Me too.. the 80's rock music ,police in full force... It was kinda like living in andy griffith time but with badass motorcycles.. 70 cents a gallon of gas. now a clogged toilet with 200hp street legal ama superbikes..
Ken, you and your crew are truly the BEST! You are preserving motorcycle history AND having a blast in the process! AND providing an opportunity for the general public to purchase some of these incredible machines! What could be better than that? Mega cheers to you!
Still looks exciting 37 years later. A guy in my grade 12 auto shop class had one back in 1992. Nice to see one still in such amazing condition. Good job on the cleaning, detailing, and tuning.
She's awesome ... My pick of the Honda sports bike litter from that era straight out of Honda race team skunk works custom built strictly for racing street legal kit added and up for sale to the public ...and one that I used to love to ride the most .. the 1990 VFR750R RC30 I love the rawness of it and that single-sided swingarm really highlighted it over other sport bikes and that gear-driven cam was just some serious music 😮❤
I remember when RC30s were going cheap, they were no longer competitive in racing and for most people, in stock form don't make a good road bike, so in the late 90s you could pick on up for less than a new R1. Now look at the price of them! I looked at an 88 model, ex race bike so the body work was mint, the engine had all the kit parts pulled out and put back to standard, I missed out on that one. But in I bought a OW01 in 97 for 12,000 NZD (around 7000 USD) the guy had bought it in 91 to race, but realise he needed the kit parts to make it competitive, so sold it after putting some road miles on it. I made the mistake of selling it, and it was bought and shipped to the U.S.
I said reading my dad's cycle world's from the time I could walk starting in the very early 80s and I finally remembered rolling over these from the time I started grade school- we've got to admit Honda has made very very few bad looking bikes.....EVER. Not all the other companies can say the same! Much love Kaplans and crew
That is awesome! I got to ride one,and ago 11oo road racer, brings back so many awesome memories, god rest J J Parnell for giving me a chance to work on and ride some of these awesome motorcycles!!!
Although I was a Kawasaki guy , when I got my first VFR...I was in love . I had had two 80's models and a cherry BEAUTIFUL 96 . I rode the 2 80's bikes all over the Southwest . But my 96 I rode from Chicago to Key West and from the East Coast to the West Coast ...without a hitch . Our local Honda shop did the usual maintenance and I put a lot of trouble free miles on her . I'm only 5' 7" tall so the VFR fit me perfectly . I absolutely loved that bike . PK
I found a white 88 VFR750 recently, with only 33,000 km (20,000)on the clock, easily as good as this one. They guy had it in his office foyer as an "ornament" he only rode it once a year to get is serviced and to stop the oil seals hardening, it still needed the master cylinders done because of sitting around. The 88/89s got some updates over the 86/87s, like 17 inch wheels F&R, slightly different body work, although they look almost identical to the 86/87, a clock, fuel gauge, thicker forks and bigger valves and carbs.
In 91 I was out looking for my first street bike at17. I test drove one of these with my dad's permission, he had no idea nor me. This bike is not for beginners, it will FLY!! Only one of two bikes I've ever ridden that scared me. I'm 50 for reference, got my first mini bike at8.
I've done 155 on mine back in the day. That was 500rpm INTO the redline. Excellent machine. Kerker white tip or Yoshimura for pipes, stage 2 carb kit and K&N filter, battleax or Metzler me1 tires. Awesome machines.
I have a white VFR750F an 88, only 33,000km (pretty sure the U.S never got the 88/89 updated one), they had thicker forks, bigger valves and carbs, 17inch wheels F&R. They look the same as the 86/87 but the fairing are slightly different and won't actually fit. And its every bit as quick as my FZ750, and my friend 85 GSX-R750. The FZ beats it in roll on's from 100kph (60 mph) but only by a bike length or so, and both easily beat the GSX-R in roll on's.
I've been looking for another one of these exact bikes ever since I fixed up one 8 years ago. wish I would have never sold it, but after replacing almost everything new fairings, chain sprockets, brakes, gas tank and so on and not a bad paint paint job for my first one done. After I was almost finished it and left it at my friend's house for 2 years when I got back with my ex it got left outside through 2 heavy storms and rusted out the cylinder walls and it got knocked down twice, it was in rough shape again so I sold it to a "sporadic" guy who fixed it overnight putting a new honda motor on it sent me a video of it running again then blocked me never saw it again or have found one i could afford since
Very nice bike and what a fun exciting bike to ride! I am in the middle of rebuilding a 1983 vf750f and a 1984 vf500f and after rebuilding them I will restore them to look original and nice like yours! I am also saving up for a vf700f and a vf400f but both are hard to find in my city so I am sure I will be picking them up somewhere outside of Az.
Probably the most beautiful bike I have ever seen. The only thing, i would want to change, if that sexy bike were mine, is putting gold rims on it, with the gold chain on it, of course. Lol
I could immediately spot that it was the RH lower that was painted before you even said anything. It's a different shade of white. Looks like it also suffers from the mirror stem cracking as they all did.
