  • My review and drive in one of the most luxurious Jaguar saloons ever made. This one is the 3.0 V6 petrol supercharged and is in portfolio spec. Enjoy!

XJ is really a stand out luxury car. It stands apart from all its German rivals. And design is just amazing.

I currently have owned a Jaguar XJ Autobiography for 3+ years from brand new (2018 mode) Black metallic with tan interior. In 50 years driving the best most luxurious reliable and cheap to run exec car I've ever owned. So economical in its 3.0 Diesel variant (better than petrol 3.0L). The nearest car to a new Bentley but at an everyday price - the interior is phenomenal luxury. The only negative is Jaguar has stopped production of the XJ and now canned the new all electric version that was due 2019 / 2020 which I was interested in. So now my next car will not be a Jaguar as the current model line up in my opinion has SUV's within it that should not even have the name Jaguar on them as they look so awful.

Just purchased a 2018 Jaguar portfolio with only 16.500 miles on the clock I must say it is the ultimate in luxury compared to the xf and as for the F Pace it is not fit to be called a Jaguar.

How is reliability and what are servicing/warranty costs. Audi combine both for 2 years for just under £600.

People overlook the XJ for many reasons... Reliability is probably the main reason. The ride isn't as soft as the others (A8, , etc.). The rear looks rather plain with no wood (other than on the doors) surrounding the rear air vents, the rear armrest, the back of the seats, etc. like on the A8. A lot of plastic trim and pieces in the front by the driver - where there is wood and aluminum in the A8.

I use these wonderful motors for my tour company in Ireland and they never lose the 'WOW' factor when we waft up to collect our guests! It's a head turner in black metallic paint everywhere we travel and the general public will often stop to talk about the style and beauty of the car. Even gets super special attention at the car wash/valet and a talking point every time with the staff as to how they can make it SHINE. I've never had the same with my E Class Mercedes! Shame on JLR for abandoning these classic Jaguar saloons in favour of the clunky unattractive Chelsea tractors and the awkward I Pace EV!

I seriously can't believe how much this car has depreciated. It's one of the easiest ways to get a 450ish whp car for under 30k with a little luck

I am just about to give up my trusty XF S 3 litre 2017 in favour of a 2018 XJ Portfolio 3 litre petrol. I know I'm losing 40bhp which is wicked in dynamic. Looking forward to the extra comfort more than anything

I may be buying an XJ 3.0ltr supercharges 2012 portfolio with only 16000 miles on it. If I can I can't wait to own it. I had an XF premium luxury and the gearbox exploded but that hasn't put me off, I think I was just unlucky with that gearbox. If I can nab the XJ I'll be super chuffed.

I've always had a graw for XJ's but have always had Mercedes for 25 years.
I have loved all he incarcerations of the XJ but it has taken nearly 10 years for the 351 to grow on me. (I know 'late to the party') all the German stuff looks the same and has become anonymous. I've never had the money to buy new nearly always a 3 year old car (all E class) the XF does nothing for me.
To be honest I was afraid of Jaguar reliability especially with the Range Rover horror stories. I have a new Toyota Landcruiser for work. But checking out the reviews the 3.0D seems to be reliable.
Should I bite the bullet and go for a 50k mileage 2017 Portfolio Diesel?
Bearing in mind my last e class service (E220D) cost 750.

I agree with your comments. I own slightly earlier Portfolio, in black with ivory interior - it has piped not quilted seas, and all the rest of the specs. But has the 3.0l twin Turb, same top speed, but not quite as quick on getting there. Ŵhat it does have which I really appreciate is the Bowers and Wilkins 1200watt sound system, and only 47,00 on the clock. At first I missed the stymie of the 350 model. - but you are right about that feeling of luxury, and yes, the massage ‘wave’ choice is my favourite as well. I don’t think you mentioned the double glazing. If I were to wish anything better, I would go go for the Autobiography LWB. But mine takes a lot of space at the car park already!

Just got a 5.0L 2019 XJL Collection Edition. This final edition definitely saved the best for last. I drove a 2016 3.0L XJL, and it was terrible. The V6 petrol is garbage in the car. Hold out for the V8 at all costs!

Bonito coche pero la reputacion por desgracia del grupo Jaguar-Land Rover esta muy baja por los numerosos fallos de todo tipo y su costosa reparacion antes de tiempo.en ciches nuevos.

The magic of this is in the interior. The grill looks like every other car on the road. The previous generation looked much classier. Less sporty, but it’s a luxury car. Sorry, Zoomers. Get the XK if you want a sports car. The interior where it counts is fabulous though. Hopefully the reliability has improved. It’s not a terrible exterior design, but it just looks more plain. Again, fix the reliability problems and forget about trying to appease children who will never appreciate a beautiful luxury car.
