I was anxiously awaiting for this interview when you teased us on your Friday video! This was an amazing interview with Kamon and I am going to make an effort to attend the NEW and improved conference! Looking forward to meeting both Kamon and you!! Thanks again for doing this!! ~Allen
Great interview Fred. I follow Kamon and totally enjoy his content along with yours. I also compliment his choice in music with Steven Curtis Chapman! I am glad to see things are on the right track with his new conference and hope to be able to go and meet everyone.
Information and humor.....perfect combo. Thanks Fred .... your interviews ''go everywhere'' and are always interesting. Love Kamon....and learned stuff l didn't know about him. Regards from the Ozarks.
I really like Kamon and his approach as well as David Burns and Dr. Leo from Horizonal hives . There are so many commercial beekeepers the seem to have an attitude. Just being down to earth with people is far more pleasant to learn from
Well I figured she was a keeper at that point . Wise words Kamon, :) I was around bees sinse the age of 8 and horses mostly TBs Will probably add to this comment when finished watching have to watch in 2-3 parts and take notes from lunch break at work, Great so far. Its great learning from accross the board whether you are treatment or treatment free.
Kamon did say he would get into trouble and as soon as he started to talk about the essential oil lightning stuck and the power went down LOL. Thank you for this interview Fred, was informative and as usual showed your great sense of humor.
Very nice interview Fred. Thanks for coming on Kamon. Learned more as usual about bees. And now you also Kamon. Keep the good work going gentelmen. TY.
Wow listening to how Kaymon manages his hives made me realize I have a lot to learn. Im still trying to learn one deep managment. My bees have other ideas tho. I dont have a mentor or club. I have you, youtube, FB and books. I too do my best to run my backyard bees as clean as possible. I sure don't want over a hundred pounds of honey per hive tho. Wow! I have 10 and 100 lbs total would be plenty for me. Thanks Fred! Really appreciate all you do
I am blown away with how Kamon explained how and why he is using treatments. Fred you are doing a great job of interviewing. The only thing that did not happen was that you didn't say where to get tickets for the conference or what the website is!?
Great chat covering MANY interesting topics!!! Really enjoyed the last few minutes about music. Seems a lot of us have the same opinion on "old" vs "new" music. Also liked the fact that Kamon's first statement about the new conference was that it was going to be fun. We all need more fun and less drama in our lives and I'm looking forward to heading for Kentucky to be with like-minded bee folks in January!! Thanks Fred as always!!!!
Fred !! You got him good at 1:40 , She’s a keeper lol. Kaymon is my bee hero , his video about mite treatments started me off “Keeping” my bees healthy
Fred and Kaymon Great interview!!! I’ve been following you both. This is my second year keeping bees 🐝 and have learned so much from you guys. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!! Laurel should have her own UA-cam channel!! I'd love to learn blacksmithing!! She could develop & sell the perfect tone triangle for TANGING BEES!!!
I’m fairly close to you over here in Texas.. temps over 100 everyday and no rain. But got a reprieve for a couple days with temps. Did light dose of aqigaurd. I had 60 mites in 300 bee test. Hopefully knock them down a little.
Kamon says he doesn’t sell queens, but he does sell nucleus colonies, and I have to say it was worth the 10 hour drive to get his “Tennessee Carny” queens in those big fat nucs. These are some of the most “brick laying” queens I’ve acquired. Thanks Fred, for this interview.. my two favorite UA-cam beeks in one video!
@@FrederickDunn I actually had to procure 3 different brains in two states on a tight pathology tech business schedule that day, and Kamon and Laurel both were working furiously while shysters like me were begging for extra colonies. (I reserved 2, got 4 total) I did tell LAUREL thanks for the great videos and stuck around long enough for Kamon’s rendition of “I Like Big Bees (and I cannot lie).” Between Kamon’s bees, my Bee Weaver queens and my Purdue ankle biters, I think I have the best genetics in my area. I’m using green drone frames to increase the drone output for my queen rearing. AND I’m going to Kentucky in January to meet you guys like a crazy bee influencer stalker! Thanks for the great videos and the fantastic interviews!
We all hope to see Natalee grow as a channel, and as a beekeeper/educator. The next generation deserves our universal support :) Thanks for commenting.
I have to say that I'm considering that as a control method on two counts. Thanks to this conversation, I think I have a plan for formic that will cover two challenges in beekeeping. I agree.
Has anybody noticed a difference between buying a queen vs the hive replacing its own. Had 2 hives requeen themselves, 1 just plain left, and had to introduce. The 2 natural queens are crushing the introduced queen.
I have noticed a consistent theme with shipped queens vs. self-made queens. My self-made queens are 100% better, whereas the shipped queens are mostly always superceded with a week or two.
Off the bee topic but on the chicken thing, I've been regularly raising broilers to 9~11 pounds on a mix of weeds from the garden and layer pellets. Rarely do I lose any for health issues.
2 weeks ago. Fred, Mike Palmer and others are doing a pollen collection and testing Project would like to see you getting in on that action, just to have more participants for better results you have the Apimaye hives with pollen traps that would make it even easier for collection. That would be greatly appreciated and a good video or videos. Think about it.
Kamon is a very good educator much like yourself, and i love watching his videos and will continue to do so. I wish he would not have put a new conference the same as Hive Life in attempts to ruin it. If he really did temporarily bartow money from the Hive Life account for personal use, that may have been a lapse of judgment. If he didnt do it, that will come out to. If he did he around take ownership. If the conference was able to bank more than 50K, donations from viewers were not really appropriate. Wonder about cost to attend the new conference, it it will also be a non profit, and if donations will be collected. There is no doubt he has done alot for beekeeper 😢
Kamon has been instrumental in collecting us all together for fellowship and learning/sharing about beekeeping. He brought me in for my first conference experience and I'm in his debt for that. Regarding his personal life or business dealings, I consider that to be none of my business and I don't feel that he needs to explaing himself... at least not to me. The title of a conference isn't as important to me as who the people are who are presenting it and who will be present. Since people like me have to plan our schedules a year out, if he changed the dates I wouldn't be able to attend so that works for me. They will have to work out their differences through legal channels as any business/corp/LLC/non-profit would have to do. I'm not in a position to comment on that as if it were happening to me, I'd appreciate not having it played out through personal opinions. I'd just let them work it out. If Kamon Reynolds asks me to come to a Conference, or Give a Presentation, I'll happily be there. :) two years ago I asked him if the convention attendies would even want me there? He followed up with "I want you there, and that's what counts". I'm in his debt.
Wish Kamon would have given a more complete answer to your question about the Apimaye hives. It seems to me you were asking for him to give some updates about the experiments he said he was going to run with those hives. Because one can’t really say anything about the overall benefit of keeping in those without performing controlled experiments. (I thought that is what the goal was; maybe I’m misremembering.)
Yes, that's what I was asking for, but I leave it to him to share what he's willing to. Test yard tests and results would be nice :) but he did mention many attributes of the Apimaye hives.
I think that in a test yard running the same hive throughout would increase the data validity. Any variability is bad, unless what he's testing is the efficacy of the Apimaye, which wasn't the focus of his tests.
Hi Jody, he really didn't go into any detail about the tests in that yard. He did celebrate some of the hive configuration positives. I guess we'll be waiting for more on that when Kamon is ready to share more :)
I'm just the opposite. I started with Kamon on FB 5 years ago. I got upset with Kamon when they terminated their FB group, but in actuality it was the best thing that happened as it opened me up to more people like Fred, Mike, Bruce, Randy, Jeff, etc.
What is the Hive Life Schedule? The UA-cam Channel has no content, the Hive Life website is showing only information from the 2023 conference. Did you get tickets? Thanks for sharing.
@FrederickDunn I'm pretty sure he had a video announcing it was the first week in January as well. My guess would be that weekend as well. He just announced it couple weeks ago when he was explaining whatever he said/he said thing happened. So from what I gather kamon scheduled same date which to me seems purposefuly. If it's not, he should explain himself in my opinion.
Great show! Elizabeth and I watched/listened to the whole thing. Thanks for showing off the Dirt Rooster mug. See you soon.
Kamon had the audacity to make fun of my mug! :) you know that I endorse you at every turn! Hugs to Elizabeth! and THANK YOU :)
This interview was such a treat. Two of my FAVs talking together.
Thank you :)
This was a great interview. Both of you are so generous with your knowledge. No hype, click-bait, or nonsense. Thank you both!
Thank you so much :) I hope Kamon reads your comment.

