wow, if this was only six yrs ago, you guys and your organization have had miraculous success. You have obviously been very good at getting the word out and have a ton of followers who donate all the time. Strength in numbers is the way to go when you need donations to do what you do. Very proud of you and I cry when you cry Tawnee and I want to jump into the videos sometimes and just hug all of you for your kindness. It is a good thing that most of your staff that work directly with the horses are young ladies, because it is very true that a large majority of horses prefer women. God bless you for what you do.
We got our Salukis that were strays in Doha and Qatar. Kids were paid to kill them and most people torture them. They're so calm and loving and loyal and super smart. We ended up with 3 more after our old girl died. We love hanging out with them. They need a big yard to run but love lounging around too. They're beautiful.
Wondering if there is a follow-up vid of this little guy? He sure is a sweet little pony. I hope someone took him to love and gave him a good home.

Always a good idea to look for a rescue before buying - there's so many animals waiting for homes
The problem is with dogs and cats, that they're not being spayed and neutered, so there's too many of them. With horses it's they're being bred for profit, but there are not enough takers, or the takers just neglect them, because they bit off more than they could chew!

when the lady reacted to the photos she was really shocked and then i realized she doesn't see the media that we are overwhelmed with every day, with the most horrific cases of animal abuse shown online etc. That is kind of amazing, and it makes it even more impressive that she reached out and even asked about other horses.
I lived in TN for almost 3 years and I was shocked at the stories I heard from locals about dogs, cats etc and how people would get rid of their pets by dumping them off in rural areas to fend for themselves instead of finding any local rescue organizations to take the animal(s). I am from Calif. and wasn't used to not being able to contact no-kill rescues for animals. I found a dog on the side of the road and brought it home to see if I could find a non-kill organization and it's was impossible to find. I ended up contacting the local shelter and they picked her up, I felt so bad, because I knew her fate if someone didn't come forward for her or wanted to adopt her. Thank you for doing what you do it makes a difference.
Unfortunately, there are lots of other states where this is the norm. I lived in Missouri for 15 years and saw it all the damned time.
Even if the animal was euthanized it met a far kinder end than it would likely get in the woods. I've dropped off animals I know were likely put down after their stray hold. Best I could do for them.
Some parts of Ky is even worse. I was a young child in the mid 60’s, my mother and father divorced and she married a man from eastern Ky. The way he dealt with stray kittens would make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and your skin crawl. There was nothing a 7 year old could do except promise I would never do what I witnessed.
I would NEVER take an animal to a "Shelter." They are Nazi Death Camps for animals as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks for being awesome and caring about all animals. I have had friends who were neighbors with the Amish, they don't make very good neighbors, their abuse of animals is just one of the reasons why. I am NOT saying all Amish are that way, but it is definitely a pattern a lot of them follow.

Its incredibly heartbreaking what the amish due to their animals. I know not just amish do things they shouldn't to animals. Thank you kindly for all you do. No animal should be just shot or killed because they can't use them anymore. Its absolutely horrible.

Though the horse was of good weight, it is pure hell for it to walk on it's hooves. I was raised on a small dairy farm; granted it was 80 years ago but taking care of any critter, does take work and a lot of heart. When a older cow's milk dry's up and she doesn't have enough milk to feed the barn cats, she will still stand in line to be milked. My Dad would still milk her, pat her on her rump and say, "thank you Bessie" It is sad but true, today, the farmer will send her to the slaughter house.Did you notice how neat all the barns looked? To let 2 1/2 feel of dung to build up, is a disgrace to farmers. Takes about 1 hour to muck all the stalls but hard work.
The Amish can be really nice but sadly a lot of the time they abuse and treat the animals poorly. Thank god for these programs that help resume these animals.

if I were a vet, I would offer 1 day a week to minimal cost neuter and spays. would solve so many problems

Where I live they offet free to low cost spay or neuter for dogs & cats based on your income. They offer free to low cost vaccinations as well. They post once a month where they well be located because they are mobile. Hardly anyone takes advantage of this service.
most won't offer this, because neuter and spay surgeries are the main source of income for veterinary hospitals. Where I live, veterinarians fought against plans for spay/neuter clinics because they did not want competition.
And where I live they offer a low cost spay and neuter clinic 7 days a week through the humane society. People below the poverty line can have their pets fixed for $60 (neuter) or $100 (spay). They're booked out for weeks. For 1-2 months during the late spring and early summer
Thank you so much for what you're doing - particularly in an area with no services. I know a lot of people won't like this, but I have to defend the Amish a little bit. They are working farmers who, by necessity, have a different relationship with their animals. Farmers typically can't afford to feed an animal that doesn't produce something for the farm. And their tradition is to "take care" of non-producing animals quickly, with as little pain to the animal as they can manage themselves. Frankly, I respect that a lot more than the people who dump an animal beside the side of the road to starve. The Amish are simply doing what has been done for hundreds of years in this country; they didn't change, we did. Hopefully, now that you are there, more and more people will take the wonderful alternative you are providing.

