@15:42 when I hear Neal’s mixes I can tell that he’s an artist first…a musician. His mixes have a special character and musicality that only a true student of the craft would be able to pull off. It’s most evident on Steve Lacy’s latest album…the mixes are amazing because they’re sooooo musical.
It's great to see and hear NHP talking about mixing and music. So nice that this was on person and not with that bad sound quality over net. Maybe I am just being ungrateful here but when you interview engineers that has contributed to the Golden Era of urban music, please ask more relative questions to the behind the console process. He has mixed Ms Jackson and B.O.B. Imagine asking him what microphone he used on recording Outkast on those legendary sesions. How he handles low end and top end frequencies. How he de-esses. What was his vocal chain. Was the artists recording the whole verses or part by part. Etc. You know, all these taboo questions that you can't get no where answers for.
This entire time I’ve been a fan of Tyler THE creator and never took the time to look up who was engineering his music and come to find out it’s this goat Neal Pogue and I fw dude so tuff// JBL / Pro tools / D-Verb / LA-2A gang Have to meet dude one day. Not an option