Mr. Reynolds is a class act. I liked what he said about thinning out the colony in early spring & running single deeps. Always learning.
There are a lot of single brood management commerical keepers in my State also. It streamlines the work flow.
Great interview thanks Fred & Kamon. I have learned so much from both of you over the last 2 years. Bee Blessed.
Thank you very much!
Thank you Fred and Kaymon. Great interview! I'll see you at the conference. My bet is it will be bigger and better next year.
Thank you, and I think you may be right.
My two favorite sources of information at the same time. Thanks Kamon and Fred. Your knowledge is keeping me ahead of the game with my yard.
Thank you so much, I'm sure Kamon also appreciates that!
You can't beat a partner with an earnest desire to learn new things. You are a lucky man Kamon! A power couple for sure.

Very nice interview Fred. Thanks for coming on Kamon. Learned more as usual about bees. And now you also Kamon. Keep the good work going gentelmen. TY.

I'm with you on the honey score... a few gallons per hive is more than enough for us here and I don't want to have to boost their production.

Wow, that's terrible.
Learned my lessson. Don't go big box, buy stock from the likes of you and Kaymon going foward.

I love me that formic pro ! I’m going to try that next spring on some for mites and swarming , I had way too many hives swarm

Has anybody noticed a difference between buying a queen vs the hive replacing its own. Had 2 hives requeen themselves, 1 just plain left, and had to introduce. The 2 natural queens are crushing the introduced queen.
Regionally adapted queens and stock often well outperform bees you fly in or bring from other zones.
I have noticed a consistent theme with shipped queens vs. self-made queens. My self-made queens are 100% better, whereas the shipped queens are mostly always superceded with a week or two.