My first street bike was a 1987 VFR 700II, pearl white, loved that bike. If I could find it I’d buy it back. It was in mint condition when I sold it back 2007,probably pretty rough now.
Super nice example of a great looking motorcycle. I bought a new 1986 Honda VFR 750F in 1989 from Bob Lunsford Honda in Houston in this same color scheme. Bob's son raced these back in the day and they had two backup bikes still in the crate that were never raced, so they took them out of the crate and placed them on the show room floor at $3200 each. I fell in love with it at first glance. In fact I thought it was a new design, as I had never seen one up to that point. I road it all over south Texas, and she was geared for a top speed of around 165 mph according to the somewhat inaccurate speedometers of that time. Sometime around 1992 my brother wrecked it, but it wasn't his fault. Some idiot in a car pulled out in front of him from a side road and totaled it. What a shame. I would still have that beautiful bike today if not for that jerkoff in the car. I just went to the same dealership (different name now) last week and bought a new 2023 MV Agusta 1000RR Rush Red Momba to go with my 2018 HD Road Glide Special with 131ci stage 4 engine, and 2018 HD Deluxe with 107ci stage 2. They still have an RC30 on display at the dealership that was there back in 80's. I think they want $100k for it. How times and motorcycles have changed over the years!
@bigd7696 My bike had a custom racing exhaust, a custom cold air intake, re-jetted carbs, stock cams, and was re-geared for top speed. I did all of the work myself. On my speedo I saw an indicated 165mph and it was still pulling like it had another 10mph but that's conjecture. As I said the speedo was not accurate in those days. From 30mph up I out ran every bike in north houston that I came across for a few years including liter bikes and bigger, and that's not conjecture.
I can the right panel was repainted .. got one Just like it in my garage all stock.......under 11k miles all original.. never dropped .. clean title money talks..this bike never won any ama races The 750 did this is a 700.. fred merkel won 750 that year.. this Bike was the tariff beater.. They changed the crank everything else is a VFR 750..that being said THIS honda VFR 700 in this video is OUTSTANDING !! I am so Jelly Kaplan gets these pieces of HISTORY and gets to enjoy them...
@bigd7696 I thought it was before but I guess I'm wrong. I had the Grey/black with red pin stripping. The only 87 Ninja in my state at the time with that color scheme.
In France, the VFR were sold mainly in pearl white and called "Carat". It sounds that Honda wanted to sell it as a "premium" sport touring rather than a sport bike."interceptor" sounds too much Mad Max. It never came with this 3 colours paint. Anyway a beautiful bike.
I had that same bike, mine was the 750 pretty sure that one is to is this bike for sale? How do I get in touch with your crew. I've been following you for years
@bigd7696 Yep did the 0 degree thing... Oddly returning a motorcycle jacket my sister bought me for closeout for xmas, for one size larger. Fun. Like 3-5 layers of clothing everywhere. In the winter you time your trips for the warmest days at the warmest time of the day. I hope this mext winter will be mild because I dont feel like all that...again
Love the looks of these they ooze quality in build . However i just can not stand the sound of these V4 s they sound like a lawnmower on steroids ,the later V4s sounded much better but not as nice as the rasp of a across the frame straight 4 or 6 .
I was 16 years old in 86 👍 I remember those interceptors . That’s going back in the day Sir 😃 good stuff
Same here! Seeing sport bikes back then were like witnessing futuristic spacecraft.
1986 war ich 16 Jahre alt!
Die 86er vfr 750 rc24 in Perlweiß war ein Traummotorrad! Jesus kommt bald wieder!Psalm23.Psalm91
I was 16 in 86 too and I had one of these bikes here in New Zealand. Bought 2nd hand about 3 years old I got 155mph out of it. Ah the memories ❤️
Ditto
TAKE ME BACK TO THE 80'S AND LEAVE ME THERE
Me too.. the 80's rock music ,police in full force... It was kinda like living in andy griffith time but with badass motorcycles.. 70 cents a gallon of gas. now a clogged toilet with 200hp street legal ama superbikes..
Nice bike Honda had awesome color design in the late 80s early to mid 90s I think the color blue they used really made them stand out
Ken, you and your crew are truly the BEST! You are preserving motorcycle history AND having a blast in the process! AND providing an opportunity for the general public to purchase some of these incredible machines! What could be better than that? Mega cheers to you!
Always liked the interceptor
Work of art. May be the most beautiful bike from the 80's. Honda sure has good designers.
My dad owned this very bike, and I had the '86 500cc. Great machines.
Still looks exciting 37 years later. A guy in my grade 12 auto shop class had one back in 1992. Nice to see one still in such amazing condition. Good job on the cleaning, detailing, and tuning.
1983 CB1100F. 1986 CB 700 Nighthawk. CX500. Many beauties from the 80's
I owned one of these. It was my first performance motorcycle after my first KZ 440. I love this bike, the sound was amazing.
She's awesome ... One of my dream bikes. Had one I got for free but was rusted tight. Had an 85 VF700R but not even close to being the same machine.
I said reading my dad's cycle world's from the time I could walk starting in the very early 80s and I finally remembered rolling over these from the time I started grade school- we've got to admit Honda has made very very few bad looking bikes.....EVER. I had one exactly like that I wish I would have kept it they still look awesome