Yes Amish can be absolutely cruel to animals, they have puppy mills and they treat their dogs like trash! They work their animals to death! Those poor skinny horses that pull the buggies on hard roads, NO good for their legs. There is nothing looking like compassion as far as Amish and animals that is for sure!!!!!!!! Glad they did the right thing by this horse.

I'm curious where you live? Around here, the Amish horses are (mostly) all in great health. For the Amish, horses are literally their livelihood, without them they would be unable to travel or to plow their fields and grow food to live on and sell. They cannot afford to "work them to death." Yes, they work their horses hard, but they know when they've had enough.
Nothing to do with where I live, it is the Amish in question here. Seen plenty of videos of animals suffering at the hands of Amish. Did you look at the video clip? I didn't fake the clip, I just responded to it. Try googling Amish Puppy Mills and see what that brings up. Just a contradiction of their beliefs against what actually happens to their animals. They exploit animals for MONEY just like so many others. Not bringing their faith into question or their right to live the way they do, just bringing to light how some of them abuse their animals. Lack of compassion.

I wasn't even talking to you but OK. Absolutely, I do agree with you to a degree. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that all Amish treat their animals fair. Amish are no different than English folks though, there are some awful, horrible people. But there are more good ones than bad in Amish communities and English, at least I like to think that this world hasn't gone completely to crap yet..

What kind of gratitude they show to an animal who worked for them its whole life. They dump it like an old tire or they kill it. Not what I would call nice people.

Sofia Diogo it’s a religious thing. There are some religions who find it cruel to burry the dead instead of burn them because it keeps them from rising to the heavens. It’s how they’re raised, they’re raised without what we consider compassion. To them putting the animal out of misery is their only option because their religion restrains them from doctors and or vets. None the less putting resources needed for the villagers into an animal.

@@lucythehorsegirl2052its good you are trying to see the positive, but this pony has had at least a year of hoof neglect swollen arthritic knees from trotting on pavement, and possibly never having had its teeth cared for.... ya, good for her for finally trying to dump him on someone else before euthanizing him. They should be fined and animals removed if they wont care for them.

When I lived in the country, it was alot of Mennonites and Amish farms. I think it's cool they have a life like they do BUT they are absolutely horrible when it comes to their animals, they neglect them, dump them, shoot them. There was a family about 5 miles north of us every so often you would hear a shot from time to time. It's heart breaking.
Im from europe, from the countryside. It used to be normal for 10 year old boys to throw kittens at the barn to kill them if there were too many. Cows were driven up and down hills and small mountains through a forest to trample the underbush until a road formed in the cold and also to get them to build muscle and stamina so they could be used for plowing later in the spring.
If they broke a bone pulling tree trunks in autumn the animals were just bled out after being forced to get back home. What the Amish are doing is basically what people did until 50 years ago. No, it isn't 150, it's 50 years ago. Those ideas about animal protection are pretty new.
I live right near a corner in the country and I own a farm and the other people also owned a farm but they had this horse it ran with the chickens outside in the tiniest paddock ever with no graze no water no food. So everyday I snuck him food. I got yelled at but it's was worth it. I was over there to get somthing he had borrowed from me and I overheard him talking about how they were gonna shoot that horse. They were going to shoot him for not going fast enough in the fields. Oh I forgot to mention but that horse was so skinny u could see every bone in his body. So one day the day they were gonna shoot him I went over and loaded the horse into my trailer and took him home. I know it sounds bad but he was a 2 year old gelding. So they questioned me and I said nope I didn't see him. He is now living an incredible life with his horsey brother.

THANK YOU... I posted a comment on Gold Shaw Farms channel about how the Amish treat animals, withhold medical care & would rather slaughter them or send them to slaughter. He basically said it wasn't true and I should get my facts straight. He said how great the Amish are.. Whatever.... They run their draft horses until they are ready to drop & off to slaughter they go... The Amish idea of medical care is to rub some liniment on an ailment & if that doesn't work, they have to die.

Tawnee, you are a wonder. You handled that so beautifully. I think the lady has a good heart or she wouldn't have made the effort she did to save Gumbie from death. Religions are interesting but oh, so confusing when it comes to love. My very best to you and all who work with Horse Plus Humane Society. I will send a small contribution. So many people in so many places work now for humane attitudes of people toward animals, and humane actions for animals. Keep up the good work.

I fail to understand why 226 people disliked this video! Tawney is an angel to pick up this unwanted pony. It is important to be careful when turning out ponies or horses to pasture when they have been inside for a while. They can easily develop acute colitis or colic.

