Hi! New to hand quilting here, if you start on the edge, do you still make a knot and pop it in? Or do you leave the end of the thread without a knot for trimming the edges later? Thank you!

What kind of thread are you using for the hand quilting?

This was a DMC perle cotton thread. Probably size 8 if I’m remembering right 😄

if you dont go through to the back side of the quilt what holds it

I know when you start and finish you don’t go through the entire 3 layers of the quilt, but what about when you’re doing your hand quilting stitches? Is it meant to show on the other side?

Good question! Yes, your stitches should go through all three layers and show on the back. Quilting is functional just as much (or more!) as it is decorative and your quilting is what keeps the layers together. The stitches going through all three layers is what really makes a quilt a quilt 😁