One of my favorite (modern) old school sport bikes. Love it!
Had the 750 version in Canada. Put a Yosh 4 into one and it sounds like a v8. This one has an aftermarket windshield.
My buddy had one of those as well, as his first bike no less! Was an impressive unit.

I hope I can get one of these 80s//90s Hondas someday.
I was 5 years old on that time. For some reason, 80-90 are my best bike era
Same as the one I had 32 years ago. Great bike Cheers from New Zealand
Those bikes are bulletproof. Yes, best looking bike from the 80’s. I wish I still had mine.
Great bikes...still looks up to date today.
That is a gorgeous bike. That red white and blue color scheme is beautiful
There will be no more CR500 in the world when this man is done
Holy Crap that's freaking sweet! So clean, that baby is mint 👊
In 91 I was out looking for my first street bike at17. I test drove one of these with my dad's permission, he had no idea nor me. This bike is not for beginners, it will FLY!! Only one of two bikes I've ever ridden that scared me. I'm 50 for reference, got my first mini bike at8.

Man I bet that thing sounds amazing with a straight pipe
I've owned Three Honda Interceptors in the 1990's. Great bikes.
Love the V4 sound.
always loved the interceptor

I also swapped out the black fork legs for red forks!
Probably the most beautiful bike I have ever seen. The only thing, i would want to change, if that sexy bike were mine, is putting gold rims on it, with the gold chain on it, of course. Lol
Exactly!!!
Beautiful. 87 hp 11.32 quarter mile top speed 149 mph they were runners for sure

Had an '86. Yoshimura single-side exhaust and cams. Still got video of riding 5th gear wheelies. Most have no idea how good the V4 sounds unmuffled.