@@judybrannen I suppose you are right. I raised and trained Plantation Tennessee Walking Horses for many years. Of course, my horses didn't stand in their stall all of the time. But, any horse person knows, especially in the early spring when the grass is nice and green, not to turn horses who have been inside out for long periods of time.

Honestly it sounds like these people won't change their tune if you ask nicely... It's time for citations. Make them pay fines and go to jail for their behavior. They don't get religious exclusion because nowhere in the Bible does it say to treat your animals this way. Having dominion over something doesn't mean abuse: the exact opposite is true, actually.
I agree but going in with laws, fines etc is only going to make them less likely to call a rescue when they really need an animal picked up. Far better to do what was done in this video: friendly, non judgemental assistance. You're more likely to get them calling you with any unwanted animals once the word spreads that you don't berate them.
Amish don’t have to pay our fines, go to jail, pay income taxes or send the kids to school.
Amish consider all animals the same as farm animals. Considering the way the outside world tolerates factory farming, there's nothing worse on an Amish farm than any other animal agriculture.
Countess Ratzass obviously you weren’t around when the Amish in Lancaster Pa. along with the Pagan Motorcycle Gang were sent to prison for dealing coke and other drugs to the younger Amish.
The Bible says that we are to take care of our beasts! Animals give so much unconditional love and humanity gives back the opposite! It's truly sad.

Many people think animals are property. I live in Northern Indiana and a good chunk of dogs we get here for rescue come from KY and TN, GA & AL. Our programs have been so successful, it's hard to find stray animals now.

The Amish behave horribly towards animals, their puppy mills are barbaric. I would never buy any of their crappy crafts or support them in any way until they change their attitude towards animals.
Well, then you won't be buying anything from them for a very long time. I just want to punch them out cold every time I see videos of them abusing horses.
This is not true, I know some amish, the ones I know take care of their animals and love them, ive visted their farm and saw their 7 horses (2 welsh ponies 3 saddlebreds and 2 Belgians), all correct weight and nothing wrong with their hooves, nothing obviously wrong with the horses, they had some cute healthy kittens that were drinking a bowl of milk, and two Holstein cows, and several angus in a little field, they also had like five dogs, the worst thing I saw was a mildly obese dog. as for their faith, they go to church just like we do. You all are making guesses about Amish, have you ever even SEEN one or are you just taking believing this lady completely. I'm sure there are some crap amish who do that shit but the majority are fair, kind, and honest
Good job on the rescue, also for the interaction with the Amish lady - best way of ensuring they call next time too. Was, however, slightly worried about you just letting him out in a pasture, when he hadn't been out for so long. The risk of him developing acute laminitis, colic, or azoturia seem present.....
Thank you for your comment. As I am sure you know, a horse should move around to graze, as standing in one place to graze can cause laminitis. Ponies and small horses are particularly susceptible to lamintis from standing too long in one place in a pasture. That little horse, with those deformed hoofs, was not going to be moving around that pasture.He was just going to stand in one place and eat all the grass that he could reach. Rescue of animals is great, but rescuers should study to know correct procedures. I watch these videos of dogs who have been abandoned and starved, and the rescuers are giving the dogs full bowls of solid food, on the first day of the rescue. Dogs are vulnerable to a condition called bloat, which is twisted intestines. A dog who has not had food, even for a week, can die from bloat if food is offered in large amounts. They need liquid nourishment and a slow re-introduction to small portions of solid food, or they can suffer and die from bloat. Rescue of animals requires more than just "caring". It's important to know what to do after the rescue.
@@ceceliaclarke8427 you are totally correct; I repeatedly warn foreign dog rescue shelters to STOP feeding those starving dogs like a quart of dog food per meal!! It can RUPTURE a shrunken starved stomach and the dog dies a terrible death. if anyone takes in a starved dog, if its a medium to lg dog, feed it a half can of dog food every 4 hours for 1 day to start; then half can every 3 hours for 3 days to SLOWLY expand the stomach; and after a week, WORM the dog so it gets rid of intestinal worms etc so it can put on the weight it needs.

I have a min horse that’s 20+ that still is very health and can pull a cart. You take care of them from the beginning then they will strive everyday even in their older years. I agree with comment above, there’s no excuse for his condition except for laziness and lack of loving and caring for your horse. Thank you for saving this beautiful boy.

In the opposite manner to most of the comments here, I would like to acknowledge my gratitude to the amish person who sought a better life for the horse. Most people in the United States support factory farming and they eat animals that are not treated well, and those are people of all religions not just the amish. If it is in their community that this is an odd thing to care for animals, I am extremely grateful that she reached out and there's people are there to help the animals. Thank you humane society!
