They cut out so much that was in the book like how Bilbo named his sword he just called it sting and did not get it from the spiders.
They didn't cut out that much. Maybe some bits and pieces to keep the story flowing, but they added more cause there wasn't enough content for a trilogy xD I like it, either way
It shows you in the second film, the Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo naming Sting.
but that's not how he named it in the book
JOHN ZERO Is it not? Sorry! Looks like I need to go and re-read the books. ;)
JOHN ZERO You claim they cut out so much that was in the book, and yet you knit-pick at the most petty difference you can find.