Yup, my first bike was a Honda Interceptor 750!
WOW INCREDIBLE I LOVE IT

Ahead of its time and looked nicer than the 86 Ninja 750.
How was it ahead of its time?
@bigd7696 I thought it was before but I guess I'm wrong. I had the Grey/black with red pin stripping. The only 87 Ninja in my state at the time with that color scheme.
Red, white and blue baby!
I have VF1000. What a great era for Honda.
THIS made my day bro Sr.
As much as we say it on every video, this interceptor should stay in the museum.
Agreed!
I had one, loved it!
That is a museum quality piece that's when Japan built the best bikes in the world imo.
Bike los 80!!!!!!puuuuffff!!!!!🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾👌👌👌👌👌
Haven't rode in 40 yrs, this could tempt me. Gold chain Ken?
How much did the VRF bring, Im looking for one just like it
I owned a early 80 s bike similar 2 this had a factory turbo fast bike
A LEGEND!!!
Is this the interceptor you guys got from the guy down in Florida?
In France, the VFR were sold mainly in pearl white and called "Carat". It sounds that Honda wanted to sell it as a "premium" sport touring rather than a sport bike."interceptor" sounds too much Mad Max.
It never came with this 3 colours paint. Anyway a beautiful bike.
Sick bike, needs gold wheels.❤
Was thinking same & a gold chain to match..
Sziasztok van nekem is egy gyönyörű szép honda vfr 750 esem 1986 évjárat a világon a legjob motorbicikli enel jób motor nincsen a foldon
Double cam chain right?
is the work order cost added on after the winning bid price ? thx...........she's a real nice one ! wb
I don’t think so…it’s more of a proof of service to the bike, definitely adds to the value knowing Kaplan cycle massaged it to perfection
She's a looker for sure.
I had that same bike, mine was the 750 pretty sure that one is to is this bike for sale? How do I get in touch with your crew. I've been following you for years
Sick bike
Sweet !!!!
Nice vfr ❤
Just Awesome!!!!!!
Love it!!!
I'm curious why they made a VFR700 AND a VFR750 in the same year?
How mutch Cost the vfr?
How much did it go for?
the original exhaust that you said was aluminum is in fact steel.
I had this Honda 750VFR and sold it for a holiday in Fiji. The kid who bought it killed himself a few months later. I should have kept it.
Flying Freddy spencer
I think you mean "Flying Fred Merkel". Freddie's moniker was "Fast Freddie Spencer."
I have the brochure. 😄
Wow 🤩
Badass!

I hate 99% of crotch-rockets, but like this one.
I wouldn't what a rocket in my crotch either, sounds painful. 😆😆
Magnesium coated,captain kaplin
Might of been the year i graduated HS
I like that ALOT
This is more like it
I want it
From an era when the U.S market had the monopoly on silly names for bikes!🤣🤣🤣
😻😻😻
Hi,👌💪🏻🙏
I wouldn’t say it’s as timeless as my 83 interceptor or vf1000r but I like it
❣️
🏴☠️🏁
I'd drive it, but I wouldn't know where to put my groceries.
@bigd7696 Yep did the 0 degree thing... Oddly returning a motorcycle jacket my sister bought me for closeout for xmas, for one size larger. Fun. Like 3-5 layers of clothing everywhere.

this bike is known as the red white and blue import bike, actually 749 cc, not 750,
As is probably every machine Honda built, they’re always a CC or so below what they advertise.
if it was not tuned by moto guru , it probably runs ok. but not a moto guru tune.
The vid doesn't do justice to how beautiful this bike sounds. Only the Ducati Sedici sounds better.
Y’all got enuff dimes you ought to make a dollar or 2…😉
Love the looks of these they ooze quality in build . However i just can not stand the sound of these V4 s they sound like a lawnmower on steroids ,the later V4s sounded much better but not as nice as the rasp of a across the frame straight 4 or 6 .
